I'm missing something...

I'm enjoying the humour in this mod and when I saw 'Copyleft, all lefts reserved' I laughed, well almost literally MAO.
Spoiler
It's from the book found in steel realm.

I do. I've put some models into the mod already that will be a part of it. Also in the latest release you can join the Frat as a pledge.

Ah http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyleft, forgot I did that. Been working on this mod for over 3 years.

I just learned that the midas oscurogems addon no longer works, and I can no longer get it to work again.

WHY?!

Why did you have to go and f**k around with the assimulator script?!?!?! It was working just fine before, why did you have go and break it?! Now the Oscruogems addon does NOT work and I cannot get it to work again, even if I copy the contents over the aux2 script.

Dude, find your center. Not sure what's broken or why but pass me the script and I'll take a look at it.

Edit: did it work in 0.991? If not, when did it break? I've noticed you've published Modular Midas as of Sept. so I'd guess it did work with 0.991 but I want to make sure.

Heheh, call me a traditionalist, but I've always been of the opinion that the guy who makes the mod can f*** around with it any way he wants... :biglaugh:

Xilver, took me a little while to get my head round what you were saying, but I think we misunderstood each other. I'm not talking about an animated mesh emitter that will emit a trail of particles (like the ones you can see in the Shivering Isles wilderness), but rather static particles like are described http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Particle_system#Snowflakes_versus_hair.

In any case, I assume you can't fix me up with the necessary setup to get one working, so no worries. :)

I wasn't sure which one you were talking about, but that's why I mentioned the NiMeshParticleSystem. The NiParticleSystem to my knowlege only allows for the emission of simple particles (billboarded rectangles) but the MeshParticlesystem is amazing in it's particle complexity. I plan to experiment further with the transforms that can be used here (specifically the GeomMorphs of complex objects) but I know you can create, scale and rotate meshes to create "hair" with this system. Almost every spell in the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yymBkioFY3A video uses this system. The Mass Entangle spell is a good example of what's possible. Another option is to texture flip images of "hair" but I think texture flipping on particles isn't possible on the NiParticleSystem (it is on the MeshParticleSystem).

ok, so i did the whole astral plane crystal quest where you get the holy judgment spell or whatever it is (awsome btw) but i cant figure out how to get to any of the other places i hear about like the world of Necromancy or mechanical astral plane. i got the portal in the basemant workin but that just takes me to the astral plane where i would be when i do the quest to get the holy judment spell, is there a book to read somwhere that gives me hints as how to change the destination of the portal or somthing?

Noticed that 'Crossworlds' puzzle at the desk in basemant? Solve it and the solutions are passcodes to astral realms. I still haven't figured all, but some are pretty easy.

Look for a crossword puzzle on the desk in the room area you walk through to get to the basemant portal.

Hmm, I should probably take a look at what can be done with that then. Texture flipping didn't appear to be possible in the NiParticleSystem, no: I spent quite a bit of time trying to get that to work without success. If it could be made to work on the NiMeshParticleSystem then that could be pretty funky: there were a couple of effects I was unable to create that required it. My actual modelling skills are non-existant, but maybe I can do some funky stuff this way. Thanks for the pointers!

Hm, the script assimilator script didn't change between those two versions. Perhaps it's a load order issue since Midas magic is now newer than your add on?

Good to be back. I haven't done anything too spectacular in the latest release but wanted to get back in the swing of things.

Glad to help. I have done the texture flipping on NiMeshParticlSystems only once or twice. On the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLdwMGZZmgc it's probably most evident. Although the spell has been tweaked here since this vid you can see the textures flipping from fire to smoke on the particles. Here all the particles are tuned to one flip controller. In the Shock spells in the 0.990 video, each particle has it's own flip controller.

Hmm, have you considered taking a little time to write stuff on the CSWiki? I am planning to write some stuff on there as my VASE stuff went way beyond the information on particle systems available there, but I am guessing you'd be able to give a lot more/other information as well. I am sure I'm not the only person with an interest in particle systems and wikis have the advantage that anyone who's interested can learn from them. Unfortunately, also pretty boring to write compared to actually making stuff, though (hence why I haven't got around to it yet myself).

I have. But my time is limited and modding is really where I enjoy spending it. Documentation seems like such work. But I'm happy to share ideas here. You've piqued my interested on the "hair" issue. I've posted a crude test using a NiMeshParticleSystem and FlipControllers. Here's a quick http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pZCd1hKe_w of it.

That looks beautiful.:)
Are you going to implement it as a spell as well?
Even if it is only something for the eyecandy, like an upgraded 'sparks'^^

I've already got a working "wisp" based on it and have received requests anywhere from updated tyrael wings to the flying spaghetti monster so it's got plenty of uses. I think the technique is going to be useful.

I am liable to use/adapt it as well, assuming I can wrap my head around it easily enough. Particle systems are... fun.

Cool. Alot like the standard particle system with just a few extras. Look at the weather nifs like sky\rainlight.nif I stumbled across it because rain didn't seem to follow the standard oblivion "face camera" billboarded particles and I wanted to know why.

Everybody! Today a small miracle has occurred. I just saw the fish.
That fish that Xilver put in the astral plane's astral mists area suddenly showed up. Kinda cool, except that I was just about to enter the astral temple, not leave. Not a huge problem, I stumbled upon the exit in a backwards way.
Once again, best magic mod I have. LAME is freaking awesome, yes, but Midas has a hell of a lot more neat spells(I'm thinking of making a pure pyromancer character sooner or later, just to see how many things he can take on).

Oh, the other spells are in the books of the realms. Feel free to use the Midas Cheat to get them or TCL in Midas' bedroom (the books are behind the wall). I'll look at the spell costs for Earth2Mud. I appreciate the report of Force Charge. I can limit the duration of the "push check" to see if it improves.

Glad to be of help!

Tested the 3 other spells now. The only problem I can see with any of them is the Starfall spell targets corpses aswell as living NPCs, though I presume you knew that. Not big, doesn't bother me, just hogs the FPS abit. The spells are nicely balanced aswell.

Wow, nice stuff! That particle emitter looks fantastic, make it a bit more jaggedy and you have a ball of lightning! Midas Magic undoubtedly deserves its place as the most endorsed mod on the Nexus! :)
