[Beta] Midas Magic - Spells of Aurum Thread #27

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:03 pm

Xilver, HyperGames2K8 are currently making a conversion mod for Oblivion, featuring the Might and Magic series.
BUT, we have a small problem; spells...

So I was wondering if you would like to make a few spells for us?

I'd be happy to lend my services but I won't be able to until Midas is complete (and It has been a 3 year project). One alternative is to make your TC a dependency mod of Midas Magic. Many of the ole M&M spells have counterparts in Midas already. I know it's not perfect but it's a start for sure.

Here's a preview of the next version of Midas Magic. >>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_qBysDmhQ0<<

Adds 10 new spells featuring the "Midas Destruction's End" Tribute spell. And a new Astral world "Darkness." Plus I fleshed out some of the Frat quest.

Destruction's End? astral World "Darkness"? Sounds AMAZING.

First, I must tell you how words don't even describe how cool this mod is.

But, I have a question: Does the Broke Back Mining Co. exist? If so, where can it be found? Because the little flyer for it doesn't really tell that much.

The flyer adds a map marker for the place. It's near Camp Ales. Kinda.
Oh, and there are a couple MMM spawns in the area, so watch out for that.

Amazing.
Your trailers keep getting better and better!

Such beauty and power in this one.

I'm confused though,
these magic missiles and time stop are kind of what is being done in Fearsome Magicka, right?
what about that?:)

The light ball is superb...

Sorry, I have another question. I got to the Broke Back Mining Co. camp, and I bought a certificate, but I can't seem to 'procurify' any gold nuggets. I've talked to every NPC, the vendor doesn't sell any gold, and I've tried activating the gold in the mine. All help is appreciated.

You buy the certificate, and then you wait for Them to mine the gold. Each one bought increases the chance that they'll get nuggets, but you have to wait for them to get them. I think they get them once per cell respawn(default 3 days), but it might be faster then that, so I don't know.
Trust me, once you reach about level twenty(and if you're running MMM), Gold Golems become the major source of nuggets. I found a dungeon filled with summoners, and I exited shortly after going in, because I had overburdened myself with gold and gear. I had 125 nuggets in my back pocket, which suffice to say was more then I needed.

I'm not being defensive here just making sure the facts are straight. I have a great deal of respect for what Bruce is working on and I hope his mod is vastly successful. These spells have been on my list for a while and I wanted to get them out before I was accused of stealing Bruce's code. If I'm ripping of anyone it's http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3892 (both are spells from that). But, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umUwRPfdKok has been a spell in Midas since 2007. Here I've just updated the graphics with a new nested particle effect I discovered (read earlier in this thread).

I do think Fearsome Magicka is going to be great and I encourage folks to go download it once it's available. For one, the spells can and are used by NPCs and It looks like he's using OBSE which will make the effects like time stop work more effectively (for instance, my stasis field spell can't stop magic spells).

What's the problem in both mods doing the same thing anyway??

Just gives more variety, and besides, they both look uber cool.

Aw, wonderful!
Thanks for the new release and clarifying on the spells.
Of course, PJ's stuff was groundbreaking in spell features, it would be daft not to look at what was done.
Nor am I accusing you of stealing anything, I just thought I liked to know your position.

The Dark Nebula is the shimmering light/darkness effect, right?
It's stunningly amazing.:)

No offense taken. I can understand. I did debate what to do for those 2 spells for a while but honestly, the new particle techniques were to enticing not to do something with. Actually both effects were inspired by Final fantasy. I've been wanting to emulate the missile effect seen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmrcnAzTZQw for a while. The Dark Nebula, that is the "pink/purple/black" cloud in the vid. It hides the player and silences enemy mages :goodjob: . The effect I found quite by accident. I was toying with different alpha modes and ran across this effect so I created a spell for it.

hi xilver,
great job again, i haven't played oblivion in ages but when i saw new video on youtube i just had to install it and try it out :D
just one question, i see you are using new tehiques to make new spells, and they are getting better and better, do you maybe have in plan to use those techniques to remake some old spells?
not that they don't look good, but you know, it would be fun to see some cool new animations :D

I actually updated 3 old spells in the latest update. Magic Missiles, Prismatic Missiles and Column of Fire. (1&3 are in the video) I do have plans as time permits to update some of the older, uglier ones. Right now I'm working on some necromantic spells for the next release.

Edit: Looking for Suggestions
1) Which older spells really need updating?
2) Any Necromancy spells you'd like to see (Please look at the list of existing spells before posting)?

Also, keep in mind Darkness & Necromancy are now 2 different disciplines (worlds) in Midas Magic.
