[Beta] Midas Magic - Spells of Aurum Thread #26

Post » Sun Nov 08, 2009 9:06 pm

Love the magic plugin, but when I play the games on items such as gold coins, rubies, things you need to make the spell and some armors I get missing mesh message. I opened the BSA browser that came with the file, and extracted all to oblivion data folder, and checked it off with mod manager. At the same time I am running OOO, shivering islands, a couple unofficial paths by quarn and kivan, and a mount and few race mods. Not really good with this stuff so can't fully understand the faq, and I use oblivion mod manager if that is needed and obse loader. Is this fixable?

Mike.

The mark and recall spell lets you place a marker and return to it later. For example, before entering a dungeon, you cast Astral Mark. After you go exploring and pick up loot until you can hardly move, you cast it again. Then you can jump straight back to outside the dungeon, dump loot and jump back to where you were before. Pretty handy.

I meant is it worth it to get through the gates ;)

Anyway, isn't that what the chest is for?

Good mod, really... Good for fun. In fact propably the best of them all fun mods...

Too bad it takes away all RP, atmosphere and seriosity from the game, I expected something more serious that throwing around granades, nukes and constructing flamethrower walkers in meantime....

Well, again, it is a great mod, but not for TES lore & RP fans I would say.

You have yet to cast holy judgment or stone storm, it seems.

Some of them are good indeed and I feel no shame telling, that I used "setstage" to try them all out, problem is that the quests, planes, angels, melon creatures, robots and 95% of the mod overall isn't fitting into RP and TES world even a bit... More of the spells would fit into Forgotten realms, and that's where idea for many came from, no doubt.

All I say, great mod, really, but not when you take RP seriously as I do.

EDIT: And well, some of the spells still ruin the gameplay, making it all too easy, that's why I called it "fun" mod. All the knockbacks, paralisis, knockdown... The conjured weapons making you close to inviciblity as is humanly possible without cheating... I'm nnot trying to say it's bad mod, someone spend a lot of work on it, and it can be seen, it is still great for occassional amusemant.

I get what you're saying. But to be fair, many of those spells seem to originate from planes outside of Oblivion and Nirn.

Don't bring the melon atronach into this, though.

Allright, then the cheese atronach hehe. Well most of the spells are comming from Forgotten Realms (BG, ICW, D&D, Neverwinter...) and that world works ... Is very different from TES I would say... So most of the spells, even those "RP" fitting aren't fitting into TES... And the system of gaining them... I don't know, I'm just way too old-fashioned, I can't take real-world jokes and unlogical things, which aren't fitting into the world in games like TES, Fallout, or any of the mentioner Forgotten realms.... That's just me, and my " Ain't RPing for others, I'm RPing for myself"..

It IS great mod, I'm really not saying otherwise, I had few hours of fun with it, and now it's time to deactivate and load the pre- save. Anytime I play mod which makes it too easy, or too funny, the game starts to get boring to me... And well, I play it for LONG time, and I still continue and love it, but gotta stay clear of some mods, even tho the magic of Oblivion isn't alway really cool...

Hope you know what I mean - I don't want to sound like and old goat blabling about quality of youngsters these days or something of that sort :D

It is different from the TES system which is why it's one of my favorite mods to date. While TES magic has it's own usefulness, eventually it gets a little too drab for my tastes. If I'm playing a geomancer, I'd like to feel like I'm wielding earth and nature against my foes. A necromancer can use the more profane spells Midas adds and literally absorb the body and soul of his enemies. A mystic-type character can use most of the force-based spells with great effect.

While finding the reagents for some of these spells can be difficult, part of the reason why it seems to make the game easier is because the spells are still relatively cheap and the stock enemies can't cast these spells. The spell cost should be balanced to make them costly to use constantly so you will need to rely on your regular spells, and make many of these spells accessible to the regular list of foes. Imagine having to fight an ancient vampire patriarch who is blasting you with lightning while a vortex of stones swirls around him.

Well, giving those spells to NPCs would be deadly, you would be knocked down, paralyzed, flying, frozen.... All the time. Well leaving the RP, my character is level 44 currently, and most of the spells I can get are totally useless to me as it is. I would love to get a few of them to spice up my game, but that would take me an age to complete, an age I don't really want to spend... Guess there's no real way to add just about 5-10 of them, fastly, and continue on my "journey", eh?

And yeah, Oblivion-base magic can get boring in time... Simple animation, not very surprising effects, and the only really enjoyable spell is paralisation ... You can get all 7 schools to 100, without getting any feeling of being "Great mage" - Can get a bit frustrating, yeah. You start the game with flare, and you end it with flare, just doing twenty times more damage haha.

[...]Guess there's no real way to add just about 5-10 of them, fastly[...]

There is. All you need is the position of MidasSpells.esp in your loadorder and the FormID of the spell you want to add.
E.g. for Midas Meteor Storm in my Loadorder:
FormID = xx01E88D (use TES4Edit)
Position in my LO = 1F (easily done with Wryebash)

Ingame I open up the console type in player.addspell 1F01E88D and there it is :)

Another method (something in-between doing all quests and just adding the spell per console):
Looking up the needed ingredients for a certain spell in TES4Edit

Open up the Book branch, click on any of the entries (preferably on an entry which sounds like it has sth. to do with the spell you want),
double click "DESC - Description" in the right window, a window pops up, read through it, write anything interesting down, start oblivion and gather all the stuff you need.

About the prisms:
Spoiler
I still can't find 2 of them. I went to the Claw and got one there, I went to the Temple (which is in the Mist) and I went to the Spire. Was the Will-o-Wisp just past the portal supposed to do anything? I think it used astral combat on me and dissapeared...

Also, how do you get RefinedFrostsalts? I tried using the assimilater but my Frostsalts just dissapeared.
Nvm, looked it up on UESP.

Sorry for all the questions, this is a really big mod...

Great mod (finally fully tested) but should be recommended only for Mage characters. In my opinion some parts (crossworld/spells) should be more develloped/balanced.
Levitation (Astrall mark/recall) is something overpowered and should cost more magicka to be cast and souldn't be as easy to get with only some gems.

Just quick question, does the chest from Midas Chest spell have a limit to the number of things on it? I was looting a fort and kept adding my loot in the chest so i don't get encumbered, but i started to notice that some stuff i was adding wasn't going, i would put the items normally from my side of the exchange, but they don't appear on the other side, i tried casting the spell again, but no luck.

Some things randomly disappear when the container is holding too much.

That can happen with any container, sometimes even with your inventory if you overload it. Usually if you use "take all" from the container you will find the "missing" items in your inventory.

I made the wings of the archangel into an amulet that I can wear, but I also want to make one that uses the tail slot, but when I try them ingame, the "amulet" wings show up, but the wings for the tail don't. Do the wings only work in the amulet slot or something?

***SPOILERS**** ****SPOILERS***

ANyone could help a little?

Im stuck at the ayleid afterworld. (I can still leave)
I just got the seal scroll from altar from unholy chapel, and quest log says that the gates are unlocked, but they arent. I wandered around for 2 hours finding stuff.
Help would be highly appreciated.

Did you get both seal scrolls? There should be another one in a lake surrounded on all sides by cliff walls. Just be careful when you approach the podium...

Hi ya
Love the mod, but I am totally hopeless at solving problems? I have spent literally months trying to work out how all this astral plain stuff works?

I can make spells no problem I just follow the instructions in the various books. But the Astral stuff. No Idea?? I have even got to the little Island using your wonderful wings spell and got to the door using the unlock spell listed here in this forum but after that?
Please can you give an old fellow a few hints? I would love to play your mod a bit more but I just sit here with no clue about what to do? To tell the truth I uninstalled it for over a year as I saw no way through the problem , I thought a month or so ago I would try again but I still can't make head nor tail of it all? I guess I'm just thick? I never have been able to problem solve, even as a small boy at school. I could put a roof on a house no problem before I retired but give me a cross word, just little box's in the paper?
Still just want to say I love your companions, (The two I've got Zo? and Karen) and your spells are great, but every thing else is so beyond me I will probably give in again very soon. I have also spent a lot of time looking for clues on the internet. Unfortunately my computer won't play any of the videos as apparently I have a 64 bit system, (Whoosh, straight over my head) so my son tells me, and the videos will only play on a 32 bit system so I don't know if there are any clues there but I can't get to them any way.

Still I hope alls well in your world, mines a dashed confused.

Very best Regards
Lil Hagrid
