Me and a few employees at the gamestop I go to are lobbying heavily for a Brink midnight release. Is anyone else doing the same or already know they are going to one?

the gamestop that i work at is pushing Brink heavily we are having a Midnight release and a little pizza party to begin he night sadly not enough people know about the game but every customer we tell about it come back in after checking it out and preorder it we are pushing over 200 at the moment

I went with Steam, so theoretically you pre-load the game two or three days before the release, but it sits encrypted on your hard drive.

Then at release they send out the magical signal that begins the decryption, after half an hour you're good to go.

BUT

I've done this before and had less than satisfactory results. Sometimes they get swamped or there is a glitch and the game doesn't decrypt within the first day or so of release.

I got burned staying up to midnight in this manner on L4D2 and BF:BC2. Don't know what the problem was with L4D2 but with BC2 I'm pretty sure it was EA dragging their heels on a fix (since EA was also selling copies on their crappy proprietary digital distribution service).

So, if you're going Steam, give yourself a good night's sleep and get an early start in the morning rather than staying up waiting for it to decrypt.

I guess thats why console gaming took me away from the PC. . .I was a big console gamer for many years until the simple fact of convenience and 1080p TV made me buy a PS3.

svcks for me, I get high school right in the morning. Earilest I can play is 3PM.
On the bright side, the load on the server should have died down by then.

I recently pre-ordered Portal 2 and experieced first-hand and how pain-stakingly slow Steam's decrypting process is..

Definitely, there are some issues. Hopefully they are learning from it.

I don't want to sell the service short, I think it has a lot to offer, but just don't get burned on staying up late unnecessarily for a midnight release.

Amazing. I look at people that rent blockbuster movies and buy games at walmart as ancients of another era. I can understand if you have slow internet but for those of us with 2+mbit connections. Steam is the best way to get your games. Most games preload anyway so you could be at home eating captain crunch but no. Reading reddit. But no. You like to wait in lines. Someone has to I guess.

...shhh I am not sober.

Show me how to buy games for my 360 on Steam and I'll join you in the modern era.

And show me how to download even half of my PS3 game collection onto my 60GB PS3 within the space of a month when I have a monthly data cap of 30GB and I'll join you too.

Stupid New Zealand broadband data caps...

If there is a midnight release I shall get there and grab me copy and get a jump on things. Sure I have work in the morning but I think that they would understand that Brink is worth a non-productive work day.

Sadly Best buy isn't doing a midnight release...But it's for the best...

You'll need a head start!

I will be very surprised if there is a very big line. Also I'm getting it for 360, so I sort of have to go somewhere.

This past Monday the 18th, when I went to the midnight release for SOCOM 4, Mortal Kombat, & Portal 2, there were prolly 100 people there and out of everyone I talked to only a select few even knew about BRINK. When the trailers for BRINK would come up on the T.V. people would be like "Wha...What? What's THAT game?" I literally wanted to go up n down the line and just face palm people. :slap:

I didnt even know about it until about a week or so ago when someone mentioned it on the crap of a game homefronts forum.

And its gamestop for me its literally 300ft from my front door.
