UK Midnight Release?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 3:24 pm

Ok, so for once I have the opportunity to go to a midnight release for a game so I thought, "Fallout should be the object of my desires for my first midnight release!!" The only problem is that I don't know of any stores doing one. Anyone know if the GAME stores across the United Kingdom will be swinging open their doors at midnight to receive the might of British Fallout fans?

Sorry, I can't find anything. It might be worth calling your local shop, as things like this tend to only happen in major cities/stores (if you live in London you're far more likely to get the chance to go to a midnight release), and they'll have the info.

I know Gamestop (former EBgames) here in Roskilde Denmark, had plans for a midnight launch. But there just wasn't enough interest from customers to justify it.
I think it depends on local interest.

Yeah... I live in a pretty average size town in Cheshire and my local GAME always has midnight releases for Call of Duty games and Halo games along with other big franchises as well. But I remember them having a midnight launch for Fallout 3 and they had adverts plastered over the store's windows, but they have nothing about New Vegas in store yet apart from 1 poster saying you can pre-order the special edition for a £10 deposit and another poster saying you get the Classic Pack if you pre-order. Nothing about a midnight launch yet.

My local Edinburgh branch is doing a midnight launch. I went and asked the girls who work there if they were planning one and they sort of hummed and hawed for 5 minutes and said 'we'll take your number and if we decide to do one i'll text you'. So we talked about it a bit more and I convinced them if they were doing a Fable launch they should do a Fallout one too. :D

It might be worth chatting to them and trying to steer them in that direction. Depends how committed the staff are - probably helps if you're in your local Game as much as I am :D

So t-3.35 days. :D

Right. I'll go into my store tomorrow and see what they say about it. When I called they said they didn't know but I might be able to convince them...

Make some cupcakes and call them 'mirelurk cakes' as incentive. That's what I intend to do on Thursday at the launch. :D

Gstaff says unlock is 12:01 GMT, which is 01:01 BST, or 02:01 CEST.

The Steam count down clock is annoying, it only updates hourly, it is currently showing 3 days and 4 hours for me, and will continue to show this between 21:00 and 21:59, as soon as it ticks over to 22:00 it will update to 3 days and 3 hours.

Totally dependent on your area...for Me I might go to a Gamestation midnight release but I'll be in town and ready to get it on Friday anyway it's a lot of effort for a few hours extra gameplay

I think this as well. In my experience GAME usually do one, as do the big Tesco stores for the really big titles. I think FONV comes in that category.

I had the 22nd booked off work ready for the big day, but I won't be able to play until the 29th now(busy week ahead). So I'll probably pick up my copy sometime over the next week or so. What do you recommend - Collectors Edition (£70), or pre-book at HMV for the regular edition and get a free NCR t-shirt? :)

I doubt my local Gamestation where I have the CE pre-ordered will be doing a midnight launch, it's just too small. But then I'm happy to wait until my usual Friday lunchtime when I meet friends for a couple of pints in their lunch hour, I'll just get my copy on the way there and read All Roads whilst waiting on them :)

I'm in scotland myself too, so did you order it from Games, or Gamestation? or steam? I'm unsure about per-ordering from the store. But if it was the same with Gear of wars, it should release at the midnight on the 21 before 22nd.
But if it's on steam...it's random. It's set for 22nd 2am now. But for steam....thing change at anytime

Its British Summer Time, I think - the clocks don't go back 1 hour until 31st October, so the NV release falls in the BST period. I think that's right

British Summer Time :) We don't revert to GMT until Saturday 30th/Sunday 31st. So yes unfortunately by Gstaff's info you'll have to wait until 01:01 :(

Edit: I was changing the clocks a week early lol

I preordered with Game and am picking it up at midnight from them. Bah...

Although I suppose by the time I get home and install I shouldn't have to wait long...
