Midwestern Brothers

-An RP concept from Lt. Andronicus

CO-GM- LoneRanger

The Barnaky Ending:

So for those of you unaware of the Barnaky ending to Tactics, I would highly suggest watching this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac86cyo7Ef8

The RP builds off of that canon ending.

Premise and Setting:

The year is now 2291. Ten years following the events of New Vegas. The Midwestern Brotherhood has now expanded to much of the Midwest and beyond, and has become a true power comparable only to nations like the NCR and the Legion. Armed with advanced power armor and wielding the robotic armies of the calculator, the Midwest is a military powerhouse and its influence is felt throughout the central U.S. region.

General Barnaky, after fusing with the Calculator has now become Emperor and is revered in the Midwest as a type of quasi God-King. His power is absolute, and through his most trusted servants, such as his High-Inquisitor William Traven, he rules with absolute assurance.

The Mutant Liberation Army however, has remained the sole thorn in the Midwest’s side, constantly fighting a guerrilla war against their Midwestern oppressors: who have so cruelly enslaved and exterminated them since the victory over the Calculator.

By 2291, the MLA had been pushed back west, towards the unoccupied lands of the Northwest. On the brink of victory, the Midwest allowed itself celebration in what was almost assuredly going to be a complete and total success for their armed forces. A final end to the mutant menace.

Tragedy struck first however. As an unknown and devastating viral contagion spread across the lands of the Midwest and beyond, infecting many of its populace and causing rampant destruction. The virus’s effect was potent, turning those infected by it into crazed half-mutants. The Midwest largely believed the MLA to be responsible for the biological attack. Although how the mutants were able to acquire such devastating biological weapons, remains a mystery.

In congruence with the viral spread, or perhaps as a result of it, the Midwest came under attack from the MLA with renewed vigor. As well as separate attacks from Caesar’s Legion, now led by Legate Lanius, and as the “Khan Empire” formed by the exodus of the Khans during the events of New Vegas. Blaming the Midwest for the virus’s partial spread to their own lands, and reigniting previous tension and conflict between the groups, they began attacking the Midwest’s western flank.

Reeling from these simultaneous onslaughts, and with its armies bogged down in western conflicts, the Midwest stands at the precipice. In an attempt to rectify the situation and boost much need morale, High Inquisitor Traven has formed a force of elite Midwestern Paladins, to take the fight directly the Mutant Liberation Army by attempting to find the supposed source of the plague in its territory. In an attempt to end its spread.

You will RP a member of an elite squad of Midwestern Honor-Gaurds, which is part of this force. The personal protectors of Emperor Barnaky himself, and the best of the best. As a squad, the team will make their way to the heart of MLA territory, fighting infected plague victims, Legion soldiers, and anyone else who stands in their path.

Along the way, they will interact with communities and peoples (violently or otherwise), explore ruins, and attempt to find the reason for the biological attack. In the process uncovering a devious plot on a scale they could not have prepared for.

For those familiar with my convention roleplay of the Midwest, the hierarchy will follow along the same lines. For those unfamiliar, here’s a quick run-down of what might be some unknown terminology that could be used in the RP:

Spoiler

Classes

As a member of the squad, you will choose a class. Availability will depend on the class. But here are the choices.

(Note: The Midwest isn’t like the Legion or other such groups. There is no such thing as gender discrimination. Women characters could fill any of the roles listed here as well.)

Inquisitor:

-Inquisitors are the intelligence officers, priests, and judges and interrogators of the Midwest. Hand-picked by Barnaky. Wearing jet black robes and exuding a fearful presence, they answer only to the High Inquisitor and, of course, Emperor Barnaky himself. While Inquisitors are well trained in combat (like all Midwestern Brotherhood members), their purpose is not to fight and would generally prefer not to. Instead, they manipulate and intimidate. And are especially good at “extracting” information when required. The max number of Inquisitors for this RP is 2 (Although that COULD be flexible.)

Inquisitor’s Intelligent Deathclaw.

-Unlike ghouls and super-mutants, Intelligent Deathclaws found a place within the Midwestern Brotherhood and have become respected members. These Deathclaws are well spoken, highly intelligent, and are occasionally philosophical, but always incredibly deady combatants. Each Deathclaw is assigned as a personal protector to every Inquisitor in the Midwestern Brotherhood, and this companionship forms a special type of bond between the Inquisitor and Deathclaw. Intelligent Deathclaws may be RP’d, but if you are an Inquisitor and no-one RP’s your deathclaw, you must take them up as an NPC yourself. Number of deathclaw positions open depends on the number of Inquisitors.

Paladin-Commander (reserved):

-There will be one Paladin-Commander in the squad, and will act as the military leader of the Paladins in the group. As a commander of a Honor Guard squad, they will obviously be well trained and will have earned a position of prestige in the Brotherhood.

-As Co-GM LoneRanger will be the Paladin-Commander.

Paladins / Knights:

-Honor Guard Paladins and Knights. The class which will hopefully make up the majority of the squad and of which there can be any number of. The title of Paladin and “Knight” is used much like the CWBOS, in that it is a rank as opposed to a caste or something. Paladins are technically above Knights, but that won’t really matter much for this RP. Obviously, their primary role is going to be fighting. But their could very well be some overlap.

Scribes:

-Any number of scribes as well, but hopefully on the low side. Obviously scribes are the brains to the Paladin and Knights brawn. They are experts in the scientific, medical, and engineering skills, and their combat training is fairly minimal (they can handle themselves though). They'll be very useful for any number of scientific or medical reasons (hacking computers, healing the wounded, repairing robots etc.)

Robots:

-Yes robots. If you have a want for it, you can RP a humanoid robot. One of the calculator’s soldiers who now fights for the Midwest. They are not advanced to the point of androids like in Fallout 3, but they can talk, reason, and fight well. And with accurate robotic precision.

Others:

-Other suggestions for classes are welcome, but that’s all I could think of for now. NPCs will fill out the squad positions where needed as well.

And Finally:

Character Sheet Template

Name:
Gender:
Age:
Class: (Inquisitor, Paladin etc.)
Race:
Physical Appearance:
Personality:
Clothing/Armor:
Weapon(s): (All weapons and weapon types from Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout Tactics, and even the unmade Van Buren are acceptable. )
Skills:

Perks/Traits: (Optional. These won’t be used except in certain cases, but they can give a sense of your character’s abilities).
Equipment/Supplies (Aside from weapons and armor, what is your character taking with them on the mission?)
Backstory:

Final Note on Characters and the Midwest:

The Midwestern Brotherhood is an organization of religious fanatics. Moreso than the regular Brotherhood as they actually have a formal structure for their religious beliefs. They generally are elitists, and view themselves as superior (especially to mutants who they view as disgusting abominations). They are also intensely loyal to their leaders.

Different characters are possible (so we all aren’t snobby elitist toughguys) but that’s a general idea.

Also as a side note, I really like Van Buren. So locations and concepts from that unmade game will likely show up in this RP.

So yeah, any interest in this? I realize there is a few roleplays going on right now, and some that have stalled. So I'm not really sure if this is poorly timed or not.

The concept of playing a robot intrigues me.

I figured it might intrigue someone. So I thought, why not?

I'm interested in the robot idea too but how old are they? I was thinking of creating a robot that reached self-awareness and is technically "alive" so to speak.

Depends. You could make one as old as ninety-something years I suppose, since Fallout Tactics's start date was 2197. The Midwestern Brotherhood has been producing them since then as well.

Also, just in-case there is any confusion about what robots we are talking about here: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Humanoid_Robots.

Pretty awesome design actually.

On that wiki page it says that they were built by the DoD and some backup systems were cut because of funding. I was going to have a robot that came online a around 40-50 years after the Great War and developed a personality in the 200 or so years after that.

Put me down as "Very interested". Being an inquisitor sounds like tons of fun, but I'm also considering RPing a scribe.

Sounds fine to me.

Would he have fought with the calculator or stayed out of the fight?

Will do.

And yes, Inquisitors are indeed fun. And their "skills" will be used in this roleplay.

I'm assuming that he wouldn't. The wiki says that parts of the calculator got corrupted and started that pacification protocol and if he had activated soon enough, he might not have gotten corrupted.

Put me down as interested. I am thinking either a Scribe or a Knight.

Actually if someone wants to be an Inquisitor, I might be interested in playing their Intelligent Deathclaw.

I should mention that my character will be the "High Inquisitor" role. So we will at least have one for sure. I was originally going to make his deathclaw an NPC, but if no other Inquisitors appear, you can certainly have a place as mine.

Doesn't really matter either way. Its up to you completely. I'm not going to be real picky.

Backstories don't have to be terribly detailed either. I should probably mention that.

I actually would like to play as one of the Inquisitors. After you played Prax in Aztia Andro, I always had a desire to try my hand at playing one. So if at all possible, I'd sign up for that role.

And of course, if someone wants to be my Deathclaw partner, that'd be awesome as well :P
