We might just have an interactive world.

I was watching the trailer for Skyrim in slow mo when two specific things caught my eye. One was a moving water wheel in real time, the second was a spinning windmill. Now this may seem like a small thing but if you think back to oblivion there is nothing that actually moves in the world except NPC. LAstly there is a man chopping wood at a chopping block. All this point to a world that seems more alive and realistic.

As mentioned by Bethesda in the OXM report on Xbox live, there is also much more happening in the streets. He mentioned that the NPC juggling in SI, gave them confidence to continue with the trend and apply it more. I think we will see much more life to the streets now, which is great!

You do know there are waterfalls in Oblivion, even Morrowind, too... that moves?

But yah, Skyrim got more animations for everything and that makes the world feel less static and lifeless.

With all the attention that got, I'm sure they've taken steps to remedy that.

But these are spinning wheels! Those haven't been seen...well except the still-running Dwemer machinery in Morrowind. Whups...okay, nothing new. :D

Also it has been stated that moving water will affect your character, so supposedly when you jump in a moving river (like the one in the trailer in the village) then you will float along with it. Not massively ground breaking as Legend of Zelda did it a long time ago but not many games do it anymore.

You will generally notice that as games get more advanced, more things move. :P

The point is that it's all scripted. It's not a result of a living breathing world.

Even if they fix the direction, you're not going to see the windmill slow down because the wind is hitting it wrong. That would involve a weather simulator (or some such thing).

See first point.

Yes, I believe that is correct.

You can definitely see it if you flipped it in your video editor, it is actually really obvious when you see it reversed.

Which are all obvious additions. Do people have such low faiths in Bethesda that they don't expect them to attempt to make the world feel less like a frozen picture frame and rather moreso in motion?

If Bethesda's good at something it's usually world building. Then there's the dungeons themselves Hopefully having more people and less dungeons means that side of gameplay won't be stale, ie. Same cave for 60 dungeons.

Story, writing, VO writing and quality, story, writing, VO writing and quality. Good luck Beth. You'll need it.

Wait a minute here, you guys got your facts all mixed up. It was confirmed that the Dragonborn wallpaper was a mirror image because he appears to be left handed. Even if the video footage WAS a mirror image it's not the direction of rotation that is wrong. Sails on a windmill PUSH the blades not pull. It's wrong not matter how you look at it.

Not exactly. If you flip that scene over, the blades will still be facing the same way but the windmill will be moving in the right direction, where the wind pushes the blades. I don't know where they said it was mirrored and frankly I could care less but if it is true, which it seems it is by all the people that said they saw a dev confirm it, then it would work out well.

No it wouldn't because even if you mirrored it the sails would still be leading the rotation which is wrong. The only thing that would make it right is to reverse it and we know by the NPCs walking forward and chopping wood that it hasn't been reversed.

Direction of spin is contingent on the gearing inside. Clockwise and counterclockwise spinning windmills exist. The important thing is that the blades lead the rotation no matter which direction it goes.

So since the people are walking forward in the trailer (which is apparently in reverse), they walk backwards in the game?
