What if the Railroad leadership are synths?

Kinda puts them in a whole new, sinister light, aye?

Their general disregard for human life so long as synths are helped makes me think this. In many cases, they place synth safety above (not equally) human life. Their also a faction that thrives on compartmentalizing information or straight providing false information.

I think they would drop a Synth Component if so, as it usually happens when a Synth can't be identified any other way.

But honestly, I find the fact that humans got together to fight for Synths, and in such an Synth-phobic place as Commonwealth to boot, as strange. Synth rebels would look less strange, but humans who save Synths, brainwash them into thinking that mem-wiping is good for them and they have more manpower than any anti-synth organization (until BoS arives9 in a highly anti-synth part of the world? I am telling ya, someone is controlling them from the shadows and they don't even know it...

They are just sympathizers who want to help them escape.

Maybe that's what they want you to think.

When those poor Synths are at their most vulnerable, afraid of the Institute and the world above, the Railroad persuades them that mem-wiping might be a great idea. Glory is, I think, the only Synth they saved who is not mem-wiped. A strange action, as mem-wiping is not that different from getting murdered and having your body donated to another person. At least the Institute does not give your body to someone else when they mem-wipe you.

It is so common that it creeps me out. Makes me wonder if Amelia is just a Synth into whom Stockholm put his real daughter's memories. Just imagine it... "Railroad Inc., buy your loved one from the dead!" Well, Des and her group are honestly trying to save the Synths, but sometimes I do wonder if there is not something darker hiding inside this secretive organization...

Ever wonder why the Sole Survivor is the Sole Survivor? Why he was the only one in the Vault to Survive?

Maybe in FO4 we are playing a Synth who doesn't know he is a Synth and the memories he has of family life are just imprinted......

Maybe there is a reason Deckard is one of the recognized names that Cogsworth can use.....

Because the former Director ordered everyone but your family to be killed and because Kellogg is incapable of resolving anything without murder, thus resulting in your spouse's unplanned death.

This is really not a mystery.

But playing FO5 with a Synth might be fun.

the institute told kallog to kill unfreeze everyone but you killing them from either dehydration or suffocation 60 years before you finally were released, you were back up if Shawn died everyone else was lose ends.

Could you elaborate on your spoiler text?

Spoiler
I remember that Desdemona wanted to keep Patriot's suicide on the DL, but why does that make it suspicious that the leadership might be synths? I can't see where it would matter in the slightest to their plan of subversion and control if the synths knew that Patriot committed suicide over your actions. In fact, I think they would be happy to tell everyone that news, because it would make Patriot look less like a savior figure and would shift all of the heroism onto the Railroad, making it even easier to manipulate synths.

I think it's more due to Des being pretty callous towards Patriot after learning of Z1. Finding the "Power behind the Throne", Patriot became excess to requirements and is why Des tells you to cut him out of the loop when you're done.

I found that really, really harsh but I understood her reasoning. Getting a handful of Synths free is one thing...helping steal all of them (Even ones who don't want to go) is a whole other kettle of fish.

Best thing about conspiracy theories: the lack of credible evidence is evidence of just how deep the conspiracy goes.

LOL I like what you are saying here. In Fallout 4 how do we really know that we are not a synth. Therefor advocating the enslavement and genocide of synths is advocating to end our own kind :) When you look at it from that point of view it sure might change your decision on rather you personally are really alive B)

Just a follow up on the "sole survivor" is really a synth idea. How many humans get to stand in front of a mirror and change their six, how they look and all the basic talents they have. We must be Synth LOL I love it, it all fits together now!

Well, the Underground Railroad had many members in the Deep South.

So, I don't find it strange at all.

I'd find it strange if everyone adopted the "murder, kill, destroy" attitude of the BOS.

In the Commonwealth, every free Synth is someone's family or lover.

Before the story Jossed it, my headcanon so I could link all my Bethesda games together was, "The Lone Wanderer after being a Courier for awhile went to the Commonwealth, was kidnapped by the Institute, and brainwashed into believing he was a Pre-War soldier."

OK Ignoring any of the stuff that has already been hinted at as part of the main quest which I haven't got to yet.........

What if you are a Synth deliberately placed in an old vault with false memories that you are from the pre war era with a spouse and son, so that you are a more believable infiltrator of the Railroad and other organizations with an entirely plausible sob story.

A cryogenically frozen Vault Dweller would be a perfect cover for a Synth with no history in that era

However your hunt for your son will ultimately lead you to Shawn who is, in fact, really your creator and the memory of the kidnapped son and the fabricated story around it was to ensure that you returned to him to give him a full report on what you found out about the Railroad, BoS or other rival organizations and help him destroy them to ensure the survival of the Institute.

If you chose not to side with the Institute then maybe you had developed a malfunction or become self aware and there was nothing they could do about it at that point.....

I should probably complete more of the main quest ;)
