Minecraft Thread #73

A question about redstone circuits. In brief, is it possible to have a circuit which is normally on, but when you are on a pressure plate it turns off.

I have a track going into a building, and I want to have some pistons block it off, then open right before you get to it. I can do this in reverse easily enough, but having the gate slam shut in my face is about as useful as opening it up for critters while I'm inside.
Yes, an inverter.

___[]i__

___ = wire
[] = block
i = torch (mounted on side of block, not on floor)

Ah! I had it placed on the ground, not the side of the block. Thanks :D

I'll give this a try tonight if I don't go back on Fallout1

Install all the mods.
I assume you're talking about my attempt to join the server last night?
If so I used the Technic mod to try join, just chancing luck, but it didn't work for obvious reasons :tongue:

But the quote from me there is for the next weekly snapshot, so I don't see why you quoted that and said install mods?

Any news of what's happening with Tekkit 2.0?

They're so clueless when playing their own adventure.

No.

I'm talking about the fact that there are over 4,000 block IDs now, so I'm gonna install all the mods.

Every one available.

Here’s the development snapshot of week 7, 2012! List of changes:
  • Added new world file format called “Anvil” (256 max height and 4096 block IDs*)
  • Multi-player light calculations do no longer cause affected blocks to be transmitted to the clients, instead the clients will recalculate the light on their own
  • Villagers will repopulate villages based on how many houses there are available
  • Some nights in villages will be worse than others…
  • Added a redstone-controlled light source
  • Decreased chance for the rare mob drops
  • All animals use the new AI system now
* The game can’t use the full range of IDs yet because there are still some assumptions that IDs above 256 are items.

Download http://tesfan.mchost.org/TechnicLauncher-v0.2.exe . Run it, it will launch it's own minecraft launcher. At the top left, there is a mod selector, choose Tekkit. You should see it download all the needed files.

Got this somewhat working, but in the mod select there's only Vanilla and Technic, no Tekkit. Ideas?

Cool, that worked. Thank you.

Ugh, Technic and tekkit has some kind of weird TooManyItems. It doesn't have the creative/weather settings and I can't actually use it to get stuff.
And in SSP technic there's A LOT of human enemies in armor and with bows. I can't go anywhere without getting show down by a mob of them, what the hell is this.

It's Not Enough Items; press the 'o' key to hide it. You can also go to the options by clicking the Options button in the bottom-left corner to set the configuration of it (such as Cheat and Recipe mode, and additional cheats (the buttons)). Item spawning in SMP is identical to Too Many Items, in which you need to have permission to spawn items in the first place, and the chat command must be changed if you're on a server with Bukkit and the Essentials plugin.

Sounds like either Humans+ or that wretched Tales of Kingdoms mod. Both are not worth the hassle they cause, IMHO.

Probably Humans+, I had ToK earlier and unless they had some major update this isn't it.
Can't seem to customize the mods Technic uses though. There is a Mod Options button in the launcher but it does nothing.

That's not a good thing imo. The first 20 videos or so were great but then it all went downhill. I guess when 95% of their fanbase are annoying 15 year olds who think Minecraft is the best thing ever, they kinda have to create content for that crowd. To be honest I'm surprised they are still doing Minecraft videos, if I played that game as much as they do I'd be so sick of it I wouldn't be able to launch the game.

I really don't understand their popularity. They're really bad imo. They svck at games, barely ever get facts right, there's no humour and they do barely anything but Minecraft videos.

Their first Minecraft videos are really good. They don't really explain how the game works but they are just having so much fun playing it, which really makes the videos enjoyable and gets people interested in MC. :shrug:

Their livestreams are excellent as well, but that's mostly because the other members of the yogscast, Lalna and Sips, are awesome. Seriously, they have their own channels now and their videos are 10x better than anything Simon and Lewis ever created.

The button was from one of the UI mods, I think.

Aside from that, I found the http://forums.technicpack.net/index.php/topic,639.0.html with my superior Googlefuby going to their forum. It appears that the version of NEI in Technic is locked to Recipie mode through NEI's config file.
Problem: NEI won't let me cheat!
Reason: It is locked into recipe mode.
Solution: Well if you really want to cheat so badly you go into AppData\Roaming\.techniclauncher\technicssp\config and find the NEI.cfg file(Note, NOT the mod_notenoughitems.cfg file) In there find a line that says
"lock_recipe_mode=true" and change it to
"lock_recipe_mode=false"

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say, maybe you put in a space extra or took one away?
(I don't know if that even has an affect)

- I got it working simple, btw you say you followed them to the letter, it does mention saving the YML file, did you do that?

pretty much my thoughts, it was really entertaining back when there was the complete unexpected town of terrorvale, considering the fact that they were at the time claiming they were the only ones on the server, but at this point its obvious they know whats going on and are just making it last as long as possible other wise they'd be irrelevent.

So are people actually playing atm? The technic server seems really dead, barely any sign of activity. And from what I gather no other server is really active. Am I right?

At this point we're all in Limbo about when we're updating since some of us are still having problems installing Tekkit 2.0.
