Minecraft Thread #73

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 1:02 am

I've heard some good things about Minecraft.

I'm thinking of downloading it on my iPad, since my PC is fried. Anyone hear any good things about the iPad version? Is it worth a download?

Is there any chance of us having a 'default' server IE one without client side mods? Trying to understand what I'm borking up is giving me a headache, and I'm thinking of just saying screw all to mods except texture packs. There's so many cool mods, but I honestly don't PC game, so I have no idea what I'm doing when I install them, nor am I a tech whiz from the start. But I don't want to ask for a 'normal' MC map/server/ thing unless more than myself would be willing to play.

i second this, we would be seriously limiting who can or wants to play by having just the exclusive tekkit map

it would be comparable to trying to play a TES game with a joy stick

i did not know you could do that, i would invest in a mouse for it as well. although to be honest i don't know if it would work even then.

i am some what certain that the ipad version is not coded the same as for regular computers. i would research further if i were you because you may end up getting the crappy half baked version of minecraft.

Most people were able to get it installed, and very few people had logged onto the vanilla server, so it was taken down. Not really any reason to not have it running though. I'll work on getting it going with the prior map tomorrow, little late tonight. Expect 16 hours or so from now for the "tesfan.mchost.org" server address to become just vanilla, and no longer the Tekkit test server. Hopefully the Tekkit team will have Tekkit 2 bugs worked out soon, not being officially released makes it much more difficult for players to jump into it.

Minecraft on the iPad is currently iPad version only. No support for the non iPad multiplayer versions, such as our server. It is also creative mode only.

I wouldn't recommend it. It's a very scaled down version (only thing you can do is build, not many blocks to build with, no combat, maps are very, very small, I could go on) and the controls feel like they're meant for the iPod/iPhone version. It's really hard to hold the iPad comfortably and use the touch screen controls to build while still having to move your character around.

They're supposed to be updating it to include some more of the features from the PC version, but I still can't see myself enjoying the game much if they don't do something about the controls.

Then I'm just gonna use the PC downstairs in my house because Minecraft for the iPad is $4.99. Is it free usually?

Actually I think it was $7-$8 when I bought it. It might be on sale.

Minecraft is a game you wont regret getting :) im not sure about getting it on an iPad though I had it on iPhone and it was really awkward to play, but as long as you have a keyboard it should be good

Seeing how we don't really have any kind of economy, and the server is mostly just for non competitive fun right now, I'm re-allowing /home for all groups. Not sure why Bone nixed it in the first place.

Commands are
/sethome - set home to current position
/home - teleport to where home is set
Yeyyyyy

Its like $15 but that is a good price and the longer you wait the more the price will go up because they update every so often and add new stuff to the game

You should for starters put that in a spoiler tag and maybe edit posts rather than continously posting :P

Downgrade the Tekkit - how thats done

Maybe uninstall/delete the launcher and then redownload a plain version.

There was a help thing somewhere that told you how to do that and a bunch of other links in the post editor...

But you can do it by doing > [.spoiler] text [./spoiler]
Just erase the dots at the start and you have working spoiler tags.
