Is Minecraft Trying to Overtake Skyrim?

Perhaps Bethesda should be more concerned about Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 both planning to release on 11-11-11 as well.

"As usual, Call of Duty games are released in November. Therefore Modern Warfare 3 is expected for a November release. Specifically however, rumors have been going around that the game is set to be released exactly on November 11, 2011. If you think about it, it makes sense. Releasing Modern Warfare 3 on 11/11/11"

I don't care if its a different genre, surely a game that sells in the BILLIONS will be competition to your gaming product if it releases on the same day.

Agreed, there is only so much money to spend at one time. I however am waiting a few weeks or a month or two for MW3. I want to see if they will ever actually care about good singleplayer gameplay or if it is basically gonna be the same old "Hey! we have new weapons and shinier graphics, on the same engine. Rather than offering it as a $30 dlc give us $60 and grind back up to Prestige again [censored]wads."

Pretty much nailed it on the head. But the fact of the matter is, you're going to buy MW3, hell I have Black Ops, I think I played it 5 times, and I'm still going to buy MW3. Just like the people who continue to purchase Madden. While no one is arguing which is a higher quality game between Skyrim and MW3 its is still silly to think Skyrim will compete with those numbers. People don't realize MW2 sold an unprecedented amount of units, and MW3 is perhaps the most anticipated sequel since Halo 2. While Skyrim and CoD have different target audiences, there is no denying that people will be spending their cash on Call of Duty. It's like when two popular movies release on the same day, sure both will have success but one will reign supreme in the box office, and we are all blind [censored] to assume it will be Skyrim in this scenario, Hell, Battlefield 3 will be picking up all the anti-CoD sales on that very same day. While the games won't be in direct competition with each other, Skyrim will ultimately suffer by releasing the same day as these two juggernauts in the industry. Unless the rumors prove to be false and the release dates for MW3 and B3 are announced to be something different, I wouldn't be surprised to see a delay into spring 2012 for Skyrim.

I agree that Skyrim is better than CoD better in general (as for Battlefield, I say that Skyrim and it are equal, but two different genres), but you can't argue with the sheer popularity of CoD and the how much CoD sells, it is foolish to just dismiss CoD and say that they [CoD and Skyrim] don't compete.

I have to disagree with your assessment of CoD, that it is [censored] (well, it sure is in some countries). CoD is a great game in that anyone with a basic knowledge of FPSs can pick up and enjoy alone playing single player or multiplayer, or with friends in multiplayer. A lot of people seem to dislike Call of Duty with a passion simply because of its popularity. That being said, the game has a lot of flaws, some major, some minor, which can be said of almost every (if not all) games (including TES).

There are two options:

1. You are trolling.

2. You are [censored] [censored].

No. Just no.

Oh, ok. Then I will have to disagree even more there.

Minecraft is ingenious in it's simplicity and yet being complex at the same time. To me, it is like comparing gold... to more gold.

I heard MW3 is coming out it will be 100x worse than skyrim but Minecraft whilst similar has a very different reason to play it and will attract less hardcoe gamers but more who like simple games and it isn't like miinecraft has good graphics so they can hardly base it on that they have a few similar properties but many games have bows wolves etc even zelda has those things plus 11-11-11 is one of the most memorable dates that you get but if i recall there were a few things released last year on the 10-10-10 so it isn't like it is particularly rivalrous.

Minecraft is a browser-based casual MMO. Skyrim is... SKYRIM!!! Regardless of when Minecraft comes out, Skyrim will not be affected.

the question really is how long will people actually play skyrim when they have minecraft as an alternative. i loved morrowind and im really looking forward to skyrim but i have yet to see a game that approaches the depth and complexity of minecraft.

Skyrim is also a SP game, MC is MP and if your like me or the majority people I know who play MC its alot more fun on a server using all sorts of add-ons then it is playing alone in MC, I will get Skyrim regardless because one I will already get full version for no extra charge on 11.11.11 of minecraft and two Its a Skyrim is a great game and loved previous games.

I'd say no, seeing as over a million people already bought the game, and costs about 20% of what Skyrim will cost. Furthermore, while both are "sandbox" games (well, Skyrim to some extent), they are completely different types of games overall.

call of duty got really stupid after world at war... Battlefield 3... can't say i have ever played these games. skyrim will wont be over shadowed in fact it would more do the overshadowing... you would be surprised how many people prefer and elder scrolls game to an FPS game... FPS you can just pick it up a few days later and still wouldn't matter... point being a lot of people have lost respect for infinity ward because of modern war fail 2. black ops was ok but it could have been better.

I disagree, BF3 and MW3 are definitely going to have an impact on the sales of Skyrim if they release on the same day. And actually, imo and a lot of other's opinions I have heard, Infinity Ward made the best CoD games compared to Treyarch.

But Minecraft won't have an impact.

What will make the largest difference is who ad campaign more, CoD will most likely be the winner but because Skryim and COD/BF are different genres those looking to get Skyrim will no matter what because its the only RPG game I heard of anyways that is releasing then.

Back on the bash CoD series past 4 everything gone to hell, CoD2 is still the best one out of em all but ya.. Battlefield (if sticks to roots) will be the best FPS out there

OP , you a good joker . Minecraft is already out making pretty good sales. Notch hopes to have the full game set in stone by that time. (sure there will be other things might added later on but hey .....)
People can buy Minecraft at any time. Most likely people might be buying the Minecraft before 11-11-11. To think Notch has a bone to pick with Bethesda is just plain silly .

This thread is immensely stupid. The release date of Minecraft literally means nothing. It is already released. It is just an official tagline.

And if anything, Skyrim release will damage minecraft sales.
