Mini-games

Post » Sat Feb 27, 2010 7:04 am

Hello ! Everyone's talking about Skyrim ! And anyone who played Fallout New Vegas should know about the Caravan Mini-game, should Bethesda add some sort of Mini-game for easy money-making ? or for something else ? Five Finger Fillet etc, or something else.

They probably will, but I don't really care. I never play any of those kind of minigames. So, no, I would rather they put the effort into other stuff.

Mini games include lockpicking right?

But there should be beer drinking contest-high endurance or cheating FTW :)

Like in Final Fantasy Series? I say no, I don't like that or accomplishing something in timely manner to obtain a powerful weapon.

Don't want. I hate minigames. (Gambling aside)

A well implemented skillcheck would be better.

I like the idea of card games in bars, etc., but for things like lock-picking and speechcraft, I'd simply prefer a stat check.

Leave the mini games to Fable, keep them out of my ESV!

If they are added, i will NOT use them(unless if they are actually good or essential)

No, I want Lockpicking to go back to being Character Skill. It is an RPG for a reason.

Pretty much my exact feelings on the matter.

But what if I want to role play a skyrim-poker player who cheats his opponents? I wants some mini-games!

In brief: no.

At length: noooooooooooooo--...okay, I'll elaborate. Basically, lockpicking in Oblivion drove me up a wall, across the ceiling, and over a cliff. :bonk: It's a pointless time-waster that thankfully is made irrelevant on acquiring the Skeleton Key. It serves no purpose and certainly doesn't enhance roleplaying. (Especially since, even if you're a novice lock-picker, with enough time and a large enough pile of lockpicks you can pick any lock you please. RPGs should not work that way.) I want my stat checks back.

Don't even talk to me about the persuasion pie-chart. We just won't even go there.

I wouldn't mind some optional gambling minigames (the key word being "optional"), but I really hope they get rid of the lockpicking and persuasion minigames. I want to play an RPG, not an abstract puzzle game involving a rotating pie chart.

there is gonna be minigames in it, I personally love the lock-picking one in Oblivion, especially since it is so accurate, well accurate enough

I'm not exactly passionate about them but I don't mind mini-games at all. I loved the lock-picking in Oblivion.

Scavenging makes the game much more fun if you want to make easy money, no mini-games needed.

Only if they're the kind that doesn't become an annoyance or just becomes burdensome after a while. Oh, wait...

Morrowinds lockpicking system is nice so I would like that.
Maybe some card games like Poker or a Drinking Contest.
Who can drink the most Beer? Haha. That would be fun.

"mini-games" like oblivions lock-picking, NO. Things to do in the world, gambling, drinking, decorating ones home, crafting, thief:ing, eating/drinking, sleeping, socializing, romance, sailing, having pets, collecting items, commerce, building, YES.

No Oblivion-style persuasion minigame

I like how in Fallout 3 there are skill requirements, so you can't pick a 'very hard' lock with a lockpicking skill of 5, and succeed easily.

I personally want mini-games, not the speech one, as that was horrible, but the lock-picking one would be welcome if they tweaked it a little, actually making it related to one's stats. I don't want it to be, your skill is over lock skill, so you can open the door or container. To make players feel immersersed, that should combine stats with player skill, so there is a mini-game that depends on one's stats.

Perhaps even other mini-games, such as ones where you use instruaments. If done correctly it could be pretty cool, if not...

My gut response is NO.

Having said that, I don't have a problem with Caravan in FNV. It is optional, it fits in with the over all atmosphere of the gaming world. If don't play it, I am not penalised for not wanting to play it.

I have a real problem with mini-games like the lockpicking game or the Persuasion game of Oblivion. I still to this day cannot for the life of me play the Oblivion lockpicking game (the Fallout version is fine) and the Persuasion one drives you batty after the first 500 goes... They fail for 2 reasons: 1) if you can play the game it makes no difference what skill your character has and 2) it is really dreary to the point of torture once you have picked your 70th lock or are persuading your 50th NPC.
