I voted no, I would like the least intrusive screen possible.

Yep, loved it. Always had it taking up about 20% of my screen and fairly transparent. RARELY used OB's local map.

No. I don't want an intrusive HUD. Well, maybe if it was optional.

If it was optional, sure, I wouldn't mind a mini-map, but I don't really want it. What I really want is a compass. It just feels cooler, in my opinion.

Call me crazy, but I want virtually no HUD.

My Oblivion game is modded so all I have in my HUD are the status bars, the crosshair, what weapon I'm holding, and what spell i'm using, all partially transparent and taking up about half the space they do in vanilla OB. Everything else I have to open my inventory to see, so using my compass for example would be more realistic because in real life you would have to take a compass out of your pocket to use it. It wouldn't just float in front of your face.

If one of a game's main functions was to immerse you in their world, I would want to see the world as close to how I see the real world as possible. Just my opinion.

I love how simply saying "like in Morrowind" or "like in Oblivion" can significantly alter the results of a poll. Personally I prefer that the HUD be as noninvasive as possible, so no minimap for me.

I loved that map, but I'd like it to look more like a map you'd expect to see in a medieval setting rather than a perfect photo.

Personally, I am not a fan of the trend in gaming of having as minimal of a HUD as possible.
I don't want to open a menu ever couple of seconds for one reason or another, and I don't like guessing how much health I have left.

Mini-maps are one of my favorite HUD-based things in games, so bring it on.
ALthough, I guess making it optional would make it more fair.

I greatly miss the minimap. Not having it on the console worked pretty good, but imo it feels so much more natural on computer

Oblivion and Fallout 3 style please. And generic Morrowind style too because the map was not always open for Morrowind. You have to turn it on!

I find the compass better for immersion, but I hope it's a little more vague with detecting new landmarks - Fallout style.

In general, less is more when it comes to the HUD.

Having an optional minimap is not as simple of a solution as some of you seem to think. If there is a minimap in the game, then the game will be designed to optimize that feature. There will be many benefits to using it and no benefits to turning it off (apart from extra screen space). Players who turn off the minimap will be at a disadvantage, and may even miss out on some important things in the game/world as a result. Unless one of you can think of a way to implement an optional minimap that doesn't give a distinct advantage to players who use it — in which case, why have it at all in the first place — then I think having an optional minimap is a bad idea.

Lighten up Francis, don't think so hard! :)

I had it up in MW simply because it saved time and was concenient. I don't remember having any kind of dis/advantage while it was on or off. Frankly, I just hate doing repeated map checks,

and why couldn't the "local map" in OB have been made option and in the corner? If I remember, that gave out just about the same information...

I would like one, but with options like turning on and off door and marker icons on it, or removing it all together

I would like it if it was optional, so I picked Yes, but with this change. Sometimes I need to check my map every second or two, but sometimes I have no need for it and would prefer it to be off the screen.

I like the overall idea of having a mini map optional you can not go wrong with giving people multiple options of customization. Its the little things that count.

I prefer neither way, but again, I'm a tiny minority these days.

The way I would prefer travel to be handled, is to have no map, and no arrows pointing you where to go. Instead, you have a compass that tells you where is N/S/E/W and nothing else. You then get directions from the quest giver, and you have to follow that. Quests that behave like real adventures, not 5 minute virtual chores. That's not going to happen though.

I removed all my hud exept the sneak and level icon, and magic effects in oblivion. These few features are rarley ever showing, and i like to have a nice unobstructed view of cyrodill. I would also like to have this option in skyrim.
