Minigun overheating and possibly other firearms? Jammings?

Well take least 2k bullets to overheat for mini guns.

I was thinking like miniguns or big guns depending what they are over heat while small guns smg rifles etc were they are applicable they jam not all weapons.

I don't really want to see overheating, but I wouldn't mind random jamming at all. Maybe based on Luck and repair state of the weapon? Probably need a bit more to it than that, but it could be interesting.

Jamming maybe depending on if the repair mechanic is in or not, but hell no to overheating.

Repair should play the part here. I always thought it was silly how guns lost damage and "broke" when the weapons degraded. Instead, it should be like real life, where the less maintained the weapon is, the more prone it is malfunction.

How can a minigun even...overheat? You would have to have that thing plugged with a 3-mile long belt of ammunition and holding down the trigger nonstop.

I want the Far-Cry 2 style jams. Those made the game interesting. Overheating I'd rather not have though.

I hate fallout's current style of jams

There was a gun show around 2008 in Nevada where I saw the person firing a minigun. He demonstrated that a not properly cared for and maintained minigun if you let it get worn out not by firing, but by the weather he made the minigun get worn out in a controlled simulated weather environment which replicates 10 years or so of weather for about every 6 hours or so. He had his minigun exposed to it for 12 hours to see how much damage the weather can cause. So 12 hours equals 20 years left outside in weather of heat and not a rainy wet environment, but a environment with some moisture and sale and after I think 300 or so rounds fired he said the minigun started overheating not even after 2,000 rounds fired or 10,000 rounds fired. This was a minigun that he purchased that was made in the late 1970's.

Any item being left outside for decades or centuries will be affected a lot more than people think when exposed to the weather and not taken care of properly to make sure the environmental conditions keep it from corroding, oxidizing or rusting.

I voted no to both. Weapons degrading and needing repair is enough.

But current speculation says that has been removed.

Overheating mechanic as a replacement for that could work. I'll need to try http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/49892/? for New Vegas to find out :hehe:

Me either. That could be really awkward with my female character.

Anyway, 'no' to overheating and 'yes' to weapon jams, based on repair/condition.

"Overheat" is a relative term for a machinegun.... I have seen the barrels of M60's white hot, almost transparent, you can actually SEE the slug moving down the barrel...... Now, when it gets to that point, it is most certainly time to do something about it....... before it simply blows up in your face.

If anything the gatling-laser and tri-beam mini-guns should overheat.

Hmm... But they use multiple barrels too, right? And as we have established, having the weapon not over-heating is the reason for it to have multiple barrels :)

Then again, this is a game and ultimately: meh

Pssst.... it's not the barrels that would overheat with beam weaponry...
