Minigun is pathetic

Are you on console? Then I would pity you if I would not dislike the system. ;) On PC that's not a problem at all in a Bethesda game.

Oh yes, it should. I don't like using a gamepad, so consoles need disadvantages, otherwise the PC would die even faster. ;)

Minigun is supposed to be Gatling equivalent ballistic weapon. Problem is Beth gives us a mini gun to early and hence they had to nerf it until it was useless. A basic 10 MM pistol has more base damage than the mini gun, yes it is that bad.

The weapon only svcks cause beth wanted power armor and minigun right of the bat, hell the vertibirds svck cause of this issue as well, the base damage of a vertibird minigun is 5, swallow that.

you know a simple fix to this would be to make that first minigun a unique rusted one that does less damage

What? I'm pretty sure the 'Obsidian fans' were the ones demanding for a more realistic minigun for NV, one that ignores armor for the sheer high volume of bullets whizzing towards the target along with the velocity of each bullet.

Is this a new sentiment on the forums? I've seen this complaining about "Obsidian fans" a lot from new members lately.

If Bethesda were terribly concerned with what Obsidian fans wanted from the game Fallout 4 would have been completely different. This is 100% Bethesda's work and blaming anything wrong with it on Obsidian or its fans is ridiculous.

hmmm. A few levels of heavy weapons and mine seems like a wand of death restricted only by ammo use.. Not so great against heavily armored enemies though

You Need the Explosive Minigun. ^^ Every Weapon in the Game is bad without a good Legendary Affix at Survival. ^^

A weapon shouldn't need a magical legendary prefix to be decent. That is terrible game design right there. Fact of the matter is a mini guns base damage is even lower than a 10 mm pistol and that is just downright insulting. Luckily i play on the PC and so i could rectify via mod.

The whole point of heavy weapons is that they are devastating, the mini gun with it pathetic damage has no right to be even classified as a heavy weapon when its worse than pistols.

Ah, always play on normal because its closest to a level playing field. Once the AI mods start coming I'll smarten up the NPCs but I loathe bullet sponge humans.

Pipe weapons (wont list, as they are all pretty meh imo)

10 mm pistol

.44 revolver

sawed off shotgun

combat shotgun

assault rifle

combat rifle

Laser pistol/rifle (technically the same)

Institute Pistol

Institute rifle

Plasma pistol/rifle (technically the same)

missile launcher

minigun

gattling laser

fat man

gaus rifle

hunting rifle

railway rifle

junk jet

sub machine gun

alien blaster

gamma gun

telekinesis gun

Not as many variations on ranged weapons as I'd have expected from fallout to be honest

(edit) overlooked the last 3 on the list

I took an Irradiated Minigun off of a legendary raider. When he opened up on me "BRAAAAAAAAAAP" and my HP bar went from green to all red, I couldn't believe it, so I was thrilled to have it.

Of course, it svcks.

the first thing i'm going to do when they release the G.E.C.K next year is revamp the damage on all weapons

the minigun is still good vs melee enemies because it staggers them and they can't get to you

Off topic : i got 1 shot by a mutant with a gauss rifle , but the ones with miniguns just make me laugh at their damage

Minigun svcks? Really? Lets see hard facts instead of someones beliefs:

Minigun 35 DPS (damage per second)

Laser rifle 22 DPS

Combat Rifle 21 DPS

Combat Shotgun 16 DPS

10mm pistol 14 DPS

(basic versions without perks and mods were used for purpose of this comparison)

May be some players skills svck instead?

There are however some specific points about minigun which if not taken in to account, will greatly diminish it's effectiveness:

With 8 damage per bullet and very high rate of fire, minigun is fairly ammunition hungry and ammunition inefficient. Expect to go through you ammo stockpile real fast. However only alternative way how to spent those 5mms is to sell them for cash. So unless you are broke, you may as well go on an kill someone with them.

Due to the way armour works in Fallout 4, minigun is fairly inefficient against armored targets. But that apply to all weapons with low per bullet damage and high rate of fire (most automatic weapons). This is made worst by the fact that minigun lacks armour piercing receiver mod.

It lacks extensive modding abilities. Not many mods for minigun out there. But then, you can't expect to turn it in to pistol or sniper rifle, right? It's made for specific purpose and it's good at it and not much else.

It's fairly inaccurate and have modest range. Clearly not a weapon for sniping. It is however very stable, with no recoil, making it excel at sustained fire at short to mid ranges.

To sum it up, minigun is devastating if used correctly (at close to mid range against unarmored targets) and svck if you failed to take look at it's stats and make proper conclusions. If you use minigun to control crowds of charging ghouls or clearing tunnels of mirelurk infestation (do I have to tell you that you have to shoot them in to the face?), then you are using it correctly. If however you use it to snipe securitron across the map, then you are welcome to post another minigun is useless rant here. In your hands, it indeed is.

The only thing which I think minigun really lack is armour piercing receiver (would turn it in to better all round weapon). Seems developers thought it would be too OP with it.

I'm thinking that a mod (or Bethesda patch....right) to add some level of armor piercing to the Heavy Gun perks might help a lot. Also, if you could mod the weapon with some mods that add armor piercing and/or DoT mods (poison, bleeding, burning, radiation etc.), that make make the weapon more useful (I know some of those are available as Legendary modifiers, but other than Ashmaker, they are not guaranteed obtainable).

The Crazy Thing about the Explosive Minigun is, that it can get the Perks from Heavy Weapons + Explosives ^^. The Weapon Balancing is really bad in this game and the Legendary Affixes the most.

In my Fallout Version the Minigun does Insane Damage but has big Recoil and you can't move while Shooting. Also you can't use V.A.T.S. with the Minigun and only can use it in Power Armor. You Need 2 Perks to put out the most of the Minigun for reducing recoil and movement reduction.

If you are doing the big guns/explosives build:

Mini gun is for mowing down hordes of ghouls or other weak unarmored enemies.

Missle launcher is for everything else.

Fat man is for laughs.

No it just svcks, theres really no such thing as unarmored opponents as all enemies naturally go up in resistance as you level and if you run into an "unarmored" opponent its actually just several levels below you. The only impressive thing about the minigun is its accuracy when standing still but otherwise its outperformed in damage by every other heavy weapon and even an auto 10mm pistol.

I'll take my assult rifle or combat rifle over a mini gun anyday. I use them as full automatics and they kill stuff alot faster. Now I got the overseers guardian and it does ALOT of damage as a full auto. I can take down sentrybots with less then a 2sec burst at close range. I took one out before it could even start up and that was with the normal moded combat rifle. I still got 1 rank of commando and 1 rank of gunnut to go before I can max it out.

I have to say beforehand that I am pretty crappy at combat, less the other fella is asleep or drunk or does not see me coming down a dark ally.

And I am not the best combat build, But I did find an explosive minigun (15 extra not sure how high the extra damage you can find goes but thats what i got this particular gun). And it changed how i looked at them I really like this gun there was a certain church filled to brim with feral's that just kept coming... I was laughing for as for near a full minute my badly aimed wild shots turned a stairwell into what can be described best as a meat grinder. Bits were flying everywhere.

I fully suspect if you could find one that added rad damage or extra energy it would come into its own on all kinds of targets, without even a proper heavy weapons build.

Ehh in closing I have yet to hate any weapon really yet, it might not be right for you but in the right instance they work wonders.

I'm on the final brotherhood mission, all five weapons perks taken, and my fully upgraded and modified ashbringer does less damage then my automatic laser rifle which I have no perks of any kind in.

Obviously it fires more shots, but a high level institute soldier takes like 6-8 seconds of concentrated fire, and lives half as long against upgraded guns I have no perks in.

Compared to my Gatling lazer, missile launcher, flamer, and even my combat rifle and assault rifles, it just does far less damage and uses many times the ammo.

I really want to like it, but it needs a damage boost. Currently it's a great gun to look at but it might as well be a nerf gun.

People say they have 27 damage ones, but mine is 21. Do any perks aside from heavy affect it? I know for a fact the automatic guns perk does not.
