[Relz/Beta] MiniMap - HUD Element

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 7:58 pm

Thanks for the great minimap mod. Makes it much easier to navigate and less distracting than the regular game. I'm playing with FCOM/UFCOM and plenty of OBSE mods. I mention in case there is some conflict about my mod setup.

Today OBSE said it encountered an error. The error was in Minimap mod supposedly. I don't know anything about the latest obse changes, but thought I would post here to start. Here is my obse log.
I'm using Minimap 0.7.1b OMOD install with DarN UI option. I have DarN UI 1.3.2

I started the game in bruma (loaded). Walked outside the town and circled it partially. Visited a few caves in the area but never entered interior, looking for a mod-added cave. Archers fought monsters, bandits chased me. I made potions with advanced alchemy. Not long after that when not far west of bruma (could see walls) heading south, I got this error.

I think beta 0018 is counted as 18.0. So beta 2 would be 18.1, etc.

Thanks, yeah that makes sense. I haven't had the error again but I didn't try to reproduce it. I was getting CTD's in that particular area when fast travelling to creepy cave (mod), no idea if it is specific to minimap though, I tend to doubt it since I didn't get obse errors on that crash but did on the other while walking around. Played for 3 hours or so without trouble in any way in minimap.

Sorry, I know this isn't really a bug report as me whining, but I'd like some help please.

I installed it, it doesn't show up and I keep getting the error that I haven't adjusted the screen width, or something like that. I go in, and I adjust it. I reload, same error. I've adjusted it to all three that you have listed in the ini (obviously at different times), but it won't load.

It is worth noting that I'm using Darnified UI, but the minimap is loading WELL after that.

Enlighten me?

Also, it's worth mentioning that I do, in fact, have the latest version.

My screen resolution is set to 1600x900.

Not sure what's going on, perhaps it fails to read it or something? Could you check it ingame after getting the error message with
show MiniMap.iScreenWidth

This new version is awesome... The auto switching is neat. And the possibility to switch from local to world map with a button is even greater. Thanks a lot man! :foodndrink: :rock:

[*]Fog-of-War (the black unexplored areas) in Local mode, I have no way to detect or create such areas on the MiniMap.

:D :D :D
You know, I have always wondered wth fog of war is. I was typing tfow in the console and stood waiting for some fog and after some time I decided that it's broken!

Ok, I kinda expected that. Now, since you mentioned you've changed that setting atleast two times there may be a small error in that particular line. Please post the top section of your MiniMap.ini.

;=======================================
; MiniMap v0.7.1b INI file
; Edit the settings to your likings
;=======================================

set MiniMap.iDebugMode to 0

; Critical Settings
; ==================
; This setting indicates what kind of map you are using for Cyrodiil, or rather
; the dimensions of your map. There are a few mods out there which expand the size
; of the map and I've listed all the ones I know of. If there are any that aren't
; listed let me know so I can add them.
; 0 = Vanilla map (size-wise, not visual-wise)
; 1 = Elsweyr Extended Map (the large/zoomed version)
; 2 = Elsweyr Extended Map (the normal version)
; 3 = Stirk (Tamriel Rebuilt, uses different worldmap file)
; 4 = Stirk (Merged Maps, uses same worldmap file as vanilla)
set MiniMap.iTamrielMap to -1 ; 0

; Your screen width class, isn't always the same as your actual
; screen width. Values to use are: 640, 1024 or 1280
; See the table below for a quick lookup on what the value should be
; according to your resolution. If you get stretching on the MiniMap
; you need to pick a higher value. If you get overlapping grids or the
; borders don't line up, you need to pick a lower value.
;Any Higher -> 1280 (probably)
;1280x1024 -> 1280
; 1280x960 -> 1280
; 1280x800 -> 1280
; 1280x768 -> 1024
; 1280x720 -> 1024
; 1152x864 -> 1280
; 1024x768 -> 1024
; 848x480 -> 640
; 800x600 -> 1024
; 720x480 -> 640
; 640x400 -> 640
set MiniMap.iScreenWidth to -1 ; 640

You need to set "MiniMap.iScreenWidth".

I'm aware of that, and have set all of the possible options, but still get that error.

I'm not completely helpless, I just need explicit click by click instructions :P

That is of course unless you mean the -1 part.....

Yikes, yes I ment the -1 part. Everything after the semicolons ( ; ) is ignored and is only there to indicate the default value. Perhaps I should add that somewhere.

So the -1 before the semicolons needs to be changed to 1280 (I'm running 1600x900) and the 640 should be left alone?

Yes. The ";640" is only there to tell you what the default value should be. Of course the actual default value is -1, but still. You need to do this for your whole.ini file. Go through it and set everything that follows a "set xxxxx to xxxx" to the default values (or values you like).

Known Issues
  • This mod uses a command called "OutputLocalMapPictures" (OLMP) which generates textures to the harddrive of the current cells around the player. They will only be generated once per cell (grid) after you visit it. The texture files are located in "Textures\Maps\.." and are each 256Kb. A quick overview: A quick runthrough from one side of the Shivering Isles to the other results in a total size of just over 42Mb. A larger overview: I explored all outdoor areas on the Shivering Isles and the total size was around 240Mb, and that's a large area! It is safe to delete these files when they become too large - they will be generated again should it be nessecary.

Is there anyway to view/edit these textures. I tried to open one in photoshop and all I get is black....?

Great mod, the local map works great. Though I'd love to see support for Sutch-Elseweyr-Dunkerlore-NRB_Elven_map mod. It can be found here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27553 I tried all the various ini settings but to no avail.

I was originally going to post some problems I was having, but after searching through the other posts I've figured out what was wrong. At first I simply couldn't get the map to show up and was getting http://img89.imageshack.us/i/uierror.png/ error. Then I figured out I just needed to update my OBSE, and it worked fine. My other problem was getting the local maps to be in color. Then I read that I needed to delete my "Textures/Maps" folder, and now that problem is fine. I'm still messing around with the MiniMap.ini to try and get everything how I want, but so far I really like this mod. I couldn't see myself playing without this mod now!

Great looks like your problem is fixed, now can we get to the local map not showing and map icons not working because it is really giving me a headache. I will probably take a screenshot in a bit but for right now. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

So I tried out this mod and I have to say it's a truly impressive piece of work. Unfortunately until you can figure out how to get the fog of war working I can't use it. It just gives me too much information as is.

Hey I know your probably getting spammed to death about your mini-map mod, but don't worry I don't do that. Anyways I wanted to know how to get the local map to work. I've been fooling around in the ini. file to see if that helps, but if you have any ideas on how to get it to work or what variable I need to change on it, then I would be much obliged. Also Great work with this mod since the Word map still looks good even without the icons. :D

Sorry about not replying sooner, I did read the PM but while I was thinking about the problem I kinda forgot about the PM itself. :blush: Can you tell me how it is not working? Is the local MiniMap entirely black? Are there strange tears or overlappings with the textures?

Unless there will be some magical way to access the actual local map that floats around in the memory I won't be able to get the fog of war working. :( I admit that when everything is visible it can be too much information, for this very reason I'm not gonna use it myself when I finally get my new FCOM setup done. Well atleast not for actual play-time, I'll still leave it enabled in case I need to debug something.

===========================================================

Other (good) news, I'm working on an OBSE plugin which will enable me to add map markers to the MiniMap. And possible quest markers aswell, although only for the world MiniMap.

What about having an option for a fake fog of war? Only have the mini-map set at a specic zoom and you can't zoom in or out. The level could be specified in the ini file. Then just have an overlay that has a central circle of visibility with black all around that. Maybe double the distance you can see if someone is playing in third person mode, though of course that too would be configurable. I play in 1st person and it would be nice having the map just to get my local bearings.
