Minimap Questions for Everyone!

Post » Sun Mar 16, 2014 2:58 pm

I created this poll just because I was curious as to what people think about having the option for a minimap alongside the compass in ESO, or the option to switch between the two. I love the compass in ESO personally because it has been in use since TES IV: Oblivion, but I think having both would be neat. What do you guys think? I believe having the option to have one is great, that way the people that could use it would have it, but the ones that do not want it can keep it off and keep everything the way it is for them. Others speak of mods being created later for this but why have a mod for it when you can simply click a box in settings to turn it on or off? That's just my opinion, so give me yours! :D :D

I couldn't believe it wasn't an option already. Of course, I can't believe how bad the map is in general (really, no way to add notes?).

If they did implement it I would like them to do it as a perk that they spend a point on. It could be an active effect that reduces max magicak (or stamina) by 10% similar to how summons work. They called it wizards eye or farsight in other games so they could make something up for TES lore.

I would be for it, if that's what other players want. Were you thinking of something like the Saint's Row or GTA minimap? Would enemies pop up as red dots? It would be useful. Of course, having the option to turn it off is good, as many players are upset with even having the compass we already have.

I can't speak for the OP, but I would like an on-screen mini-mao to at least show me my surroundings & notes/symbols from the regular mini-map. Basically, I want to avoid having to stop moving (and paying attention to the world) and opening the existing mini-map to see where I am and orient myself. I don't need *more* information than the existing mini-map has, I just want to be able to see it on screen. FYI, I's be cool with a hot-key trigger and a fade-away after a few seconds, I just don't want to have to stop and pull myself away from the game.

I'm quite content with the information we already have on the map in the menu. I just want to be able to see roads and objectives really, I don't need to see players or anything like that, but points of interest for sure, like the smithing station, woodworking, etc. And like the incredible said above, maybe having a hot-key to press so it shows up and fades away would be cool, too. There are a lot of people that are selfish though and don't even want a minimap option period. They think that because they don't want one then that means no one should have one because they are right and everyone else is wrong. I don't see the logic in being against an option that can be turned on or off but I guess some people can't be nice.

If you could add notes and markers yourself and activate and deactivate markers from your compass on the map. That would be the biggest improvement for me without adding a minimap.

Morrowinds mini map system was pretty much useless as there was no real quest directing or location directing system implemented. You had to learn...and remember. Most of the time you had to open the menu like in TESO.

I think the compass does a pretty good job. It's clean, it doesnt give too much away but will guide you. There has been a couple of times where my quest markers were miles away without me knowing. The marker should really scale in relation to proximity.

Funny thing is, when they did away with the minimap the reason given was that players spend all their time staring at it instead of the game. Now with the compass, I find myself always staring at IT instead of the game

I see no reason to not add it, it is a feature that people want, and what is my opinion to keep other peoples opinion out of the game, when it brings 0 negativity, but only progress.

Don't forget that in Morrowind you had the opportunity turning the minimap off. I liked the way you could adjust the UI how ever you wanted, though in ESO I found it quite satisfying.

Personally i think even the compass by itself provides too much information.

I mean, you get a quest to look for lost people, and instead of searching for them, you just have to follow the dot.

 ...
