Minimum/Recommended System Requirements

Post » Sun Nov 22, 2009 9:12 pm

Did anyone post minimum system requirement for PC yet?
If not, when can we expect to see them? If yes, can someone direct me to them either on this forum or other website?

If you spent that much on a PC I'm pretty sure you can run it just a guess.

Brink runs on the id Tech 4 engine so look at system requirements for games using the same engine.

DOOM 3
Pentium 4 1.5 GHz
384MB RAM
64MB video card (Ti4200/8500)

QUAKE 4
Pentium 4 2.0 GHz
512 MB RAM
64MB video card (Ti4200/R8500)

ET QW
Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
512 MB RAM
128 MB video card (FX5700/R9700)

WOLFENSTEIN
Pentium 4 3.2 GHz
1GB RAM
256MB video card (6800/X800)

Today the typical PC gamer is expected to have
E6600 or X2 5000
2 GB RAM
512MB video card (HD4670 or GTS 250)
Hard drive space shouldn't be an issue with what they cost now
Brink will be very likely be compatible with Windows XP.

Generally if you have this system you should be able to run any game at medium settings.
If you don't meet or exceed these parts then building your own for $400 easily can.
So the people who have been playing Modern Warfare, Team Fortress 2, Quake Wars, Borderlands, etc would be able to run Brink. I get the feeling a lot of people see game requirements as arbitrary and think some outrageous specifications will come out of no where. Understanding more about the game removes the mystery. And building a PC now in anticipation for a future game is a bad idea. Just wait for the game to come out. That's how I used to do my video card upgrades. I'd get displeased with current performance and buy something new. Though at this point in time it's kind of unique how graphic requirements have been stagnant. Cards from two years ago are still just as good as new ones today.

I still run most games on high with just my 2 8600 GT's. :D

I am upgrading to an HD 5830 (or around that) come October when the prices drop.

Device ID: 0x9488
Revision ID: 0x0000
ROM Revision: 113-B8030H-114
EFI Driver Version: 01.00.403

Not too good on computer stuff. Ps3 for me, but I'm just curious.
If someone could answer my question that would be great :)

Dual core i3 is what current 21" macs come with. That's a newer generation than what I mentioned. 4 GB memory is the minimum included with it. I already stated the 4670 as an example. It would likely run assuming everything goes well with bootcamp. If you're buying it for a console why does this matter? Laptop users have the same mentality. I don't understand these buying habits.

now that Steam has a Mac client, there's a very good chance of a native Mac port

Those two things are not related. That is not how steam operates.

But id Tech 4 runs on Open GL and there is a Mac version of Doom 3.

I'm pretty sure Brink actually uses id Tech 3 as it's base, however the devs have mentioned that the engine is heavily modified and little of the original code remains.

Rage is on id5, I also recall Brink being on a heavily modified Id4 engine.

No, it's id Tech 4. The point is either way it runs with OpenGL which is more Mac friendly than DirectX.
