Mining/Forging

Post » Fri Dec 03, 2010 8:11 am

Mining and Forging have both been confirmed. This is most likely old news but I am just getting to it. My question to you guys is, how would you like your mining?

I would personally like to have to physically use a pickax to uncover various gems and metal in the walls of abandoned mines. We saw a small glimpse of mining in Oblivion in which you just pulled a gold nugget out of the wall (very dumb). We should then be able to sell the item for large amounts of money 9depending on rarity) or use the metal to create an enchanted sword. This info makes me very excited.

How would you like to mine?

P.S please give more examples of other games with mining in them, my list is pretty pathetic!

TBH, I don't want to sit there like in RS mining for 3 hours to get ore. I would prefer it if there was a mini game of some sort that rewarded you with lots of ore for a success and a weathering condition applied to the pick axe when you messed up.

I'd like to see it done completely manually. Similar to Runescape's, I guess, but you do all the clicking and you physically chip away at whatever you are mining instead of just clicking on some vein of metal and watching your character mechanically collect it.

Pretty sure there's no Minigame involved. Probably just an animated interaction and a chance to obtain ores. I'm fine with that, I'm not going to roleplay a coal miner.

I think its a good idea to have it be like runescape's except like you said you have to manually make each pick.

Who voted Runescape? Skyrim will have nothing similar at all to Runescape. Far from it.

why is it people want EVERYTHING in skyrim to be an EXACT copy of a feature from another game?

how about we let bethesda make their OWN system for mining/forging?

im sure whatever they do would be better than runescape... or whatever the hell motherload is.

I've never played the games mentioned in the poll, but I would like to be able to equip a pickaxe and hack away at a node to obtain ore. I really hope it's not a minigame, as that would get tiresome very quickly.

If they just allowed me to equip a pickax and swing at the rock im fine... I dont want a mini game or watch an animation of my character mining as that would get boring very very fast

waste of time unless they allow forging of daedric armour with daedra souls trapped by umbra or something.

Id prefer they script ore rocks to randomly give you ore as you beat the hell out of it.

Runescape was click and let the system take over, I want to physically beat it myself.

Probably because it's easier to say "They should make it like x" then explaining exactly how it should be done.

But anyway, I suspect what happens is that you just activate an ore vein with a pickaxe in your inventory, or equipped if they're like in Morrowind and you can equip them, and you see an animation of your character hitting the vein with the pickaxe a few times (This can't be too long or it gets annoying, and even then, it could still become annoying once you've done it many times if it can't be skipped.) and then if you find ore in it, you get an appropriate ore which can then be used in forging. That's how I think it works, anyway, because I get the impression that Bethesda wants you to see yourself doing these things, so I doubt it would be like in Morrowind and Oblivion where you just "open" the ore vein (However you do that.) and get the item. But I think that requiring the player to do it manually is more detail than I expect to see Bethesda do.

My basic idea is that pickaxes are equippable weapons, and you just equip it and start laying the beatdown on some rock.

I really like the Equip pickax and smash rock until you get ore thing. I also think that veins shouldn't be a lump of rock sitting on the floor like it is in some games. It should be in the walls of caves.
I hope that finding ore is scaled so I can make iron armor at level 47 if I want to.

i chose runescape, but i hope the anvils and the furnace are in the same place unlike runescape, it svcked having to walk to one town to smelt your ore and then walk to the next to actully make anything

Don't really understand the poll. I mean, what the heck is motherload? Never played runescape either.

What I want though: 100% real-time and full animations. I want to be able to be in 1st person, use a pickaxe as a "weapon" and smash the on a rock, so that some pieces of ore is shattered and then pick up those.
This could be done by simply making the rocks destructible.

MineCraft

^^^ THIS

Yet I have no idea how can such system implemented in TES5.

Anyway most probably we will have something similar to ingredient harvesting only with rocks that refills after time
(and you need pickaxe to harvest it)

Most probably we will have slightly bigger inventory, than that crappy Runescape teapot
So there is no problem to gather load of ore an then go and smelt it

I would love to have foraging/ hunting actually worth something :P Like in fallout vegas. Meat was actually worth up to 20 caps if it was mirelurk meat. In oblivion, it was a measly 2 septims for wolf meat and 5 for a wolf pelt. It kinda threw the immersion out, and the only true way to make an income was through dungeon diving or restore fatiuge potion spamming. Im looking forwards to more diverse methods to make an income in Skyrim
