I don't mean middle section as in touch, target, self. I mean the middle of your list in your spells. I guess I don't see what you are talking about. This is what I see:
If my current spell is a custom spell called Void, and, say I equipped it, but I haven't used it yet. Then I use it, and open up the spell inventory to switch to another spell that is not already hot-keyed, the list jumps to the M - Z side of all my spells. And starts listing them at the M. It doesn't jump to the beginning of my list of spells, it jumps to the middle. And then it picks the first spell at the top of the list and highlights that. It never goes behind my current spell.
I'm confused now too.

Hope the previous made sense. This middle spell picking for me by the game, only occurs when I have made a lot of custom spells. If I am playing a non to little magic user, I never run into this problem. I think it is related to the chest listing problem in concept.
Yeah, I'm not really good at explaining myself, which is why I tried using examples.

Yeah, whatever spell is highlighted is the center of the spellbook menu, so i guess it does jump to the middle of the spells. Though, it doesn't matter if I use the spell or if I even have it equipped, as long as it's highlighted in the spell menu.
I'm gonna try use a clearer explanation. For example. The last thing in my spellbook menu that I had highlighted (I don't even have it equipped) is Heal. And you have Firebite behind Heal and Ice Touch in front of Heal.
So, my spellbook menu would look like this.
Charming Touch
Firebite
[Heal]
Ice Touch
Ice Blast
When I open up my spellbook menu again, it would still show that Heal is still highlighted, and Heal would still be in the center of the page, then it would suddenly highlight Firebite, and the page would move one spell up, so it looks like this now.
Calming Touch
Charming Touch
[Firebite]
Heal
Ice Touch
I hope this clears up any confusion with anyone.
