16 minute interview between Todd Howard and Notch (Minecraft

Post » Thu Jun 16, 2011 12:26 am

Do you mean cool facts? Because honestly now I just feel like "wool meet eyes".

Mods on console are possible, in the way I detailed. As Todd stated though, the

(I'm hoping for console creation kid, it will be a great intro into the PC)

Don't be so condescending, it is petty and reflects poorly on you.

I'm not denying that PC will be the superior platform. I'm saying that mods from PC being on a console are possible. You don't have to have a beast PC to run some of the mods. That means more than just a 'small tweak'. UT3 had some massive things going on in there. I'm ignorant to the fact that PCs are a better platform, my other most wanted game this year (BF3) will be far superior on it. I don't have the option right now and I'm just hoping that they include a way to play mods on the console, not just 'minor tweaks'.

Btw I plan on getting a gaming rig however I have already got a gaming console and a laptop. In my situation I cannot justify spending money on a gaming rig pc when I am living on a budget. By the time I get to use a gaming rig at a regular rate which will be in about 3 to 4 years time I will most likely not have an up to date computer to play other games that come out.

PC version of a game is inherently superior? Who would've guessed a game that does native 1920x1080 and supports modding would be better than a 30fps 1280x720 version ...

Consoles support 1080p! says so on the back box. IDK if oblivion did though.

also, come on guys, we all know console sales are what allow Bethesda to keep making these games. the PC if anything is a source of income loss on account of piracy.
I'll admit that the graphics and mods are a real edge, but I can't tolerate playing any TES game, or The Witcher on PC without a game pad. I guess I can use the 360 controller but its a lot of crap to manuever through. its easier telling the truth: Consoles are the main focus.

No, but aside from the simplest of mods you will need other things like a mod/conflict management tool, script extenders, and who knows what else we'll need for Skyrim. As unlikely as I think it is MS will allow even simple mods onto the console it'll probably be a cold day in 'you know where' before they let programs like OBMM and OBSE onto their platform.

I loved it, despite no new Skyrim info it was beautiful in the way it was just a conversation rather than an interview.

I have to agree with Todd I always thought the end of Red Dead Redemption was bloody brilliant, however I don't want any end game credits rolling up my screen during Skyrim.

Great video

I like how Todd mentioned they are looking into getting mod tools on the consoles. I'm sure Microsoft, and more so Sony, is concerned about the security of sharing the stuff but Shor-Damnit we need mod tools too! Other games can share maps (Farcry 2) and other creation stuff like car designs (Forza) why can't they just allow Bethesda to send a extra disc that allows us console gamers to mod and create and share too!

I have no doubt that Microsoft has contacted Bethesda at some point to persuade them to use Kinect for Skyrim.

As long as they tell then to take a running jump it's fine. Skyrim will be to good a game to need any gimmicks attached to it!

I thought Notch was fairly awkward, but that could just be because English isn't his first language and he's kind of on camera... who knows? Todd Howard was perfect, though!! Am I the only one who finds him to be extreeemely attractive?...

This^. Far Cry 2's map editor was actually pretty impressively done on the consoles.

I'm man enough to go ahead and say I see him being an attractive guy. But he does go back and forth between being a smart, quiet guy with absolute control of his domain, and just being an ultra-geeky, awkward game developer. But I think in person, and outside of his career, he could be a very cool character.

Haha the Kinect part made me laugh. "Microsoft wants to have Kinect in all their stuff" "Yeah I'm aware of that". The way they said that made me laugh. Microsoft fail. Interesting as hell to hear this "conversation".

Todd did confirm that dragons will be forced upon us though :cryvaultboy:

I get a feeling that Notch is excited as hell to speak with Todd and Todd is more reserved.

"I started roleplaying in Oblivion" "That's the point!" This made me sooooo happy, and feeling less alone.

And he says it's only superior due to modding. Which I agree with.

Excellent excellent conversation. My only complaint is I wish it was longer. To hear both of these dudes speaking their minds for hours? ..man... I'de just sit back and take notes...absolutely brilliant. Perfecto!

You're not the only one; Todd is totally hot.

I've really come to like Game Informer [above any other gaming publication] lately, and features like this are great.

Qualities in a man that I would marry... no doubt about it! XD

Although, he probably doesn't go for lowly plebs such as I with a wallet so old and empty that an entire family of spiders could call it home... even in my own pocket!! *squish*

I would like to see a Skyrim: Minecraft edition, though. Build your own Nordic cities? Create your own smelly, old, frozen dungeons, complete with grumpy, floating, undead sorcerers? Yes please... :)

Is it just me or does Notch in one point in the video basically say "I love Bethesda, let me work for you"?

I didn't think it was awkward at all, they both seemed genuinely interested. Really good interview/conversation.

I really liked this interview.

every interview with Todd as of E3 has basically been a lot of brown nosing and Todd talking about things we knew about in frickin 2010. That mexican guy with the beard was really cringeworthy to watch. This was more relaxed I think Todd enjoyed it too.

My guess is that Todd LOVES the PC ... but can't admit it for fear of angering the giant beast MS.

While I don't think mods will make it to console, or at least in a VERY limited sense, hopefully the next-gen allows for greater freedoms.

Unlikely with MS/Sony running the game (less so Sony).

Good to hear acknowledgement that the PC version is superior, I was getting a feeling that they were intentionally damaging the PC version so console gamers wouldn't feel slighted; which would be really dumb.

Only they are. It runs DX9 in 2011 and doesn't look anywhere near as good as a PC exclusive like Metro, STALKER, or The Witcher 2.
