I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet. I imagine we're pretty far away from having TES mods on the consoles.

That was beautiful.

This. That "interview" could have continued for a lot longer. I was disappointed when it was over.

That was fascinating. I could listen to Todd talk for hours. Could fall asleep to it even, some folk have sounds of the ocean, rainstorms etc recordings to listen to when they go to bde, I just need recordings of Todd Howards interviews. Is that creepy Todd?

Dialogue was awesome
I don't know about Skyrim, but Daggerfall could be recreated in MC
Of course there is magic and mob issue, but it is also modable

And it was one more proof that Sony and MS aren't interested in good games
They are interested in
1. Making as much $ they can (not as much they need)
2. Making games that support their ridiculous gimmicks

I love seeing Todd recognizing how great Oblivion modders are. :D

He says that makes the PC version the superior one.

I sure hope Microsoft isn't pressuring Bethesda to add Kinect to Skyrim. I know Bethesda has talked about having a modding element on consoles and I can envision a negotiation where MS says ok, if you put Kinect in the game. I don't think this seems like a good thing.

Another part of the interview, in combination with that GI podcast link that is provided in this thread is where Todd was talking about Red Dead Redemption. He wanted the horses in Skyrim to be *that* good. I haven't played it though.

They were pretty freakin' good in RDR. If they are that good in Skyrim, that would be awesome.

they do look a bit awkward and shy but it was fun to watch regardless. Skyrim minecraft? Awesome concept. I am also interested in Notch's ideas for making Minecraft combat better and adding a goal to the game other than building. Since I love Minecraft I would also love to see how Todd will use influence in future products (if he so chooses to). This also goes to show that for those of you who complain about TES turning into fable or trying to mimic other games out there that they do play games from other developers and study them. Artists study and get inspired by other artists so it makes sense for video game developers as well.

Mods won't work on consoles logistically.

You have this HUGE community of PC modders, most don't care about consoles (or are adverse to them), how do you get that community to A) work on a PC and also B ) care about gimping their mod for consoles.

I'm picturing something like the Apple app store, where "Apple" determines what goes and what stays ... anything other than simple game tweaks would not be approved.

Making mods on console less than attractive, but still, better than nothing I suppose.

(TL;DR - get a PC)

footnote: now, if console gamers got into modding ... different ball of wax. Then they could use the console 'creation kit' with built-in limitations that prevent the mod from RROD'ing the 360.

I don't think RockStar owns the license exclusively so it is possible but an expensive feature.
I haven't watched the interview i am to afraid to see todds Holiness my eyes might fall out.

At the risk of de-railing the thread, this. There is already a perfectly viable avenue to mod usage.

Cool story.

Some games already do this, stop starting platform wars.

Interview was really insightful into both developers. Interesting that Todd has played some long open world games such as RDR, more suprisingly L.A Noire considering it came out during the build up to E3, I would have thought he would have time for nothing.

Do you mean cool facts? Because honestly now I just feel like "wool meet eyes".

Mods on console are possible, in the way I detailed. As Todd stated though, the PC will be the superior platform.

(I'm hoping for console creation kid, it will be a great intro into the PC)

This whole interview is infused with the power of win. Very cool to see Todd not being barraged with stupid questions and actually tossing a few himself. He didn't ask Notch if you could party with zombies in Minecraft though.

Notch: Microsoft wants Kinect on everything.

Todd: I'm aware of that.

Logistically it is a bit more tough but definately doable. Folks cheat with mods online all the time. Something like this is a bit more proactive. The community just needs to be built up around it. Infamous two has a quasi mission creator out there. Small step but a start for consoles

Some comments as I watch it:

-Notch doesn't seem entirely happy about the Kinect support for Minecraft, and Todd nearly makes fun of Microsoft for it! OUCH!

-I like that Mr. Howard likes to ask rather pertinent business questions and that Markus is so willing to talk of it.

-They both clearly understand open ended game design and seem to respect each other, but you can tell there's an air of awkwardness since they are there to be interviewing each other. Still, I don't think either maligns the other for it.

-The modding support topic is really important for both games but especially for Minecraft. I feel Persson is a bit disheartened by the fact that it's so difficult to transfer that over to consoles, but Todd definitely lifted him up by discussing the talks they've had over Skyrim. I hope Notch nudges Microsoft towards that.

-Interesting bit on the subject of the main quest. Of course these two have entirely different philosophies towards game purpose, but Todd has an interesting point about pushing players in the proper direction. Minecraft will only force you to do so much before you're on your own which is an excellent approach, so I feel that the way he describes the dragons' place is a bit manipulative.

-Although, there is an advantage to this direction and Adventure Mode could definitely be an avenue of channeling these ideas. I nearly forgot about this, which makes the talk much more relatable.

-Todd's an iPhone guy. That's not important, I just wanted to say.

-The PS Vita discussion was brief but brought up a nice point. I got the feeling that Mr. Howard would actually really like to tinker with that technology.

-Adventure mode could be rather cool, especially if the map system is fixed or even just adapted for that mode.

-Heh... Talking about that glitch made Todd Howard die inside. His lovely game, simply mastered in a little bit of time. But at the same time, I'm sure those people have run the game a few million times.

-Notch went for the scaling... Todd's getting a tough break here, talking to a fan. Thankfully Markus didn't mean ill-intent.

-The RDR thing gave a bit more insight as where these guys are as actual gamers, and I love how they openly say that. There are times when developers simply avoid the majority of other games for some reason, so it's great to see two individuals who not only played the same game but also both love it as developers.

-And the bit on immersion is really helpful too. Todd knows his stuff. Notch admits he doesn't :P

-Recreating Skyrim is Minecraft? TODD, DON'T TEASE US

-Bethesda must be a rad company if they show games to their other employees weekly. That creates a brilliant air of creative content and enjoyment for the people involved. And Mojang too, but that's a given.

-A little confused on the subject of the PR regarding L.A. Noire. Persson admitted that he doesn't do much PR statements and whatnot, so I'm assuming he's looking at it from terms of a consumer whilst Todd is looking at it in terms of a developer.

-Makes me feel they should have gotten a Rockstar guy in there...

-TODD STOP TEASING PLZZZZ
