Minutemen Quests Patched? (1.03)

Post » Wed Feb 17, 2016 1:03 am

I've heard that the new patch makes the Minutemen, especially Preston, completely chill out by reducing the amount of radiant settlement quests (kidnapping, ghoul problem). If this is the case then I'm all for it, but can someone confirm or comment on to what extent the quests are reduced? I've been specifically avoiding the Minutemen due to the insane frequency of quests I was receiving from them in my previous play through, but if they have been patched I wouldn't mind doing their quests.

its hard to tell to be honest, i started a brand new game after i got the patch last week and i'm about level 30 now, i have about 7 or 8 settlements, i had to send preston to red rocket all by himself about 10 levels ago cause he still hammers you with quests, overall mabye they reduced the radiant quests, i do like em just not how he overloads you with them, i already had a quest i just did, i had another on the list and as soon as i fast traveled to sanctuary he was right there sitting down near the workbecnh and gave me another quest, so i immediately sent him to red rocket which i had taken over the workbench but no settlers there yet, if you send him somewhere you don't go to often, he won't be able to give you quests, you still getg a few here and there to help settlements from settlers but its way more rare, if you're in his close vicinity he will give you a lot of em, not sure if they really reduced it by a lot, but he was starting to overload me a bit i could tell, i do not have him at the main settlements like the castle or sanctuary. those are my two main bases, just send him somewhere else and you won't get all those quests, then if you want to do one just cruise to where he's at, i went to red rocket to load the wordbench with supplies and he came over to me and gave me another quest..lol so just avoid him until you're ready to get more quests but you do have to move him to a spot you don't go to, if he's at sanctuary or another settlement you visit a lot, he will zero in on you and give you a quest, kinda like how the brahmin zero in on the feeder trough when, thats what preston does to you.

I can confirm it, I'm only getting settlement attacks, no greenskins, ghouls or Raider quests at all. Preston gives me 0

I still get them, but the amount has been drastically reduced. I'm getting just one at a time now, and I used to get like three of them at a time. I'm getting a much better variety of them now too. They're not all just the same raider attack and kidnapping kind of quests.

In my world, they're still in Town Hall squabbling.

Someday, they might even achieve self-awareness & come walking out.

Here's hoping not. >clink<

I did a bunch of quests for them but after the Castle, I've gotten no quests at all. I wonder if that's because I already did everything? That's hard to believe.

i have a greenskin on my quest list and i started a brand new game a week ago, he hammered me with a few quests for settlements so it may be less or more random, but the green skin quests are still there, there's gonna be quests to open up settlements, they wouldn't stop them all together, in my game they aren't, it just depends how much you're around him, they might of toned it down so you don't get 3 or 4 at a time but he's hammered me still a bit, i sent him to red rocket, hang around him he'll still give you missions, but i do think they assorted them better and made them not so numerous but they aren't stopped, i took over the castle early in the game and i keep getting quests from him including a greenskin one i haven't done yet, i started a brand new game, it might be different if you're just playing a game you already had going when you got the patch.

i think you need to start a new game because if you're playing a game and then got the patch that might be stopping the quests all together, i started a brand new game the night i downloaded the patch, i took over the castle 15 levels ago and and i was getting 4 or 5 quests from him before i sent him to red rocket, and i went to red rocket and he came up to me and gave me another quest and i already had 2 settlement quests on my list, one was a greenskin for country crossing [ i still haven't done it yet] and another was for greentop nursery[ i haven't done that either yet either], i did some others before those,, so he doesn't stop giving you quests, it might be a better assortment, not a lot of kidnapping quests one after the other but if you're not getting any at all, its probably cause you didn't start a new game after the patch.

I started new after the patch and can't really tell the difference. I still get up to three pending "Go Help" quests. Still get settlement under attack pop-ups. Still get settlers telling me about kidnappings and such. No real difference that I can tell. I have learned to just avoid Preston like the plague and that helps some. Course I'm trying to wrap up this character with a MM ending, so I have to keep those last three quests he gave me incomplete so he doesn't give me more when I talk to him.

My minutemen quests have gone completely gone.

I NEED THEM BACK.

I do quests from all factions, and I used to do Minutemen quests while I wait for other places to respawn and quests to be ready again.

I go to both Castle & Preston... and the commonwealth seems to be way too peaceful now.

I personally had no problem with Preston giving me quests because all you had to was not visit him to finish previous quests to make him shut up.

It seems like Bethesda took drastic measure to go all or none with this matter(ALMOST). This is wrong since Minutemen is a faction and now they lost the later side-quests almost entirely.

Don`t tell me this is all happening because my settlements are all equipped so perfectly and I kill all the threats too fast.

On my current play through, as soon as The Castle was liberated I turned-off the switch which controls the speaker and only occasionally listen to the broadcasts. The only missions I'm getting is for settlement defense and that has been drastically reduced.

However, since I don't use fast travel, when I do receive a notification for settlement defense every one has been across the map. I'd be in The Fort and get a notification for Abarnathy Farms or in Sanctuary and get a notification for Nordham Beach. I've failed two settlement defense missions because I did not arrive at either location in time. It isn't a big deal to me at all (it's only a game) yet it does seem rather odd that the defense missions are on the opposite side of the map from my character's location at the time.

Lol. That's great. There are times I'd love to have Sanctuary all to myself.

_______________

Plus, to all:

This was a scripting change, so it may take a while in-game for it to completely kick in. In past Bethesda titles, I think it was 30 in-game days before the engine did a full Papyrus clean-up / refresh.

I used to get them all the time until I discovered you can simply walk away from him before he finishes giving you one. It's not a big deal.

That said ... since the patch he's still giving me tons of them. I decided to use him as a companion and while I was in dialog with him he gave me 3 quests. And they are spread all over the map. There's absolutely no way I could ever do them at the level I'm at so it kind of surprises me that the guy they persuade you to hook up with from the git go would take you in to impossible situations.

I never used him before the patch so I don't know if he's always been this way or this is new behavior, but he's completely, 100%, totally useless as a companion for doing anything other than carrying my crap.

He never shoots when attacked, and the rare occasion he does, he always misses. He hasn't done a single bit of damage to any enemy he's managed to get a crack at according to the damage indicator above their head when I use VATS. He stands in front of you so you can't shoot at an enemy. He's down on the ground in 2 shots. And like all the other companions, if I overload myself, he freaking runs off and I can't catch him to give him my stuff.

It's almost as if someone designed the game to be as annoying and misleading as possible.

Sorry. Just getting frustrated with it.

Thanks.

fwiw, I deleted the entire game and installed from my original disc and then installed the patch. (On PS4).

On my new playthrough I didn't go down through Concord - I went cross-country past the robotics graveyard, where I noticed the power armor suit WASN'T THERE...
(But I was only Level 2 or whatever.)
Then I headed right for the Railroad, arriving at Level 3 or 4, as related in my other threads.

At some point many hours later I went past the Town Hall and tidied up, receiving the T-45 set and minigun.
I walked them to Sanctuary, but I wouldn't cross the wooden bridge!

Now Level 30, I went to Sanctuary and they're living in squalor there with no beds, no food, no water heheh...
Forget 'defense' - they don't need defense - any attack on them would probably be perceived as a rescue, LoL.
I made a special bedroom in the Main House for Mama Murphy. Nice.
At least I was smart enough to create her chair LAST, because you know that once you create it she will never leave it (therefore it cannot be moved).
And at least now she can be spoken to, because her chair is not up in the rafters heheh, like in my first playthrough!

Once Sanctuary is 100%, Garvey sends you to the first settlement Tenpines Bluff, right?
And the dialog options have me telling the guy "I'm from the Minutemen." Which was not true.
But it's always good to clean out Corvega (even for the fifteenth time).

It's important to note that Garvey's quests will AUTO COMPLETE, in time, without you ever returning to him!
This obviously prevents you being assigned any new errands... and is a blessing.

We have discussed at length elsewhere, the culmination of the main quest's explosive climix, and the fact that Garvey wouldn't even discuss it WHILE IT WAS HAPPENING until he assigned not one, but two make-work gofer quests. In the middle of the main quest.
So: I can't really tell you if things have changed or not... but they sure did need some changing.
