Miraak Stuck in Ethereal State

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 10:39 am

Lots of supporting post in these forums outlining in detail the circumstances surrounding this unique glitch and how it happened...and how it was worked out and the success people had doing it now. Up to you to either sit with a broken game, or fix it and enjoy the rest of it. Not trying to be overly harsh but that's just reality. Happy gaming.

Yeah, it seems that way--more and more people are confirming it. But, still, you are mad if you think that everyone who has this bug should just redo all of their progress for the Dragonborn DLC from a pre-Dragonborn DLC "clean save," even if they have explored all or the vast majority of Solstheim.

Go ahead and put that announcement on YouTube, N4G, Kotaku, and all other relevant gamer websites. I bet that it will go over real well, boss. :shakehead:

Edit: I was rubbed wrong by this but edited my post to avoid a flame war. Look, I am not a developer and I have nothing to gain here. All I did was come to this site to look for help with this issue and I stumbled upon a fix and shared it. Does it svck? Hell yes it does but it is the only way right now to correct it. I hope Beth fixes it with a patch but myself, I am one of those people that hates waiting on a fix when I can maybe correct the problem myself. I am a gamer just like you so please don't flame me for throwing out what I found to work. I am also glad that this worked for many others and I hope that your game is fixed soon as well (either via patching, my method, or another easier method found by someone else). Happy Gaming everyone :)

Elderdrake I spent at least six hours trying to kill miraak using every technique I could find before finding your solution. Yes it was a pain re-doing dragonborn but it's the only way past the glitch. Thank you again for your solution. I for one wasn't willing to wait for a patch.

Ok I am seriously pissed at this one. I have finished every side quest in the game and decided to finally finish this thing - so I entered the book to fight Maraak with my family to watch the ending - and low and behold - Miraak is at almost zero health - just stands there etheral. Nothing will touch him to deliver the final blow. I am not going to restart this thing because I've done every side quest and explored every corner of the island. A patch better come out soon.

This bug appears to have a mind of his own, I've had this occur to me once thus far, after defeating him thrice before. I was fighting Miraak when he turned ethereal, and he stayed that way for quite a bit, and the dragon who flew you towards the platform where you fight Miraak, tried attacking him aswell, so I killed that dragon, and Miraak unfroze... it was quite weird...

I haven't started the main quest yet. Well it did start but I'm exploring and doing side quests. I killed 2 dragons and Miraak hasn't shown up to steal a soul. I hope I don't get this bug. Because when I do, I won't restart from a previous save. I put about 16 hours in and if I get this bug I'm done for a while. Already had a lot of freezes and will not waste more hours of my life on this buggy game. It's all about the journey I know, but a journey where I had to restart my console numerous times is not worth it anymore. Skyrim is one of the dopest games I've played in a while, but also the most frustrating one!

I keep getting this glitch whenever i get to that part, i was able to get past it by using the Bend Will shout on one of the flying dragons then use it to get one of the other dragons down to 0 health. This has always worked for me to get past this bug. Anyone else try it?

Have you been through a dungeon with Frea yet? if not, no worries- Miraak's soul-thieving is not supposed to start until afterward.

I have the same glitch. I've already had to delete and reinstall this content once before just to get it to start working at all. Being deployed and paying 64 dollars a month for 10gb of mobile internet just to have to redownload this AGAIN is ridiculous. I have tried killing Miraak very slowly along with everything else but I'm not will to waste another good chunk of free time trying to download the dlc again in the hopes that it installs itself right. A patch needs to come out.

This might be a dumb question, but if I go delete the DLC and patch data, and the reinstall them, will I lose any of my save data? My character has a bunch of items from Dragonborn, and I don't want to lose them.

This same problem is happening so frequently. It seems like Bethesda would've cooked up a solution by now. It's been almost a month. Please Bethesda! This is the second most viewed thread in the Dragonborn section of the forum!

The solution has already been found if you read the thread, Bethesda will do nothing to fix something that was caused by not updating the game to the latest version before installing the DLC.

You are right. Fought Miraak yesterday and defeated him. Didn't run into one freeze, glitch or bug! ;-)

There is another way to cause this bug but I haven't been able to pin-point it, I have however figured out a way to force the script ahead. You must remove the dragons from the equation before you even come close to killing Miraak, Dragonrend doesn't work but the Bend will shout does. All I did was take control of each dragon and order them to attack Miraak one by one, forcing him to kill his source of healing power. Once all the dragons where killed off I continued the fight and managed to kill Miraak, but as I said I haven't been able to pin-point the cause of his freezing.
