Activision, they killed GH and TC. One game couldnt be improved further and the other wasnt original.

They didn't really cancel it, canceling implies that the game was already under development.

It was under development...

Yeah, that article makes it sounds like it's just on hiatus, I just grabbed that one after a google search since the place where I originally read it (understandably) contained strong language, but also made it sound more definitively cancelled.

...To continue their once-a-year releases of a game that hasn't changed in any major way since 2007 by opening another studio to produce it, making it FIVE studios currently focused on ONE IP.

EA is still the lesser of evils my friend.

I'm hoping they work on it after Battlefield 3. As far as I know, the prototype was simply rejected for the time being.

Mirror's Edge 2 was dead when Dead Space 2 was reality.

Not really. They had a prototype, but nothing really substantial.

They have expansion packs for The Sims, tons of them. Actually expansion packs are even lazier than a new Sims iteration.

Isn't that what I just said?

[censored] you EA... They, like so many others, would squash a true masterpiece to make room for things that can't compare, but sell better.

You implied it would be a bad thing to release a new game every 2 years, but that would actually involve hard work and development time as opposed to expansion crap they churn out every 6 months.

People play the Sims games for years without getting bored. Releasing expansions as a way to cash in on that and keep people interested. Once people get bored with the game they release a new one with a new gimmick and the cycle repeats. If they were to release a new game every two years or so, a lot of people would not buy it as they aren't bored with the previous yet. But even if that is not the case, it's still smarter to make sure that people are actually tired of (I.E. you can't milk it anymore) the previous game before you set out a new one. Also, I personally dislike having to restart my families all the time.

I can't help but think that if Activision had Sim City they would be putting out a new one about every year. I would be overjoyed at first, as Sim City is one of my favorite games, but then, as the quality started to decline, I would get pissed.

But this really doesn't have much to do with the canceling of Mirrors Edge does it? Okay, last post on this subject by me.

Doesn't matter, since there are other game developers/publishers out there too. No point in choosing the lesser of two evils when you can pick something good. Screw both of them!

When did it get canceled? I thought it was never in developement, so since it wasn't in development, how can it be cancled? Saying Canceled first implies they were working on it, which I don't think it did, and second, Cancled means it will never come out. From reading a different article, I just thought it's on the back burner bascially. Well way way back, that they are not planning anything for it, but something can happene one day.

I give it a 6/10. It had so much potential, but there were some things that irked me. The biggest complaint was the forced combat and small levels. I had high hopes for the sequel considering it was an ambitious new IP, all they needed was to work some of the kinks out. Easily could have been a 9/10 or hell even 10/10 game. As it is, it's just wasted potential.

Agreed. I think post-release support would have helped the game, too - especially for people on the fence about buying it. If I hear that bugs for a game have been fixed, I'm more likely to buy the game than if I see that bugs and unbalanced gameplay is left un-mended. It isn't like EA doesn't have huge wads of cash; they could throw a bone or two for post-release support. <_<

No more Guitar Hero, and they also axed the nearly completed True Crime game.

Thank you, Spork.

I heard about those games being cancelled, but for some reason I didn't clue in that those were the games the initials stood for. :blush2:

According to wikipedia, it was never officially announced. They had a small team working on a prototype, but they didn't commit to developing the title. Now that Battlefield 3 has been announced, they're reassigning those people to have all of Dice working on Battlefield 3. It's not like they have a half completed game sitting around and they canceled it.

Officially announced doesn't matter. You think the Skyrim team hasn't been working on the game for the past few years?

Even if it wasn't in development, there had been http://www.videogamer.com/news/ea_confirms_small_team_working_on_mirror_s_edge_2.html. And by signals I mean confirmation from the senior VP of EA's European division.

<_< I know, but that doesn't mean there was anything substantial finished. All the VP said was that the game was in production. That's probably just engine development, concept art, story planning, etc. Doesn't mean they have a workable title done at all. You guys are acting like they had the thing halfway done, when really it didn't look like they had anything worthwhile completed at all. That's aside from the fact that it hasn't been canceled! It's just on hold until they can spare the manpower to develop it, which they obviously don't have right now with a huge title coming in Battlefield 3.

My first question is how do you know? No one here knows the extent of the prototype that DICE developed, as far as I know. They could have easily had the animation rigging done already - that alone, really, is what's substantial about the game and its most complicated part. Making a character walljump is nothing new. Making the character walljump realistically is a bit more of a challenge. Aside from the play style, there wasn't all that much about Mirror's Edge that was difficult from a game design perspective - no huge amount of characters on screen, no fancy AI, and the graphics, while awesome in their way, weren't computer-killers.

Plus, the game used UE3, which is now available to most people via the UDK (Unreal Development Kit). Give some enterprising people some time with the UDK, a sound studio and some animators and maybe a mocap system, and you could probably get something like Mirror's Edge released pretty quickly. I mean, look at what http://www.moddb.com/mods/mirrors-edge-source-trailer-map did in the Source Engine. There are also groups looking to develop a Mirror's Edge mod / game in the Source engine.
