I got a little crazy... let me know if this is any good, or just too goofy:

http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/dwemer_staff.jpg. Uses the longspear model, and then I pasted in some stuff from the halberd and the claymore and the shortsword.

I think it looks very believable - as in it fits the game style well

just as a matter of interest in your modding have you ever seen any weapon around like this http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:MW-Concept11.jpg? If not I'd love to make it a a request :)

I haven't seen that spear around, but I could see what I can do... *thinks* Yeah, I could try something. :) There's not much I can do, sadly. My skills are quite limited, and I don't see much I can do with my current skill set to replicate faithfully the weapon in the concept art.

I'm glad the staff doesn't look too out of place. I was considering Midgetalien's excellent dwemer scarab staff, but the unused dwemer longspear mesh beckoned me. :P

Speaking of that piece of concept art, has technology progressed enough to allow someone to recreate the Ordinator's cloak? Seems to me that a bell-shaped, physiqued mesh, with all of the detail textured on (and transparency enabled) could easily replicate the look. Perhaps two meshes, one within the other, for added depth... *looks wistfully in the general direction of his main PC with Blender installed*

?_?

*remembers that he has no real modding skills*

*Ahem* On topic, two more requests for Alaisiagae:

1) Is there any chance of seeing the saber weapon class expanded to include the other materials?
EDIT: Or, since it's a Western weapon style, perhaps at the very least ebony and silver?
2) How difficult would it be to flip the dagger model so that the player is holding it http://tesnexus.com/downloads/images/13986-4-1223152758.jpg

EDIT II: It's a little less elegant than the concept art, but the http://uesp.net/wiki/File:MW_Weapons_Halberds.jpg looks similar to that Indoril spear...

There are only two vanilla saber models, iron and steel. While I could try putting other textures on them (i.e. silver, glass, daedric), I don't think they would still fit in with the other weapons in the material set. I guess the toughest part is that sabers tend to have those looped handles, as you can see in the wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saber. There aren't too many saber mesh resources by modders; of the ones that are available, I am not skilled enough in Nifskope and/or Blender (the only thing I can do in Blender at the moment is import a .nif mesh) to be able to make good use of the mesh. :( It's possible I haven't spotted all the saber meshes in mods out there - if you have any suggestions, please post a link to them and I'll see if I can use all or part of the mesh (if the mod author has given permission for such use).

As for the dagger flipping... I couldn't get to the page, but I'm guessing it'd be holding the dagger upside down? I'm not sure how I would do that - I guess I could flip the entire mesh? It'd only be good as an off-hand blocking weapon. If you attacked while holding the weapon upside-down, then you'd be poking the enemy with the hilt and slicing the inside of your forearm with the blade. :P

Yes, I had thought about using the bardiche (the style of polearm the iron halberd is), but it doesn't really exactly match the concept art. Plus, I'm not sure what I could use as the blade texture. I was able to use Indoril textures on the warhammer because it was a blunt weapon; the textures aren't really suggestive of any sharp lines that I could use as a proper blade texture.

Told myself I wasn't going to do any Nifskoping today...

I was looking around for resources for scimitars, cutlasses, rapiers, and sabers. I came across the Assassin's Armoury, and there was a scimitar in there that was very cool, but the hilt UV map was way too tricky for me. So I just used the blade, and decided to go for a dwemer scimitar to match the dwemer's rather babylonian appearance in the concept art.

I have deleted a number of posts from this topic that were not only flamebaiting and non-constructive, but very elitist. Members mod for themselves and post the results of their work to show it off and allow others to download and use them if they so wish. Calling a mod 'irritating and lazy' or the mod a 'nightmare' is not acceptable on these boards and if there is any further comments along these lines it will result in, for the poster, unwanted moderator attention.

Great job on the Dwemer weapons, they really look like they fit right in the game. I'm interested in seeing what you come up with next. :goodjob:

Nice texturing! Haven't whistled in appreciation of a weapon for a while - however this sword elicited one :)

Thanks. :)

I tried making a silver saber, but I'm not sure if it turned out so well in the hilt department. There aren't really many silver weapon textures for me to work with. http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/saber_silver.jpg

I also tried adding a few more Imperial weapons. I've only got a handful of textures and two meshes, so I figured I stick with blades, and just mix-n-match the meshes (along with some tweaking and scaling).

I dunno if they turned out okay. Better than that saber, I think.

I think on the longsword, the end is too wide (where it flairs out). It feels like it'd be too heavy at the end, and out of balance. I don't know if swords are supposed to be like that, but it'd look more normal if it didn't get bigger. I think.

The textures are mighty nice, though. I like how the detail lies on the dagger blade.

are these vanilla textures that update with texture replacers or completely new textures?

That's a good point. I was trying to stick with Imperial blade meshes (the longsword blade is just a scaled up version of the shortsword), but I think I'll try hunting around to nab the blade meshes off other swords and see if I can't find something better. :)

@Zobator: vanilla textures that update with texture replacers. :) I'm not talented enough to make new ones. :P

What do you mean? IMO it's better to make them use vanilla textures so they keep up with the quality of the newest replacers. This makes this mod a must have!

Hence the silly :P face. If I was a super-duper texturer (such as connary), then I could probably do something super fantastic and awesome that would blow socks off regardless of whatever texture replacer is being used. But I don't know how to do that, and I doubt I'll ever be able to, so I'm just using the vanilla textures. :P

Okay, new round of me versus the Imperial blades. :P

I used the silver longsword blade and blade base, since using just a single blade mesh produced stretching of the engravings on the imperial blade texture. I also properly scaled the hilt to longsword length. http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/longsword_imperial_v2.jpg. Is this one better, or should I try something different?

I then thought about the Broadsword, and how it doesn't really look like a broadsword. I was looking around in the weapon mesh folder on the CS disc and came across the Iron Broadsword, and decided to use its blade. So, this would be a replacer for the default broadsword: http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/broadsword_imperial_new.jpg. It, too, has its hilt lengthened.

Made a new Wolf helmet using the Netch Helm mesh (which I think is pretty cool/cute). Works with the Snow Wolf textures, too (but I didn't take screens of that).

I never did like those wolf vanilla helms. I wish they were like the Bear helmets, but I dunno how to do that.

The swords look good!

I don't know about the new wolf helmet, though. The mesh (with that texture) almost looks like... some kind of bird helm, I think.

Well, what are your thoughts on the http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/ugly_vanilla.jpg (side view)? :P It looks like a wolf took a crap on a helm.

I think it looks like a wolf crap. Probably why they only wear them up north, gotta keep it frozen for it to do any good. :P

The new one is an improvement. I wonder if you could take the wolf or bear mesh and cut off the bottom jaw, split it and use that. I'm not sure where you'd get a bit like that to paste on... Maybe just the top of the wolf's head (sans bottom jaw) would do the trick?
If you're doing it in NifSkope though, I don't think chopping meshes up like that is possible, is it?

No, I don't think Nifskope can do that. I do have Blender installed, but I haven't the faintest idea how to use it. Really, the only thing I can do is import a .nif successfully. I would love to see a wolf helm in the style of the bear helm, but that's something I, personally, can't do. :(
