[WiPz] Misc. Little Projects

Post » Thu Feb 17, 2011 4:59 pm

GO TO http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1121366-wipz-resource-projects/!!!

I've been working on a bunch of little things that I might release either as stand-alone, and/or incorporate into my larger Balance mods. I wanted to post some pictures of what I've got so far, and I'd appreciate feedback: your thoughts and any suggestions you have are always appreciated.

I love this stuff! Do you know why? Because it looks like it will fit seamlessly into the game. It doesn't stand out, it isn't anime, it's just right. Great work! TR would probably love this stuff too.

(ever figure out any way to improve upon the Bal Molagmer Gloves and Treachery & Deceit) :whisper:

Gloves are my bane. However, I do have some truly black gloves set up - not really fantastic, but they are somewhat usable. However, the underlying problem with glove and gauntlet meshes are those horrible hands - especially the thumbs. There's nothing I can do about that, though.

Additionally, making new gloves is a pain in the butt - I have to do the textures first on the left hand, then on the right hand. Then I have to it all over again to the xxx.1st.nif for the first person view. Then I do it once more for the ground mesh. Sticking with vanilla gloves textures is the only way to stay sane (I don't have to edit the UV map at all) - hence the Sanguine gloves used the daedric gauntlet texture; in fact, all the unique gloves use the gauntlet textures applied to the glove mesh. If I have to edit the UV map, I have to do it five times - which is four times more than my poor little fingers can handle, considering that each glove mesh consists of the finger segment, the thumb segment, the palm segment, and (if applicable) the long cuff (expensive and extravagant gloves).

Bal Molagmar gloves actually already have a unique texture.

@DMKW: Thanks! :D I use vanilla meshes (or I cobble something together using them) and vanilla textures. I'm sort of obsessed with using vanilla textures so that the model will still fit in with whatever texture replacer you use. Although, Conoon's boots uses a BB resource from Silaria/Mandamus.

yes vanilla meshes are a good idea but vanilla textures are huge! You can't lose that way. You really can do endless things with the existing meshes and textures. No real need to do anything else. Your bonemold/netch leather is a perfect example of that. Bonemold mixed with netch? why not? It only makes sense that some armourer out there would have done it eventually! :)

Well, it was more that the netch cuirass style was very adaptable to the bonemold textures (with a little tweaking). I also took inspiration of using that cuirass with Petiboy's mod for a bonemold cuirass; in the vanilla game the regular bonemold cuirass has the same mesh as the Armun-am cuirass. Petiboy's uses custom textures, however, so I wanted to try something that was more flexible with regards to 'standing out' (or, rather, not standing out) when used in conjunction with a texture replacement pack.

There are a great many modder's resource meshes that'd look good in the game, but the UV maps limit what textures I can put on them; it's impossible for me to use a resource that has a composite texture, since MW's vanilla textures are set up to be applied on a mesh in 'segments' - ie, one texture for the hilt of a sword, another texture for the blade, etc. Bethesda started doing these composite textures in TB and BM, which is frustrating, since the bipolar blade mesh is so kickass, I want to put daedric textures on it.

The staff is actually called Staff of Carnal Channeling! :P

But yeah, it looks great! A lot can be done with the original textures and you know how to put them to good use.

About the bone mold armour, I wonder what it would look like if you replaced the black leather with the netch leather texture. So it would look like netch leather with bone mold platting. Just an idea.

Doesn't work like that. If I did that, then it'd be a custom texture and not work with texture replacers. The black leather of the bonemold cuirass is part of the texture.

Had an idea bouncing around, and I've actually started work on it. You know all the scrolls have something written in Daedric on them? Like http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Scrolls. You can see that some of the text doesn't make sense - the "Woe on you" is overused, and there's one that totally makes no sense at all. Well okay, there are a few that don't make sense.

Anyway, page 98 and 99 of Uncle John's Curiously Compelling Bathroom Reader had some toasts and curses (respectively), and that got me thinking of using new blessings and curses of the scroll text. I've tried using google to find these, but since "curse" and "blessing" are really generic, I come up with a bunch of non-relevant hits. I have found about thirty new blessings and thirty new curses - at the least. Not all of them will be perfectly appropriate, and I'm really having trouble with the blessings.

This isn't something I can take a screen shot of, but I'll post what I've got so far:
===============
Curses
===============
May you melt off the earth like snow off the ditch.

May the seven terriers of hell sit on the spool of your briast and bark in at your soul-case.

Rain and fire, ill wind and snow and hard-frost follow you.

May the devil tear you.

May the devil swallow you sideways.

May the devil cut the head off you and make a day's work of your neck.

May fire and brimstone never fail to fall in showers on you.

May you go stone-blind.

Bad luck on you.

May it do you no good, only sorrow.

May the flame be bigger and wider which will go through your soul than the Velothi mountains if they were on fire. << modified to use a mountain range in mainland Morrowind

May god weaken you.

May you be mangled.

May a convulsion strike you.

A poisonous pain in you.

May you fester in your grave.

The curse of your weapons upon you.

I pray for sorrow on your house.

A red stone in your throat.

May harm overtake you.

I bind you by grave injunctions of magic from the river.

May you fall in a nettle patch.

May savage dogs eat you one foot on a mountain.

You should be transformed into a chandelier, to hang by day and to burn by night

May you go nuts and run around.

Sheogorath's breath upon you! << I made this one up

My your blood boil and your mind be fevered. << I made this one up

Black sorrow is all that your mother should see of you.

May an evil decree come upon you.

May your feet be twisted.

God should bless you with three people:
the first should hold you,
the second should kill you,
and the third should bury you!

May Leeches drink you dry.

On summer days he should mourn, and on wintry nights, he should torture himself.

May you weep blood and pus.

The flesh shall rot off you!

Your brain shall spray, and I will gather it in my handkerchief!

Derangement and madness on your mind!

May hound-wounding, heart-ache and vultures gouge your eyes

===============
Blessings
===============
For every wound, a balm.

For every storm, a calm.

May you have Warm words on a cold evening.

May you have a full moon on a dark night.

May you have a smooth road all the way to your door.

Success to the lover.

Honor to the brave.

Health to the sick.

Freedom to the slave.

A sunbeam to warm you.

A moonbeam to charm you.

A sheltering angel, so nothing can harm you.

May the sun shine, all day long,
everything go right, and nothing wrong.

May your heart be as light as a song.

May the road rise to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face.

May the running waves carry you swiftly home.

Deep peace of the running wave to you.

Deep peace of the flowing air to you.

Deep peace of the quiet earth to you.

Deep peace of the shining stars to you.

Deep peace of the infinite peace to you.

May the silver moon make you wiser yet

May the winds of March move you on the road

God's strength to direct me.

God's power to sustain me.

God's wisdom to guide me.

God's vision to light me.

God's ear to my hearing.

God's word to my speaking.

God's hand to uphold me.

God's pathway before me.

God's shield to protect me.

God's legions to save me.

The peace of all things calm.

The place to hide from harm.

The light that shines in dark.

The heart's eternal spark.

The door that's open wide.

May soft winds freshen your spirit.

May sunshine brighten your heart.

May the burdens of the day rest lightly upon you.

May the winds of adversity never blow open your door!

Most of them are Irish or Yiddish, and I've modified a few of them.

If you have any suggestions for curses and/or blessing, let me know - my inspiration has run dry for the moment.

Also, please let me know if you'd prefer I use the pronoun "you, your" or if I should go with more archaic "thou, thy/thine, thee."

There is no "god" or "devil" in Tamriel.
I suggest replacing them with Vivec and Dagoth, or the names of daedra.

Duly noted. Although, some of the original scroll text does have "gods" in it. But, using the names of the Daedra or Tribunal would be more fitting, I agree. I'm still fine-tuning those curses and blessings, so I'll definitely make those changes in my next revision of them. :)

@Mantriel: Thanks. It uses the Umbra mesh, but I applied Ebony textures to it. I would have liked the tip of the blade to be segmented from the rest of the blade, but it is all one texture... so, unlike the other ebony blades, this one appears much smoother since you have a few 'feet' of it using an itty bitty bit of the tx_w_ebony_bladepoint.bmp texture - the same texture the ebony dagger uses. :P Other ebony blades use the tx_w_ebony_blade.bmp texture, and the UV map is such that these texture repeat in a sort of column, giving the overall blade a less smooth appearance.

Well, Dagoth Ur is referred as the 'Devil' numerous times in Temple Texts, though 'Sharmat' sounds better. Just pointing that out :P

Disaster! :shocking:

I put everything together in an .esp to test the bonemold, and http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/bonemold_problems_01.jpg to the lovely mesh! Yes, I set up a new body part, yes it is set as armor and chest. I double-checked the set-up against the netch cuirass, and everything looks the same. What happened to the neck cloth, belt, and other doo-dads?

When you were pasting the extra parts/branches in NifSkope, on what
node did you paste (of the parts were not already attached to the original,
that is)?

When you were pasting the extra parts/branches in NifSkope, on what
node did you paste (of the parts were not already attached to the original,
that is)?

I don't know - I barely know how to use nifskope, and this is my first time playing around with rigged meshes. As far as my memory serves me, the only difference between this and the netch cuirass is that I removed the belt pouches and you removed the little disc thing on the front of the cuirass (again, thank you for that!), and Psymoniser split the chest's UV map into two pieces (front and back). http://www.mediafire.com/?4n2nmgzjkmy, what would I need to change with it in Nifskope?

Nifskope still doesn't have a UV rotation/transformation function? I downloaded the newest version today, but, alas, such a feature does not seem to be there. Might have to bite the bullet and try strong-arming blender and nifscripts onto my PC again.

-snip-

Morrowind is very picky about naming the parts of the Armour that are physiqued. They have to be named in sequence and with no gaps in the sequence

eg:

Tri Chest 0
Tri Chest 1
Tri Chest 2
Tri Chest 3

by deleting the side pouches (named Tri Chest 2) you left a gap in the sequence

eg

Tri Chest 0
Tri Chest 1
Tri Chest 3

The engine won't read any parts after Tri Chest 1 in this case. So all you have to do is rename the parts so there are no gaps. I don't think the order matters just as long as there is no gaps in the numbering.
Hope that helps and makes sense.

:woot: That fixed it, thank you! Hmm, now there's the problem of the unsightly groin mesh, I think I shall have to remedy that post haste with some added armor parts... :hehe:

Okay, I've got another problem. I added something to the cuirass, and I changed the name as you suggested, but it won't show up in the game. :( Also, I had my character equip some other bonemold parts in-game, I noticed that my cuirass was too "bright" compared to them. So, okay, I think I know what to do, I need to make sure the Material property looks like the usual MW set up (the top two triangles are white, the bottom two are black). I checked the Mat Property for the mesh parts (chest, back, belt, etc), and they were all set to white. No problem, I just change the bottom two triangles to black... however, when I set the emissive color (for the chest parts; for the belt, the specular color causes the following problem) to black, the entire thing turns pitch dark. That doesn't look right. Could someone take a look at it in Nifskope or Blender and tell me what is wrong? Is it something that can be fixed in Nifskope? If it has to be done in a mesh editor, would someone kindly do that for me? :cookie: Here's the mesh: http://www.mediafire.com/?zawyrmnmzmn".

To make it have a unique ground mesh, I instead gave the Armun-an cuirass a new ground mesh. The cuirass mesh is almost identical to the Dragonbone cuirass, so I simply used that ground mesh and put on the bonemold textures - perfecto! :D I even figured out how to change the vertex colors, since the dragonbone has them set to a brownish color, and I wanted it to be in shades of grey. I then rotated the thing 180 degress, so that it doesn't "drop" out of the inventory facing away from the player. :) Unfortunately, I wasn't able to paste the groin armor horns onto the ground mesh - I kept getting an error about the mesh losing its parent node or something.
