Miscellanous Quests for a Temple Do-Gooder?

Post » Wed Aug 12, 2009 12:53 pm

I'm playing a sort of vanilla game with http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1141050-character-presentation/page__view__findpost__p__16966792. He's a monkish, healerish guy who doesn't hurt a fly (or would, if everything in Vvardenfell didn't attack you first). Would you guys have any cool quest ideas for him, since he's looking to spend some time away from the Temple and reflect on his life a bit? Basically, do you know of some minor (or larger, for that matter) non-faction quests he might want to be involved in? Maybe there are more than those one-two rumour quests in every town that he's missed? Or how about helping some poor locals somewhere in the wild (preferably in Vvardenfell; I'm asking for this just to level him a bit, as the Temple and Redoran quests are beginning to be out of his league for now :D)?

I'd prefer something different. Every single minor quest seems to be bringing object(s) X to a place Y. If you know of any quests that might be a bit different, please hint about them for Elvar. :) Also remember that they should honor the values of the Tribunal or be otherwise helping, caring and stuff. No killing or stealing!

You might either straightforward inform me of some quests like that or, if you feel especially creative, just hint towards them however you like. ;) Please no "you should just explore youself!" replies - I've done it in 2002-2005 and now I'm just drawing a blank about these quests. And once you recommend something to Elvar, he'll surely explore on his way there! And I'm pretttty sure that the game will, once again, offer me something new as well. :)

There is that guy in the water by Gnisis that needs his pants. IN Ald'Ruhn several merchants are looking for payment. Outside of Ald'Ruhn there is a woman looking for her husband. East of Khuul there is also a person looking for someone. A slave west of the Ebernesium (sp?) camp looking for an escort (I hate that quest). I think there is a researcher near the Muck shrine that is trapped. The White Guar quest north of Vos.

Eh, all I could think of atm.

This is about the best "do good" you can get, although not necessarily the view of the Tribunal:

Yeah well I was about to mention that I'm not doing Twin Lamps with this character. Slavery is an ancient right for him, just like for ancient Greek philosophers and some humble Christians afterwards in real life. :)

Thanks for reminding me about The Wild Guar though! It actually led me to the guar hide quest as well, and I couldn't even remember The Wild Guar as I must have mixed these two. Also, I visited Master Aryon's tower and spoke with Turedus Talanian to get the trade mission quests, which I had forgotten as well. Spent a lot of time in the north-west because of the tip - thanks!

I've done that Ald'Ruhn stuff, but hmm... drawing a blank with that Khuul guy. :P Gonna go see that one next; tomorrow I think.

Keep the quest suggestions coming if you have any! :)

Have you checked out Pax Redoran in the LGNPC project? Lots of extra temple quests there.

Belluelle's silver bowl quest is also a nice do-gooder quest.

Youll find the bowl in a bandit cave west of Pelagiad.

Elvar could help poor Din in the West Gash, the Redguard soldier who had an unfortunate encounter with a slaughterfish.

Never heard of it, but sounds very interesting! Gonna check it out once I/YOU run out of vanilla ideas. :P

Din I've done... I find that guy very sympathetic actually! :D Except that he becomes quite a [censored] once you've actually healed him. Not that thankful. Or maybe it's just me and my lousy Speechcraft (too lousy for a Patriarch-to-be).

Ah, the silver bowl. Haven't done that in a long time, and I don't even remember the exact cave (which is good... might have to avoid some Sixth Housers or stuff... yipes!).

Tinos Drothan also sounds good. Haven't done it... ever, I think.

Thanks again! Keep it up if you can think of anything. Gonna check that Vivec/Pelagiad line for Tinos and the bowl cave and visit Khuul, at least...

By the way, I remember two quests that involve the mark of Zenithar. Are there more?

I really enjoyed the "small tasks" given by the Redoran Vivec priest in LGNPC, but when I did them, they were buggy as all get-out. I believe at least some of this has been fixed in the latest release, so have fun!

Thanks. Possibly going to download it these days, once I play the game next.

I finally played some of your suggestions. I actually started at Khuul and - never found the person east from there. Didn't give much time to the search though. At least I cleared that VERY annoying hostile Ashlander camp to the east though; those guys really put their camp to a place where they could see and rob anyone going east from Khuul.

While heading to Pelagiad I did that Breton-woman-falling-in-love-with-a-bandit thing, then found the Belluelle's Bowl cave and did the quest. At the same time I searched for a trapped researcher in the Fields of Kummu which didn't ring any bell, but immediately when I saw a Bosmer and a Dunmer on the road it dawned to me what quest it was. The Kagouti one. Which I had already done. Well, at least the trip wasn't a waste since I helped the angry trader on the way, as well as escorted a pilgrim to the Fields of Kummu and brought Rollie the Guar's herder to Vivec. I just love those two having their conversations... :D

Finished the Zainab trade quest as well, and solved the Gateway Hunt. I don't know why I acted so much towards Telvanni at this time... I remember making a mental note of not to ask anyone in Sadrith Mora about latest rumour since I knew what was coming and I didn't want to do it this time. And now it's done anyway. I guess I just like my active quests list as clear as possible.

Well I dared to try some severely hardened Temple quests as well, and they actually weren't out of my league if I was well prepared. Stole the St. Something's Something - don't remember what since I have so many of those quests going on atm - back from Ald Sotha by using mainly invicibility and then Recalling my butt out of the place as soon as I'd found them. They were in the worn chest, one that I didn't even notice at first, not in either of those normal chests that were more in the foreground. So felt kinda screwed when my invicibility went off after opening the first out of three chests I had to open to get the boots. Yeah, they were boots alright. Didn't die though; didn't die at all today.

Also killed the necromancer in Mawia. I just tried to watch out for his Greater Bonewalker summon, but it hit my strenght away nonetheless and made me over-encumbered. Luckily I had a restore potion. The guy itself went down easily - I'm beginning to believe in Elvar's combat skills and decent enough weaponry already. He's on level 12 at the moment. I think his relatively easy survival in various bandit caves today was even more surprising. He couldn't have openly break into Ald Sotha though, not even close, but he's getting there I think...

Next time I'm working on my Redoran stronghold a bit more and might check the slave west of Erabenimsun... if I can bother. Why do I think it has something to do with bringing him to either Tel Mora or the Argonian Mission, and it's pain anyways? Like, I should make him waterwalk, levitate or something to do it so that I won't go completely insane with him. We'll see. Likely tomorrow. And if I'm running out of things, I'm checking out Pax Redoran.

Meanwhile, if you still have a neat idea or two, post it or you've completely lost it. ...:ermm:

collect foods for the argonian refugees at the argonian mission in Ebonheart. Bread, cornberries, marshmerrow... bring them food.

explore dwemer ruins collecting dwemer artifacts, tubes, cogs, coins etc... sell them to collecters and donate your earnings to the temple.

explore caves and seek to retrieve magic scrolls... magic scrolls should not be idly left around to fall into the wrong hands.. return them to the temple library for proper safekeeping.

take valuable supplies to the ashlander tribes... things they may find useful, weapons, health potions... things which are hard to come by for nomadic ashlanders.. remember they are tribunal devotees.

enter ancestral tombs and end the suffering of the living dead. All spirits deserve rest in death, not the tormented limbo state skeletons and wraiths are cursed with. Leave a flower at the entrance to honour the spirits you have released.

leave books on the tribunal around town, on bar tables, to random NPC's... someone may just pick it up out of curiosity.

I goof on my directions for this. I just happen to do this quest the other night so I have a better recollection. The guy is west of Khuul. However if you were in Ald;Verlothi and travelled east to the daedric ruins, in there you can find a woman who was kidnapped. She will ask for an escort to her husband (west of Khuul). Just be warned this escort gets really annoying as she gets stuck very easily once out of the ruin's doorway. Save right before you exit the ruins.

Ah, thanks, this more than makes up the screwed east-of-Khuul directions! :)

Have played that Pax Redoran thing for now and it's... Redoran. I haven't looked at any walkthroughs, but I wonder - where are the Temple quests?!

There seems to be much great additional stuff for Redoran though. Those timed quests rule! Lately, though, Elvar's felt serving Redoran too much and wants to devote more of his time to Almsivi again. He might do good, say, helping a kidnapped woman east of Ald Velothi? ;) And tell meh; where are the Temple quests of Pax Redoran? Already read here that a Vivec priest gives many little things to do... spoke to all the priests for nothing (except for "Patriarch" Thorel; he's still behind locks and should remain there!). :( Or maybe I missed something...

Today I did much (Pax) Redoran but also the Redguard quest. It sure seems that Almsivi are testing my patience big time; clearly I haven't been fatefull enough lately. I had MAJOR trouble finding the kidnapped woman's man, that is...

I started at carefully searching the road from Khuul to the ruin. Found no-one. Then I thought, okay, I come back to search the guy once I have rescued his mistress from the ruin.

I used some stealth to safely get to the ruin area, so that Daedra or other powerful hostile beings couldn't detect me - there was a particular Storm Atronach I saw all the time and didn't want to go too close. Also, you know that normally the NPCs outside the ruins aren't hostile even though those inside are. Well, this one didn't seem to be any different - a Redguard healer. Didn't attack me. Perfectly normal. Nothing special on that. I didn't enter the ruin yet after all since I noticed an alternative passage. Went in through there.

I was pleasantly surprised to find myself a level above all the hostile NPCs. The Orc that spotted me first couldn't do anything and, thus getting extremely angry, being an Orc and all, he clearly couldn't help but go berzerk and - execute a suicide jump into lava. Okay...

There were two left, I guess. I got to an angle I could fire a surprise lighting spell to the other of the remaining Orcs. I had to levivate down soon enough to kill her though. It went pretty easily. The third Orc - IIRC - didn't even notice me during the battle. I was safe from the second Orc all the time standing on the pedestal of Molag Bal's statue so I didn't have to move. Once I had slayed the second I easily disposed of the third one as well. I randomly chose a way to continue and soon found myself in the Sunken Vaults.

So I thought the imprisoned woman was in the bottom. But no - there was only http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Gordol. Luckily I saw him when I still had the high ground, so I approached carefully. Him being on a high level was a disadvantage for him in this case, since he noticed me when I was still far away of course showed his hostility. I avoided his Bonewalker summon (he didn't seem to have any ranged Destruction magic) and used many Greater Shockballs to finally kill him without being hit at all. Turned out there was a book in his lair I had never even seen before, and other pretty good stuff as well - mostly his Ebony/Daedric armor. And now that I checked UESPWiki I see he's on my house's to-kill list as well. Or was. I've done something beforehand now. Yeah... but couldn't find the woman from the bottom, either.

Getting back up to the actual shrine I noticed a key on the table. Thought of I had used an opening spell on the vault door for nothing, but then noticed the other locked door. And there she was in the back of the longish walkway. Now that I had found her it was a peace of cake to finish the quest, I thought. Boy was I wrong...

Voxxjin mentioned the woman could get stuck on the ruins, but miraculously she didn't. Everything else went horribly wrong though. Still searched and couldn't find the guy anywhere. I thought maybe the nearby Ashlander savages had taken him. Yes. That must've been it. Killed the two outside relatively easy and then stuffed myself into the local Ashkhan's tent. That battle was pretty odd. Neither of us did nearly any damage to each other. Luckily I had that hand-to-hand Redguard lady fighting next to me though. I finally disposed of the leader with arguably my best weapon, a self-made Absorb Health on Touch spell, which made much more impact than any of my melee weapons. (I.e. killed him instantly...) There was no black man in the tent, either, though, so the search went on.

He was absolutely nowhere on sight! Maybe in the nearby eggmine? Why would he go there? Except that the wifey had feared the Orc cultists at the shrine might get him as well - so maybe he went anywhere into hiding? Like in the eggmine. Went there. The woman got major stuck, of course, so reload, "Stay there!" and try again. I continued on - then I got attacked?! In the eggmine? By some random NPCs, that is! Whaa-? I actually ran back outside. :D

So clearly the missing husband wasn't in the Khuul - ruin axel, so I extended my search a bit. Still nothing. Only an area full of Nix-Hounds that attacked me. Those blighted ones were pretty bad. As I had decided with the eggmine, I decided the guy couldn't be further there in the Nix territory - "east of the ruin" couldn't mean that much to the east.

Went to a nearby ancestral tomb, again thinking the guy might've used it as a shelter from those sick n' twisted Orcs. Got attacked by some undead, of course. No-one there though, I started to think of giving up and looking from the UESPWiki. Just then I remembered something. It was so clear all along! I wanted to kick myself from not remembering it any sooner. There was that Redguard healer guy just outside the ruin... So, I went back there. I had completely forgotten the Storm Atronach, who at my absence had moved to a more strategic place - clearly on purpose! :verymad: It ambushed me and I went HOLYJUMPINGMONKEYSDUDEICANTBEATIT! Actually I could though; it seems I underestimate Elvar's battle skills time and time again. It took one Exclusive Restore Health potion though.

After the Atronach the way was clear; I could already see the Redguard. He saw me as well - and... attacked?! Why wasn't I even surprised after all... I just thought, "Woah, okay, not your man, I presume?" and stroke him down after a bit of battling. Once the man had attacked me I realised right off the bat why he attacked me this time even though not originally - I was under a powerful Chameleon spell's effect the first time I spoke to him.

So, on to some more searching! :woot: Soooo phunny! Surprisingly without much more drama I decided to venture deeper into the aforementioned Nix-Hound-covered lands - and there he stood behind the bushes. I didn't even bother to quicksave anymore - it must've been him. And it was. http://www.uesp.net/maps/mwmap/mwmap.shtml?centeron=Sason as I'd been told! Voxxjin! :swear:

So, other than spending a day or two gametime (and basically an evening in real life) just searching for the girl and especially the guy, and getting attacked by a random Redguard guy, a Storm Atronach, folks from an ancestral tomb, some eggmine guys who were definitely not miners, and a lot of general wildlife, I got the quest done. Clearly it was so hard this time around because I haven't devoted enough time to serving the Tribunal. This was a sign, a warning. A punishment of sorts for my infidelity. And I shall heed thy will, my precious God-Kings, for the next time I'll pledge my no-life to You!

(And I'm glad to do so since otherwise I should get a heck of a lot of supplies to the Redoran-took stronghold Marandus. Just not for now. I even Marked the place just to help with my future encumbrance problems and iffy traveling connections to there, and sensing I'll still have to keep coming back there a lot. But I'm still not feeling good with buying them some hammers, shields, arrows and stuff. Some lighter Temple stuff all the way, yay!)

Phew, this one went on pretty long... o_O If you guys still have some ideas for cool quests, keep them coming! This Redguard one sure was entertaining...

'Redoran' and 'Redguard' seem to be faaaar too similar words for me to tell apart. :I

*Obi-wan voice* They're not the priests you're looking for. The Pax Redoran quest-giving priest is in the Redoran Canton. Check the Plaza level, IIRC.

Oh, and let me guess...Elvar is the *real* Saronyi behind "Saronyi's Sermons", right?

Mmmyeah, that was the plan. Did you check out that character introduction topic I link in the starting post of this thread?

Pretty lame plotting now if you ask me. Part of it kinda works but mostly... nah. :P

*Elvar's own voice, although bit more monotonic than usual* They're not the priests I'm looking for. @_@

Redoran Canton. Check.

Sorry I swear he was west or SW of Khuul. :blush2: I just checked UESP and it says the guy is SE or so from Khuul. But glad you found him. While in the ruins did you happen to levitate to the upper parts in the room with the ebony armor guy?

That's okay, it only made the quest more interesting. And yet, somehow, more frustrating at the same time... :D At least this was a very memorable quest for me as I got too much time spent on it... Besides, you were right originally; he was kinda east-ish from Khuul after all. I didn't just look for him enough the first time.

Yeah, I looked up and saw there might be something on the no-access upper level. And there was a chest. Don't even remember what was inside of it! The Ebony/Daedric guy's armor and the Bero Speech book were the loot I particularly remember. :)

The last time I've talked to ann ashlander, he cursed ALMSIVI, or the false gods. Also, most spirits in ancestral tombs are raised to protect the tomb, and then some grave digger comes to kill them all, thinking he does a 'good' thing. Vampires are not nice, though.

Yes, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Ashlanders.

Otherwise I'd ignored commenting on Do'tirath's post - sorry for that! I think most of the ideas are very good, and I shall be doing those if I ever run out of these cool (side)quests. Or maybe doing some work anyways. Once I get some books that don't feel stolen in any way, I might spread them around, yes. In the same vain I could also go spreading Elvar's religion with trying my Speechcraft on non-Temple people. Also, storing dangerous scrolls somewhere in the temple seems a very Elvarish thing to do. :P How about I open that locked door in Gnisis (was it?) Temple just to make sure it would be a good place for these scrolls and documents? Thus I wouldn't be breaking in. Kind of.

Haven't played for a while now. I'm having a feeling this is turning into some kind of an interactive diary where you can pretty much tell me what my temple devotee should play, and I'll play it if it sounds good. And I'm actually looking forward telling about Elvar's adventures here every time I have played him! Hearing some other people suggesting ideas and then me playing them has been the most fun I've had with Morrowind... ever? :)

One of the things I tend to do is collect all the 6th house stuff: amulets, statues, hammers, corpus meat, etc and lock them away some place safe. Gives you a reason to go find all the 6th house bases and such.

I don't think Elvar taking matters to his own hands and declaring open war to the 6th House is a very Temple preacher type of thing to do. At least for now he would be violating some Temple code or something, since he's still only a Disciple. Later, perhaps, when he is nearing his Archcanonship. Wouldn't it still be more credible if the Temple only waged war with words, thoughts and warnings, and still hid away in their chambers? :P

Guess something left unanswered in my previous post too... the skeleton Voxxjin mentioned. Nope, I don't remember it. I'll go back there at some point though - I left most of Gordol's armor behind as well (removed it off his body though to make them remain there once the body is gone). I'll look for the skeleton for the next time. Although Elvar feels it's wrong to touch those things. He also has issues in stripping a dead man off his armor, but sometimes resisting earthly profit can be incredibly hard. :(

Didn't find the quest-giving priest even from the Redoran compound. Nor are there any Temple quests described in the Pax Redoran walkthrough. I found those from LGNPC Vivec Redoran walkthrough though, so you must've meant it all along. I will download that mod too if LGNPC.org comes back online.

Just played a little. Delivered the Shishi Report to Theldyn Virith. I remembered turning the Breton Skull on the table that led me to the last Telvanni of the place. I also took the credit from Theldyn's last quest which I had already done: killing Gordol. I finally got a good spear from him and trained my spear skill a bit with some mudcrabs - and another Storm Atronach which was painful. This one attacked me outside Ald Sotha where I was searching for Roland's Tears for Aurane Frernis. Did both her quests today too, that is. That's about it.

Keep your ideas coming!

I've been playing Pax Redoran and Vivec Redoran mods a bit now. Got the Saren heir thing done finally, which I think was the reason I couldn't get the next small task from the Redoran Canton priest. It was the rat thing where that jobless guy once again got some good things done to him. Helping him time and time again really gave a nice warm glow inside of this now a Temple Diviner. :)

Now I think I'm stuck in the Vivec Redoran part of the mod though. The next goal was to find a lost spirit from the Redoran Ancestor Tomb. Well, I went there already, opened all the doors and killed everything - even that Lost Spirit I had never seen before but thought, eh, what the heck. I don't think there's a way to return that spirit there...?

There also seems to be much to play in Pax Redoran. If I won't hear from you, I'll might continue searching what's in there. Some of the quests this far have been so good I even get confused what's in the original game and what's not. - If the quest is long and good, I tend to think it's the mod's... :D For example, I absolutely loved how the Drinar Varyon (the pot guy in Ald'Ruhn) quest lasted and lasted and intertwined perfectly into actual vanilla Redoran quests! It was very lore-friendly too!

It'd be great if people still got me some vanilla suggestions to do some good. Or why not even ideas for new general aid / serving Almsivi stuff mods. I'll need moar quests! Although at Saren Ancestral Tomb, I slayed a Hunger, a Frost Atronach and a freakin' Dremora Lord almost at the same time! It was pain in the rear end though. Luckily I made the Dremora Lord lost a few times, and sent some Ancestor Ghost summons after it just to win me some time. So, if I won't hear any good suggestions in a few days time, I think I'll have what it takes attend to those Temple quests I thought were too hard for me originally. That would mean: Ihinipalit, Hassour and Tureynulal, here I come! o/
