Well he died during FO1, and came back in FO2 in a random encounter where he shows up with other characters that died during FO1 in a cafe. The one in FO3 was a legacy character, and not the 'real' Dogmeat.

And I preferred K-9 in FO2, and Rex in New Vegas. Normal dogs are boring.

Dogmeat in Fallout got killed by a forcefield, Dogmeat in Fallout 2 is an easter egg companion, Fallout 3's dogmeat is a throwback reference to Fallout.

I honestly thought that in Wild Wasteland, he would have been an easter egg companion but I was sad at the loss... He just became a fan service, so maybe it's for the best.

Only thing that is somewhat arguable about that journal is Ian's death. He was planned to appear in Fallout 2 but never did.

I figure there would have been if Van Buren was made, but alas there is not one.

FO3's Dogmeat is a descendant of FO1's Dogmeat. Not to mention the original Fallout takes place in the year 2161 while Fallout 3 takes place in the year 2277.

Nope, closest thing you're ever going to get to Chosen One journal is Marcus in Jacobstown. Vault Dweller's journal was in the Fallout 2's manual and as the stories of Fallout 3 and New Vegas aren't relevant with Chosen One there was no need for one.

Harold is a unfortunate mistake by Bethesda. They probably shouldn't have ever got their hands on the Van Buren design documents and get carried away by them turning it to something ugly like Oasis

Yeah oasis was a terrible idea, I might be in the minority of fallout fans in that I actually like fallout 3 but it was a mistake.
