A missed opportunity for the Forged?

So I finally found myself in the Saugus Iron Works the other day and got myself involved with the quest with the raiders there who call themselves the Forged. I thought it was a neat enough idea for a raider gang and it was quite funny going through the terminal seeing how many people the ring leader "fed to the forge" and I liked that nice little climix in the end where you're seeing the farmer's son go through with this ultimatum. But I feel this was a missed opportunity to have added something better to this quest and location than just some pyromaniacs.

I felt this could have been the perfect time to actually bring up raiders from the Pitt and make their appearance in the Commonwealth. It's said this group of raiders have only just moved into the area and are recruiting so I think that would have been a good enough indication that these raiders are from elsewhere. They seemed to have given the farmer's son the impression they were going to be raiding outside the Commonwealth as well, as if they were from outside the Commonwealth.

On top of that, well, look at the location they moved into. If that doesn't remind someone of the Pitt then I don't know what does. I know it's not a steel works, but I'm sure some reason could have been made as to why they were interested in that location than just the "they like fire" reason the Forged has.

Lastly, these raiders felt more well-equipped than most raiders with just about all of them wearing cage armor and their leader being in a suit of power armor. I know there are random gangs of raiders out in the Commonwealth that can use power armor anyway, but I felt this could have been a nice way to make out that Ashur had trained some of his raiders in using power armor and those in power armor were some of his more elite raiders in his ranks.

Had all of this been done to have the Pitt raiders in place of the Forged, it would have been a great time to tell us more about what has been going on in the Pitt in the last ten years. The Forged leader had already logged entries in one of the terminals, and this could have been the same if they were from the Pitt and they had logged journal entries of their time in the Pitt and their journey to the Commonwealth.

The Pitt was probably my most favorite thing added to the Fallout universe from Fallout 3, and among one of my favorite settings in the series. I am always wanting to see and hear more from them.

Probably an oversight really. Or they may no feel they need to expand out of Philly.

Also, I forgot to take into consideration that since the Pitt could have different endings based off of player action. So maybe the whole Ashur training his raiders might not make sense if Wernher were in charge of the Pitt if that were the outcome. That could be a reason to avoid telling us more about the Pitt since its future is based on the player's choice in Fallout 3. Of course, in a ten year time frame, they could have just made it out that Ashur/Wernher just kicked the bucket anyway somehow and someone else was in charge.

Or just make Ashur's ending the canon one because he was the coolest thing about the Pitt. :disguise:

If I remember the very heated debates about The Pitts endings......some might disagree.

Another thing that's kind of annoying about that faction is that area can respawn if you get new quests to go there. This leads to a " Forged leader' respawning as well. A supposedly tough and unique character becomes nothing more than a respawn enemy. Also, many misc and side quests seem to use this spot in their catelogue of random places to send you. I have now been there three times just to end up having to kill that same guy and his cronies over again. This really makes no sense if you've already had the conversation with the leader and learned who the Forged are. .

Yeah the Pitt was the first thing that came to mind with me too. And it's true that they could be actually from the Pitt, comparing appearances and reading logs.

The look of the Corvega factory & reflecting back how they chased the Minuteman caravan all the way to concord reminded me of the Pitt a bit aswell. Having a base in a factory, having a mutation problem in their basemant & the general "massive" look of the factory looked a bit like the steelyard.

But I also think that these amongst a couple of other things were elements taken from previous games just because they were so good & people liked it back then so they extended this path. But doesn't necessarily mean they will do more with this through DLC.

Well you don't know that. They made the BOS a thing in F4 even you could nuke'em in a F3 DLC.

In general though they could pull it off nonetheless:

A) If sided with Ashur: well he send them out to recruit people. Didn't Ashur talk about this too, that he needed more raiders?

B) If didn't side with Ashur:

- They could've been send before Ashur got killed and then decided after knowing what happpened to the Pitt, migrate elsewhere like they did. They could even go back to raid the CW since they hint at raiding far away.

- Even after the LW influenced the Pitt against Ashur, it doesn't mean it became a magical happy fun place in one day, so it might've fallen in disarray and created a splinter group named "the forged". The BOS Outcasts were basically the same.

Yep. They should've really scripted their stuff better. I visited Corvega, Saugus & National Training Yard each x3 or something. Meanwhile I'm exploring most of the Commonwealth on my own & from dialogues/terminals that add unexplored map markers.

Especially since it's about the Minutemen half of the time, the quests from settlements should've been ordered a bit more decent so you would backtrack what happened to the remnants of the Minutemen when they crossed Boston. As there are leftovers of the story which took place between the escape from Quincy & the arrival at Concord.

What is also a friggen headache though. Is that the loot is way underleveled, not sure if it is because of this re-visiting, or it is made so that it's locked by location for everyone from day1.
