Missing "fonts" folder!

Post » Thu Feb 27, 2014 1:10 am

Hi guys. I'm trying to edit the default font for my own purposes, but the "fonts" folder in Oblivion/Data is missing! I've tried reinstalling the game, installing various mods, enabling hidden folders and so on, to no avail. I've seen everyone else has this folder except me, so what am I doing wrong? Help, please!

I don't know where your missing fonts are, but I looked and I don't have that folder either, and my game works normally.

The only reason there would be a fonts folder is if a mod added the font to the game. This is the case with most UI mods.

Also, most font changes are made in the ini or prefs files, I think. At least to change sizes and to select a different installed font. It has been a while since I installed a UI mod on Oblivion.

Thanks for the info guys. But then, where are the default fonts located? In compressed files, maybe? They've got to be somewhere. I've seen the .ini file and it says they are located in data/fonts folder.

The "default fonts" are obviously part of the game itself. The font path given in the INI would be there for the use of replacement (mod) fonts.

Then they are compressed. Either way, how do I find them?

It does not follow that they are "compressed," or that you can "find them," short of reverse-engineering the game.

Interesting. So there's no way to recover these fonts?

If you're looking for the Daedric Alphabet, you can find it http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Daedric_Alphabet. If you're looking for the UI font, I have no idea.

Oblivion's Fonts folder is located inside the "Oblivion - Misc.bsa" file. You will need to use a third-party utility like http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/3117/? to extract the files before you can work with them.

I assumed there had to be some way to get them out, since the game is so easily moddable. Thanks!

Now the only thing I have to do is open the .fnt files. Anyone know how?

You'll need yet another program for that. http://fontforge.org/ is a popular choice.
