Missing Meshes In Better Cities

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 4:11 pm

I installed the Weather - All Natural mod earilier in the game. I didn't really explore any cities/towns except the Imperial City and Bruma, but I didn't notice any giant yellow stars indicating missing meshes. I also chose to use the Real Lights addition included in the mod. The last mod I added was Better Cities (the full version) and the resources it needs to run properly. As I entered Skingrad (the first town I entered since adding BC), I noticed a bunch of missing meshes (see screenshot), some of them floating in mid-air. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the BC Permanant Resources OMOD but this didn't work. I initially had my OBMM archive invalidation set to BSA redirection then switched to the BSA alteration option and checked off all options. I still see missing meshes. My only guess is that maybe installing BC AFTER Real Lights has caused some meshes to disappear, but i'm not quite sure. I have installed BC in previous games with no problems. I'm sure it's a simple fix. Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Not to mention in Skingrad at least, there seem to be doors where there's no buildings and plants floating in the air: http://i39.tinypic.com/oqyt21.jpg

I've since uninstalled Better Cities. Maybe it just takes a reinstall and everything will be fine. I'll wait to see if I get any suggestions on what the problem could have been.

First off, check that you really did install Better Cities correctly. A number of people who have issues with missing Better Cities meshes often didn't correctly install the mod.

However, if the installation was correct, how many files are in your Data folder (excluding loose resources)? You might be nearing the limit on BSAs, ESMs, and ESPs you can have in there.

Consider setting Bash up to auto-ghost any mods that aren't actively loaded and if all else fails, trim down your load order or use Gecko to merge smaller mods together.

I've definitely had many more mods than what i currently have and everything worked fine. I have it set to auto-ghost and have from the beginning of the game. I'm thinking I somehow didn't install BC correctly. it seems pretty easy to install, so it could have just been a bad installation. I'll give it another shot soon and hope for the best.

You mentioned reinstalling the BC permanent resources archive, but no mention of the resource update archive. Perhaps you forgot to install it? From your first screenshot I believe one of the missing meshes is the sign for the Gold Horse Couriers (if I correctly guessed your location) but I'm not sure what the other missing mesh might be. The second screenshot however shows an entire building missing (and no sign of a missing mesh symbol) which I don't believe is related to BC at all. That's a vanilla-placed building which BC doesn't touch, so I would suggest that something else has removed it.

Also, don't use BSA Alteration. That method is severely flawed. Redirection is safe. Set that up, and you're fine as far as that goes. If you have missing meshes when using Redirection, it's because they really are missing.

In which case either a failed install, or they're not from BC, as we don't have any missing meshes :)

@ display: You mentioned there were resource updates. I only noticed one resource file to download on the BC page. Did I miss an update somewhere?

The missing building seemed to vanish when I uninstalled BC. Not sure what mod that came from. Where Morrowind allows you to hit the ~ key and type 'ORI' to find the origin of an object, NPCs, etc., does Oblivion have a similar command?

Not natively. Usually the best you can do in vanilla is to open the console and click on something that's suspect. You'll get the formID which you can then use to identify the mod it should be coming from. You'd need something like Refscope or FormID Finder to do anything more detailed within the game.

It is currently labeled Better Cities Resources 5-0-0, this is the resource archive that is updated regularly (permanent resources is no longer updated often to help minimize download times for major updates). It's in the main files section. Everything in the main files section is a required download.

Considering I thought BC 5.0.0 was an older version of the resources and didn't download it, that is most likely the problem. I'm going to install everything right now.

So, you didn't read the installation instructions which clearly spell out what is required and how to install them (three different ways to install offered), and you didn't read the word REQUIRED printed underneath the three required archives on the download page?
If you don't bother to read a mod's readme and installation instructions, don't start complaining when things don't work in-game.

I wasn't really "complaining". Simply looking for help. But all that aside, thank you so much for being a good sport and, last but certainly not least, your valuable assistance.
