Missing Oblivion

Post » Fri Oct 04, 2013 12:38 am

Hey,

Is anyone else missing the oblivion days like me? I have tried Skyrim. But it just isnt the same.. It has lost its spirit. I especially loved modding for oblivion. Is it true that oblivion pretty much died down now?

As far as I'm concerned the "Oblivion days" have never gone away. :)

Nope. Oblivion never dies. In fact, thanks to Skyrim it has gained even more fans much like Morrowind did when Oblivion was new. At least this is my impression. Older games tend to get more attention when new games in the series come out so I′ll suspect Skyrim will get more players when TES VI comes out

Oblivion hasn't died down one bit for me. My character happily goes to work in Cyrodiil every day, as she has been doing for years. :twirl:

What do you mean by: "Died"?

I have never understood this expression, when it comes to offline games like Obivion. Sure in online terms it means that population on servers is very very low or none at all, which hinders your experience. But in oblivion? You mean like no-one plays it? Well i am sure that you can say that right now in this moment somewhere on this planet someone is playing Arena, it may as well be developer of TES series looking for inspiration or die hard fan..... and surey ppl play Oblivion (you are looking at one). You mean modding community don't publish anymore? Well Nexus page says: nope everyday at least one new mod.

And why should you care anyway?

reapaz1 - Just noticed your join date. Welcome to the forum! :icecream:

Some Oblivion folks have moved on. Some have remained completely enthralled by the game to the exclusion of other games (like me) and some simply keep this wonderful game in their rotation among other wonderful games. It's all good. If you are looking to spend more time in Cyrodiil, you'll find the OB forums to be a fun little community. The OB mod forum folks can help catch you up on some of the great developments there since you were modding.

I just miss playing it with someone. Would it really be so hard to make a mod so that people can play together? Like the elder scrolls online, but then oblivion online. : )

I understand your frustration. Pseron and I live on opposite sides of the US and we have come up with an alternative way to play. We both keep second computers next to our main computers so that we can send instant messages. Once or twice a week we arrange to play the same game at the same time. We go through the same dungeons, do the same quests, and send instant messages back and forth about what each of us is doing. It's not exactly co-op, but it's the next best thing. I feel that single-player games can get a little lonely at times. And being able to share our gaming experiences with another person can make the games feel less like an isolated experience.

I do think, in some senses, the past few years have seen a decline in the activity around Oblivion. I think a few of the "Old guys" have moved on, either to Skyrim or other things. I don't think theres a point in pretending that. However, the game has certainly been well - preserved and I would say alive. Some of us, rather than Shelly's idea, use the Cu thread to communicate our worlds. Such as I and Lopov in a recent update I wrote up. :icecream:

Doesn't skype / raidcall things work perfectly fine with oblivion?? I belive you don't have to have 2 PC's etc.... just join call and you can communicate with friend just fine.

There were some multiplayer / online mods, but they were never really working.

The game wasn't designed for multiplayer. But if we all had Microphones it could work, in a loose sort of way. Imagine how conversation would go.

"Rumours"

"Well, I heard that they were having problems with next door! Did you hear about them getting together! Ow I bet there going to be trouble...."

"Ya ya ya, totes heard it on mu phone, am going to get sprytn m8 ;D x"

XD

No no, I think we would all end up...I dunno. I imagine it would be "High - end" levellers at one end, and us noobs hiding in the woods at the other end . I can see some sort of war beginning.

If I could wish for one thing around technology, I can honestly say it would be, just for one day, we could all exist in one world, one cyrodill. It could be nasty, but I don't think so. I can just imagine visiting Lothan in his Bruma home, sweetrolls and a cup of tea waiting by the fire in the grate. And by the gods if Martha got wind Raven was in prison she become the Iron Maiden :starwars: (Guards wouldn't stand a chance)

Morrowind is still alive so why wouldn't Oblivion be?

On an unrelated note:

I recently made a brilliant mod for it that is the sole reason the game is still alive http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/44158/? :P
