I'm missing one texture, how is it called?

Post » Sat Oct 30, 2010 2:53 am

Hello dear people, I want my texture back! I use photorealistic replacer, mostly connary's and since my new installation of mw there is one texture missing. It's the "greener grass" at the ascadian isles. can you please tell me how it is called, so I can search for it? thank you.

specification is given http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae224/mwscreen/missing.jpg.

ps: it is not clover_02 and grass_01 these textures are in the folder.

Do you want to try an experiment?

I have uploaded a directory of textures here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/1l5kkd
where all the textures in my Data Files/Textures have been replaced by white textures that have the name of the texture written on them.
It allows me to easily identify what textures are being used.

I use these textures by first moving my real textures to a save place: "Data Files/Textures" --> "Data Files/Textures.orig"
Then I put these named textures in their place, and start Morrowind. Everything looks horrible, but you can see the names of the textures written on the textures themselves.

Anyway, it works for me, so it might work for you.

Also, that archive is full of named textures for all sorts of mods I have experimented with, so it probably has all kinds of textures you would not have, and it may be missing textures that you have that I do not. You might have to install these named textures on top of a copy of your current textures.

The most important thing is that if you do try this stuff, please make double sure you have a proper backup of your current textures and know how to restore them after the experiment is over :)

ok i can try that. i have 23,000 files (your folder contains 8,000) but i only need the tx_ ones. so it should be possible to do that under 6 hours of copying.

it's a very nice idea btw. very good. i also can leave out the weapon and armor texes... yes by thinking any longer of it, i will try. thanks :)

If I hazard a guess I'd say that's tx_rockyscrub_01 or _land_default. Otherwise try tx_scrubplain_01.

NB - the texture size of land_default should not be greater than 256*256; otherwise the minimap will no longer function properly.

thanks mr. moonsugar and mr. swiveller :) *bows in both directions*

first, mr. moonsugar, your tool is worth a pile of gold :D I'll surely keep it for future questions like that.

mr. swiveller, without your tip of _land_default i would need far more time to find the answer.

look at http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc288/SisterV/texture2.jpg!

*kisses cheeks of both*

thanks guys :)

You're welcome. :)

I like the screenshot - the textures make the scene look as if it's made out of folded paper.

That is one nifty trick JM! Have you considered uploading it to a permanent site as a resource? It would make a nice tool for figuring out what other people used and make matching a breeze. :D

I didn't invent it. Saw the idea in another forum denizen's post (wasn't it an April fools by Skydye? My memory is failing)

Sure. But it would be better if I could release the tool that generates the textures rather than the textures themselves. But the script I wrote to do it runs only on Linux. What I'm thinking of doing is seeing if I can get the stuff together that I would need to run it on Windows. It requires an external program to actually create and compress the textures. I'll see what I can do.
