Missing potion textures

After one too many crashes, I finally buckled down, wiped my Oblivion and reinstalled in FCOM-suggested order. It seemed to have helped with FPS (though stability is still wonky, but I expect that's just 32-bit system memory limitations. I hadn't applied the patch during my testing), but one thing that's odd is that the "drink mug" animation now just has a pink bottle and a lot of the other potion textures/meshes are missing as well. I hadn't had a problem with missing textures at all in my old installation, so I'm baffled as to what the problem could be.

I checked through the installers tab under missing and none of the mods have anything obviously missing that could explain it. The only difference this time is that A) I installed in FCOM order and B) Last time I started with OOO 1.3, patched to 1.31, patched to 1.32, etc up to 1.34b5, and same with MMM, whereas this time I started with OOO 1.33 and MMM 3.7b3 (well, and I switched Enhanced Weather out in favor of All Natural, but that doesn't strike me as likely). Could that make a difference?

OOO says it installed a bunch of potion files under the textures(meshes)/clutter/RCpotions directory, and I checked and all of the files are there. It's the lack of mugs for people drinking in taverns that's really confusing me. I've tried a couple potion replacers as a bandaid solution, but none of them replace the drinking mugs.

I realize that's not much to go on, but if anyone has an idea I'd appreciate it. :)

Mods for Troubleshooting - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=troubleshooting_mods <-- Grab one of these guys so that you no longer have to guess about which plugin owns missing resources.

Anyway, uninstall OOO, completely, and grab the OOO 1.33 complete archive from PES. (This file is OMOD-Ready.) Install that, and then install OOO 1.34b5 on top of it.


Edit: After reinstalling OOO, either reinstall MMM or grab a file redating utility to redate MMM's BSA to a more current date.

I made a mistake in my previous post--I started with OOO 1.33 this time and did a BAIN install. I did notice something else during troubleshooting as well. The missing potion textures aren't random--it's only player-made potions that have no texture, including newly-made potions with my current mod list. I'm not sure if the pink texture is standard for those. Refscope gives me "Defined in Player Save Game" when I look at them. On the subject of the drinking mug, Refscope doesn't seem to be able to tell me that a mesh is missing from an in-progress animation (at least, not that I can see--it doesn't show up in equipment).

Checking the MMM BSA and the Francesco's BSA with the redater utility shows that they're dated with yesterday's date.

OOO 1.33 and 1.34b5 have been reinstalled. Checking the BAIN tabs shows nothing missing or mismatched and the only conflicts are in the meteoric Ayleid weaponry (well, and the OOO esp and esm), which is also in COBL and Frostcrag Reborn. Let's see what that did...

...it made no difference, it seems. All the various in-world mug and alcohol clutter has the proper paths, but it's still a pink bottle when an NPC does the drinking animation.

Hmm...the MMM BSA is FCOM_Convergence - MMM.bsa and the Francesco's BSA is FCOM_Convergence_FraNewItems.bsa. Would that underscore vs. hyphen makea a difference?

Don't think so, but I'd rename MMM.bsa to FCOM_Convergence_MartsMonsterMod.bsa, as that is known to work. No reason unnecessarily experimenting with the names IMO. Anyway, none of those should affect this issue.

Personally, I think this is a perfect example why one shouldn't start out with a gazillion mods when reinstalling. First, make sure you're running BSA redirection. If that doesn't help, try loading the game with just the core FCOM mods and see if the issue persists. If it does we'll know the issue is with the OOO install - if not, we'll know the issue is with something else.

BSA redirection is on, and switching to a FCOM-only setup does not eliminate the problem.

Sorry for the long delay. It always seems to take forever to rebuild bashed patches for me.

Then it definitely seems to be connected to an issue with the OOO install. You could ensure this by loading a game with just OOO - but I can't see any other FCOM mod that would affect this. Did you use the EXE version of 1.33? It's known to cause issues with Vista. See http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1108040-relz-oscuros-oblivion-overhaul-133/ in the OOO OP.

I did not--I installed it and the 1.34b5 patch with Wrye Bash. Bash shows the following as properly matched:

Not sure what might be up then really. Correctly installed, the potion meshes/textures should work fine with OOO 1.33. Never heard of that issue.

EDIT: Just checked the booze nifs and they point to textures in: textures\clutter\Newbarset.

I'd recommend installing incrementally. Start a new game with a patched Oblivion and see if it works. Add OOO and see if it works. Add the core FCOM mods and check. Then add other mods while checking for issues/performance.

Well, though my companion mods and no problems yet so far (following http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/walkthroughs/baininstallguide/organize generally). Next Quest mods, then Francesco's, then OOO. No problems so far (except for cringing at the un-Darnified interface).

Is there a way to unpack pre-made OMODs for BAIN installation (thinking of Kragenir's Death Quest specifically)? Google found me http://timeslip.chorrol.com/obmmm/main.htm in another thread, but it's down and even the wayback machine won't pull it up.

Edit: Oh, hey, "Convert to archive." That was easier than I thought. :facepalm:

Okay.

With various utility bits (refscope, more hotkeys, nGCD, Progress, uncapper addons), companion mods, DLC, unofficial patches, quest mods, Frans and OOO, it works. As soon as I add the rest of FCOM and Bash it together, I get the pink potions again instead of mugs when NPCs are drinking.

Why don't start out with the core, i.e. OOO and the core FCOM mods instead? Seems kind of backwards if you ask me as you basically end up with problems trouble shooting it because of so many mods. You're basically back where you started. If you had checked with only OOO installed you would know if its caused by the install of that.

I've been checking as I went along every 3 or 4 added mods.

With various utility bits (refscope, more hotkeys, nGCD, Progress, uncapper addons), companion mods, DLC, unofficial patches, quest mods, Frans and OOO, it works.


You can read that with "it works" after every comma, because I stopped and checked each time.

NPCs drinking works fine after OOO, but after adding MMM, Bob's Armory, Warcry, FCOM and Bashing it, it does not.

You are correct.

Edit edit edit: Everything under the potion tab is drawing its data from OOO except Elixirs of Exploration, and those are still getting their meshes and textures from OOO. The potions tab doesn't have any beer in it at all. Misc Item also doesn't have any beer or mugs in it.

Checking Oblivion.esm's potions tab shows that Ale, Mead and Beer are properly overridden by OOO with nothing else affecting them. Pewter mugs, clay tankards, etc., under the "Misc Item" tab are properly attributed--which makes sense, since they show up fine when they're clutter items on tables or whatever. It's only when an NPC is drinking that they have a pink bottle.

No idea, but that might be it somehow. Do they not turn up in TES4Edit - or can't you select them?

Yes, it should work fine. Never heard of this issue before.

OK, so you're only issue is with drinking NPC's. I thought you had missing textures generally for the potions, so I misunderstood that. Still weird as I can't see why FCOM would affect animations in the first case.

Your Import Graphics settings look fine - but this should be something else anyway.

Before that, I'll try just running all the component mods without FCOM and see if I can get it to load. If so, I'll see how the animation looks there.

Edit edit: BOSS is telling me that Mart's Monster Mod - Gems & Gem Dust.esp doesn't work with the Full OOO, but that Mart's Monster Mod - Diverse Runeskulls Loot G&GD.esp requires it. I thought we were supposed to use the MMM Runeskulls bit instead of Exnem's Runeskills and FCOM_Runeskulls. Am I mistaken? 3F Harvest [Flora].esp [Version 3.0.0]


Use MMM Diverse Runeskulls for OOO

Choose one version of Crowded Cities not both them

You do not need OMOBS optionial combat settings that is for standalone users..OOO already contains them..

If going to use TamrielTravellers in FCOM then you need to use TamrielTravellers4OOO version.

Make sure Harvest Flora is version 3.0.1 (version numbers was never updated so redownload to be on safe side)

Edit edit: BOSS is telling me that Mart's Monster Mod - Gems & Gem Dust.esp doesn't work with the Full OOO, but that Mart's Monster Mod - Diverse Runeskulls Loot G&GD.esp requires it. I thought we were supposed to use the MMM Runeskulls bit instead of Exnem's Runeskills and FCOM_Runeskulls. Am I mistaken? Edit Edit Edit: According to http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/walkthroughs/fcomguide/bainconfigfcom, apparently so. Let me fix that as well.


Yeah, use Mart's Monster Mod - Diverse Runeskulls Loot OOO.esp.

Diverse Runeskulls is MMM's replacement for that mod. All of those plugins are Diverse Runeskulls add-ons...
