Missing rooms in certain cells - WTF? Please help...

Post » Mon Jun 28, 2010 2:38 am

Hi there.
I am investigating a few things in the GECK.
I really want to check out the 13th floor of The Tops, and the Ultra-Luxe Kitchen.
Unfortunately, when I load these cells up in the GECK, they are only partially visible - it seems like big chunks are missing.
Any idea why this might be happening?

Thanks,
Dan

It's a common question. The answer is that it's a bug in the GECK. To see all of the items, you'll need to highlight and delete everything called a "RoomMarker" in the cell (alternately, you can just move them all really far up/down on the z-axis, but I haven't found a quick way to do this so I just delete 'em).

HOWEVER, this breaks all sorts of crap once the mod is actually loaded. So there are two options until this error is fixed, neither really ideal: 1) delete/move the markers in your mod, and then remove those changes using an external tool before release. This can be harder than it sounds, because sometimes screwing with room markers changes quests or other things you wouldn't expect, so this method becomes more difficult the larger your mod and the more changes you make. Alternately, my preferred method, 2) disable geck's autosave (not sure it works anyway), make these changes, observe and learn from the cell you're examining, and then reload your mod entirely.

Incidentally, if you're going to do a lot of modding (particularly scripting), you'll want http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36290. It's a memory-resident utility that fixes several major issues with the Geck - but NOT, sadly, the issue described above.

@mwoody
Method one (I mean moving and undo the move with NVEdit after Geck cell editing ) is perfectly safe if you know what you are doing.

Thanks - that fixed it. I just wanted to poke around in those areas to see how they were built, so no worries about humping the game.
Now... it's modding time! :)

Yeah, but how do you move it? Is there a command to select many objects and move them? I can never get a move cursor on RoomMarkers.

Use the show/hide window (view menu) to display them. If you want to move a group of markers per hand don't select them in the preview window use the cell view list instead. Now you can move them in the preview window as group like any other object.

I normally go for a single marker and 'edit' (right mouseclick) it in the cell view list with a z factor of 5000 because it is easier to undo it if needed.

I have this problem, where I open a room in cell view and chunks of it are missing. I tried removing the RoomMarkers but nothing changes the room still looks the same with all of the same missing spaces. I have even tried re loading the room with no sucess.
