Missing Spell Option.

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody knows the answer to the following question?

Firstly, I have 2 games running of TES IV Oblivion on Xbox 360.

The 1st game character is a Warrior class Breton and the second is a Mage class Dark Elf.

I am at level 42 or so in the 1st game and level 48 in the 2nd.

In the 1st game with the warrior Breton, when making spells, I was able to make a spell to command a humanoid up to level 25 for however long although I don't remember now when I was able to do this.

In the 2nd game though with the dark elf, this option is not even avalable and I was wondering if it becomes available at a certain point or something, or if it is quest-dependant or something like that?

In the 2nd game I am at a higher level than the first so it is probably not that.

There are a few secondary quests I am still yet to complete in the second game, like rescuing the painter from the painted world and rescuing the other guy from the dreamworld he is trapped in so I am
wondering if completing these or maybe other quests would enable that feature at all?

I would be thankful if anybody knows the answer to this.

All the best and thanks.

You have to actually have a spell with the desired effect to make it so that you can create that same effect in a custom spell.

Try Bravil or maybe Chorrol, speak to the other mages they should have what you need. I can't remember from memory I still play my first character...

You have to be able to cast the spell by having a greater or lesser power, or have purchased it and have high enough skill in that school. For example, if you buy an apprentice level frost shield spell, but are only a novice in alteration, you cannot yet use it to make custom spells.

Spells don't become available automatically, you either have to find them through Spell Tomes, receive them through a quest, or buy them from someone who sells them. These are usually Mage Guild members, though there are a few stores that sell them and you can buy certain spells in all the chapels. I'm pretty sure you can get Command Humanoid from the Mage's Guild in Chorrol.

Thanks for the replies folks, I much appreciate it.

In all of the major skils for the mage, ie, Illusion, Alteration, Mysticism etc, I am at 100 but I don't think that I have bought a command humanoid spell,
because the only ones I have seen were at about to level 5 or whatever, so didn't think it would be of much use.

Now though, it seems that if I do get that one, then I'll probably be able to make one to level 25.

It is most amusing though, to go into a fort or some place where bandits or marauders are gathered and 2 of them are having a pleasant enough conversation
about mudcrabs or whatever and the next moment, they are engaged in a bitter struggle until one of them stands victorious;)

Blessings of Stendarr upon you all.
