I have a small problem. I start the game with the Fallout Mod Manager (the most current, and the most current FOSE and game patch also), and it loads, the music starts, and the sliding screens go by. But when the game arrives at the point where I would normally choose a New Game, or Load a Game etc, there is no longer a menu, just the background picture of the power armored person.
This is the first time in all of the years I have been playing Fallout 3 that I have seen this error. I immediately thought it must be the most recent mod update that I did, Marts Mutant Mod from version 5 to 6. and promptly uninstalled it. The error still occurred. The timing of the error would usually indicate a BSA loading error, the game is attempting to find a dependent BSA and is not. I checked the BSA lists against installed mods, everything there. I re-validated, my invalidation, just in case, still no go. I checked my master load order against recommended lists, nothing out of place. It would be less of a mystery if I had had a problem with the game earlier, but it has been running very smoothly and cleanly, until I tried to install the Mart's Update.
I always have a 'Last Working Copy' of my entire game, and a separate copy of the 'Last Working Data Folder' stored away just in case of emergencies. I pulled out my 'backup' data folder and placed it into the directory after renaming the current one. The game started up, made its way to the start menu, and everything was working fine. I started a game just to be sure, it ran perfectly, and I was very happy. I thought that all I had to do now was patiently re-add the missing mods and I would have by-passed this problem. The first mod I tried to add/update was FWE. The fomod installed well, I started the game, the music came up, the sliding pictures appeared, but not the menu. I uninstalled FWE and removed all of the components of the mod, restarted the game and the same thing happened, no startup menu's to load or make a new game.
I am about to go to my 'Fresh Start Backup' of the entire game or reinstall the game completely from scratch. But before I do, I have a question please:
1. Does anyone one know the actual detailed cause of this error? So that I may avoid it in the future. I am figuring that it is something that I am doing.
2. I have read about other people having this error, but no one has given them a solution. Is this a new phenomenon? Or, just new to me.
3. I THINK it is a BSA problem, but not being an expert, I do not really know. Am I even in the right area?
I have solved almost all of my past crash and freeze errors by diligence and asking sensible questions of sensible people. And until this problem my game was immaculate and running like a well oiled protectron. I would appreciate any and all help.
Thank you in advance,
Hannah A.
