MISSION MARKER

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 9:30 am

On these forums bastard is not a censored word, it is for example the name of a type of sword, but if used in the incorrect way such as a derogatory term or a flame then the mods will be after that member for using it.

Rohugh , my friend! Did you see that post right above yours?

I http://img171.imageshack.us/f/compasslighter.jpg/ from the recently leaked footage that clearly shows the compass, and I don't see any quest marker on it.

Maayyybbeee he didn't have a quest active? And...are leaked images allowed?

As I'm almost certain map and quest markers will be there, I just hope we will have the option to toggle them on and off, and I hope the journal will give more detailed directions for those of us who don't use the markers; much like Morrowind.

Oh goodness, let me close this for a while so I can sort it.

OK, I have removed a lot of posts from here - let me remind you that the topic is about mission markers so back to that please.

I quite honestly liked the quest marker in Oblivion because even though I loved Morrowind and would play the hell out of it with my friend, I could never figure out where I was supposed to go for almost all of the quests, and only got up to like the 2nd or 3rd main quest. So the marker in Oblivion was very helpful for me.

Since NPCs are supposed to give directions I don't see why they'd want to keep the mission markers. Seems redundant.

Not every single NPC will give directions to every single place.

Hopefully they remove the marker from the compass and only leave the quest marker on the map to show where the dungeon or building is but not inside to show where the item is, I want to find that item. The quest marker is indicative of where the quest giver marked your map.

Just for being honest, i dont see health bar as well.

I doubt it doesnt exist.

I did hear in an interview that the health bar goes away until you are damaged. The whole hud is supposed to go away until you need it.

From what I understood they did.

Highly doubtful he didn't have the quest active. I talked about how there was no marker when this picture first came out but I haven't said it since because for all we know, it actually is on the compass right now. However, I'm hopeful that the quest markers don't show up on the compass anymore. Also, the images were leaked by one of the people invited to the conference, so it's fair game because it was in an official article.

Nothing against outdoor markers ( "let me just mark that on your map for you." " Turn left at the rock. What, yes I know they all look the same. See that rock, and see those trees on the hill, yes, the ones I'm pointing at," but underground? No way, unless there is a perk that let's you smell treasure, like the Bisto kids, just follow the brown trail in the air. Well, it's no less realistic than a big golf tee on your local map.

[which reminds me, if the world map is one big page of 3d Skyrim, what does this mean for local maps?]

From what I understood they did.

Then your misunderstood. They gave one example of this in the Bleak Falls quest. That's it.

Even then, all the sister did was take you to the edge of town and probably marked your map (which is what I hope happened, thus would be the reason there is no quest marker inside)

I would be completely dumbstruck and lost without some marker telling me where to go, the only thing i didnt like about it was that it showed me the exact point where i was supposed to go (for eg. finding some long lost ancient artifact in a maze of ruins) I want to be able to find that myself.
I understand why people wouldnt want it at all in their game and for that reason i think you should be able to toggle it on / off in the options, then everyones happy.

I surely hope there is an option to turn it off. That and points of interest as well.

Would seem a bit weird, I remember how confusing Daggerfall's got as you rose through the levels, but to my mind, a 3d map as in, for example, Metroid Prime, just wouldn't fit in a fantasy game.

It's just a birds eye view of Skyrim, not like a data map layout. I'm also guessing that dungeons and towns will show up on the 3d map once you discover them.

Yeah I would much prefer to go looking for places and ppl myself without the 100% chance of finding w/e I'm looking for. At the very least I would like to see the game made without the marker in mind, but have it as an option to turn on for those people that are in a hurry or just like the easy button.

I am pretty sure that there will be an Option to remove the HUD, so you can play with or without it.

Couldnt they just make the journal entries more detailed and also allow an option to turn it off?

The voice actor wouldnt have to always say "turn left at the purple tree" - it could just give you a more detailed text in your journal.

this really did make oblivion a lot worse for me.

1.its already been confirmed

2.you dont have to use it, and it is possible to play Oblivion without it you just have to pay attention to what people are saying

3.dont think you are all high and mighty becuase you dont like the marker

With the no hud system they're going for, just having a marker on the map would be fine. People who don't wanna use it don't have to have it right in their faces, and only need to use the map to get to the general area. People who want to use it only have to pull out the map to find where they're looking for. Everyone wins.
