Mixed Race Characters

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 8:54 pm

I'd LOVE to be able to make mixed-race characters in Skyrim. I especially want to make a Nord woman that looks like her blond-haired mother except she has red eyes like her Dunmer father. How awesome would that look?

Am I the only one that wants to make a character that is not all of one race? I doubt Skyrim will add this, but a person can dream. ;)

Halfmer people take on the physical features of their mer parent. For all you know Oblivion is filled with halfmer npcs.

Sure why not. Half Argonian, Half khajiit, what an interesting combo.

They're already in, they're called Bretons.

:)

But seriously, it would be way too much work since they're making all races more unique in physique - making armor sets fit on all of them is already a lot, doing it for every possible combination of them would be insane.

An Orc mixed with an khajiit... disturbing, but well for some of the races it could work I guess.

That's not possible with the lore stating that you get the racial appearance of your mother, so no matter how much you want hybrids hopefully they will never exist in the ES world.

Well I was under the impression that not all races could interbreed, but humans and elves could. And yes I know that the children of mixed-race couples tend to look like their mother, but I am sure that is not across the board with no trace of their father at all. Hence why my Nord would have her mother's coloring and features except for the red eyes.

I don't think a nord/dunmer would look like a nord with red eyes.

I don't understand why people can't be happy with having 10 races already. They want to crossbreed the races so they will look "cooler" but not really much more. If you want to have red eyes you can always go and become a vampire, cuz they often have red eyes...

Mixed races haf mer-half man looks like their mother (with some features from their father, i.e. Agronak), so you could make them before. That's all.

Sure why not. Half Argonian, Half khajiit, what an interesting combo.

Wow, I wonder how a Orc and a Kajiit would look like. A furry, green gnob with a harsh voice.

No thanks. I prefer uniqueness, they should make each race even more unique then in Morrowind and Oblivion(which they already have confirmed they are doing).

That would explain why "the fiercest foes rout when they hear triumph's shout". Of terror...

Read this book. http://www.imperial-library.info/content/morrowind-notes-racial-phylogeny-and-biology

It is explained in the Elder Scrolls universe (too avoid the whole half race thing) that if a Female Dunmer and a Male Orc get down the kid is going to generally be a Dunmer. Though a few of the fathers traits may be present. As has been pointed out, look at the grey prince. -Oblivion spoiler-
Spoiler
His mother was a Orc and his father was an Imperial vampire. None of the visual traits passed over. He was just a Orc. Perhaps Imperial charisma passed on though.

That would be great, but they'll never do it, too many model/texture variables..

That is an easy way out, but given how many hybrid races there would be with 10 races it is the smart thing to do. Even with beast races only being able to reproduce with their own kind, it would cause a lot of new races. Just let them focus on the existing ten.

I would support this if only for a few unique NPCs

I think people are quite happy that the 10 ES races are in the game. But this is a forum for discussion, speculation and throwing out ideas and talking about them is what we do. It really has nothing to do with dis-satisfaction for an unreleased game and more to do with human nature.

OP, I usually play dunmer characters, an in Oblivion, I actually modded two of my longest running favorite characters and took out the red eyes, as their back story, limited as it was, did have them being of mixed heritage, and something of an outcast to dunmer, thus giving some motivation for being a little bitter and stabby and also willing to explore the world and adventure a bit. :)

As said already, mixed races take the appearance from their mother, this makes it incredibly easy to have a mixed race character. All you have to do is say "this is a mixed race character" and there you go. The only mixed race character I've seen that did not look pretty much exactly like any other race is the Gray Prince, who had gray skin instead of green like the other Orcs, but I think that was only because his father was a vampire.

I thought simmilar things to you when I played before so one of the first basic mods I did was to enable all races to use all the hair and Eye colors that were present.
You could make a pretty cool looking character by giving a Dark Elf, Argonian hair spikes and the slit eyes of Sheogorath

I wouldn't say it's impossible, just look at Jagar Tharn.

It's possible, but it's also rare. The "lore" about mixed races is just an educated opinion of someone in Tamriel. As all lore in TES, it's not carved in stone.

Anyway, ever since Oblivion you can customize how your character looks.
So I don't see why not having an additional 35 "half-something something races" is a problem.
