Just curious how members feel the likelyhood that Brink will get any support from sites such as Gamebattles/MLG in terms of ladders and tournaments.

Tournament groups like the ones you mentioned tend to support mainstream objective based games, so its really a question of how popular Brink becomes. If it goes mainstream, or even becomes a sleeper hit, I have no question that it will be supported. If it flies under most peoples radar (something I don't expect to happen) it wont have much support from 3rd party organizations.

SD on the other hand typically supports their own tournaments, so I wouldn't worry either way.

This game definently has a lot of potential. I would like to see ESL, CEVO, CyberGamer, and maybe even LANS for this game(PC). I'll try to get the word out for Brink

However big (or not) Brink gets, I just hope the community retains integrity. The last thing I want to see is a horde of adolescents and meatheads, claiming the game as their own. They can have their COD and Halo - leave Brink alone.

How could it go MLG, or GB or anything like that? Isnt all of Brinks gameplay, based around the Campaign, (ie. no defined game modes such as, CTF, S&D, TDM, etc.) I dont see how it would work for competitive tournaments. But i could be wrong, hopefully i am.

The campaign is an optional focal point. The main aspect of Brink is team vs team, class-based objective gameplay, which is the ideal setting for competitive players, especially with the game settings it is supposed to have, like FF on/off, high level abilities allowed/disallowed and it is also supposed to have support for less than 8v8 - since most competitions are between 4v4 - 6v6, this is also very appealing.

I would start here : http://www.fragworld.org/frag/community-blogs/brink-info-pt-1-story-gameplay-smart-classes-and-objectives.html

H0RSE has gone around and collected just about every bit of information that can be found. To get any more information than that, you pretty much have to just look around and read/watch every interview you can find.

I hope not. Every game I've played that is "gamebattles competitive" is flocked to by children who take gaming way too seriously and are just annoying as hell. I don't mind a handful of friends who make a clan just because they like playing together, but once you have these ultra-competitive gamebattles clans it really irritates me because they usually feel empowered since they're with their clan. Yeah, sure, in the end it doesn't really affect me, but why bother with these people if you don't have to. MLG is okay since it is separated from daily online "public" play (as long as SD doesn't try to make some [censored] "mlg" game types for public play), yet I don't think you could have one without the other unfortunately.

There's no doubt that it can be competitive (Look at W:ET, they still bet for Thousands of euros on matches (Gamestv.org, not trying to advertise, just showing an example)

It's probably 3v3 - 6v6. You'll play stopwatch mode. Team A has to complete the objectives within max 30 min (I guess), If they fail to, Team B has 32 minutes to do the same thing. If Team A completes all objectives in 16 minutes, Team B has to do the same thing in less than 16 minutes. You'll probably have to play atleast 2 maps, with a third one as decider, if necessary.

Too bad they don't support TV servers (yet). I hope they do. Watching pro teams live ingame rocks.

The creator of the great Holy Brink Compendium. He is no longer on this forum for complicated reasons. I guess that makes me high priest since his departure. In all seriousness he took a lot of time and complied all the available info on Brink for people.

Also, dibs on whatever's left since Shadow is obviously going to be 2nd High Priest... Or something.

Care to explain said 'complicated reasons'? Or is that action permissible to a Ban? I would really like to know, why he is no longer here, if he was such a great investigator?

"Complicated reasons" almost always means "its personal and not important", so I've never asked, and I assume it would be better if others didn't.

OK well if you guys are done figruing out your Cult positions, I'd sort of like to get back to the topic at hand.

What I was asking is, will the game support some kind of match play (not if you like that kind of thing or not). Will you be able to bring in 8 friends and 8 opponents (or less) before starting the game. I have seen that you can set up friends only rooms butr not if you can set them up before starting. I get the feeling you set up a friends only match then start playing and your friends join you after, doesn't sound like a lobby system but more of a private ongoing match.

HORSE will update the competitive scene as well as everything else regarding Brink. The developers have stated that they want this game to be competitive and will be 5v5 friendly as well as the 8v8 it is designed for.
In the end we will have to wait to learn more about the game, mod tools and server control. As for the leagues we are in constant touch with all the league admins (we just interviewed TWL/ESL and CEVO head admins in our podcast for Black Ops)
Game Battles is owned by MLG and we are good friends with the folks at Fragged Nation and other leagues as well. We also maintain a database of Clans including clans that play Brink so if you are a team interested in competing add yourself and we can let the leagues know there is demand. That is what it will come to in the end. If there are teams that want to play then there will be leagues, ladders and tournaments.

Tactical Gaming (and Tactical Warfare) is interested in this game. While it has not yet been announced if we will add Brink to our supported game-types. We have a strong list of current TW members that have stated they will join the Brink Division if it is supported (Including the great TW Blind v2 and well myself).
TG has a strong history in the gaming community with several of our members very high up in FraggedNation and many of our teams have been successful on GB and other ladder sites.
What is the database of teams you are refering to. It should already have TG or TW listed. If you are familiar with us, then you know when we join a ladder it is with multiple teams.

I appreciate your response, and I do hope we get an update on how starting competitive matches will be achieved.
