[RELz] mlox, a tool for anolyzing and sorting your load orde

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:18 am

John, it seems we need to look at the Book Rotate comments.

I am running GOTY with Book Rotate v5.3 and Book Jackets - Book Rotate.

It seems that I had everything setup correctly, but I forgot to activate Book Rotate Tribunal. I got missing script errors in warning.txt due to the oversight, but never got an inkling from mlox.

Thanks. I've made the dependencie for these 2 mods more specific now. So here's a new release for that:

You may want to add an entry for those using the old version PRE to download this one instead:
Since, for some reason, the latest version isn't on PES.

Thanks for the heads up. Indeed, mlox just didn't have enough ordering information about .esms, so it wasn't doing a good job there. I've modified the application so now it has some builtin rules for ordering the official .esms at the top of the load order.

So, here's a new release of the mlox application (Version 0.54):
http://code.google.com/p/mlox/downloads/list

Grab mlox-exe-0.54.7z if you want the standalone Windows executable, or else get the smaller mlox-0.54.7z if you already have Python/wxPython installed or if you want to run on Linux.

Thanks very much for the quick fix, John!

Is there anyway for Mlox to group similar esps together. For example, LGNPC ones or maybe all the Better Armors.

Not really. Is this just a matter of aesthetics? or is there some need for them to be grouped?

Edit: Of course, you can always move things around by adding [Order] rules to you personal mlox_user.txt file ....

Well, in that case, another thing you could do is first sort your load order with mlox. Then use some other tool to reorder things the way you like, then sort it again with mlox. If mlox doesn't see a reason to move something, it won't. Or, like I mentioned above you can put some [Order] rules in your own personal "mlox_user.txt" file and they will move things around whenever you re-run mlox.

@john.moonsugar
I keep getting a notice about 'Texture Fix - Bloodmoon 1.1.esm' as follows:
[NOTE]
> 'Texture Fix - Bloodmoon 1.1.esm'
| "Texture Fix - Bloodmoon" is superceded by "Bloodmoon Landscape Overhaul":
However, the 'Bloodmoon Landscape Overhaul v1.0' readme states the following:
4. Version History
...
if you do not like my land reshaping then i recommend you use 'Texture Fix - Bloodmoon version 1.1' (which fixes landscape seams only) instead of the Overhaul esm.
The mlox note gives the impression that v1.1 is obsolete when it really is still a viable option.

One of the UUMPP entries needs to be updated:
[Note]
!! Morrowind Patch v1.2.2.esm is old and should only be run by people who do not have the expansions. Since you have Tribunal and Bloodmoon, it is highly recommended that you upgrade to the UUMPP! (Unofficial 'Unofficial Morrowind Patch' Project by quorn)
!! (See: http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=899830 )
The url in red should be updated to the official release thread - http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=966509
Or better yet, to the PES (pending) / ElricM (active) download location.

Another of the UUMPP entries needs to be updated from refering to 'Morrowind Patch v1.6.4 (WIP)':
[Note]
! All of these plugins are either included in, or the problems they address are also addressed by the latest UUMPP by quorn [Morrowind Patch v1.6.4 (WIP)]. It is recommended that you replace them with the UUMPP.
Text in red should be 'Morrowind Patch v1.6.4'

Also, since quorn decided to rename the project MPP - Morrowind Patch Project, it might be worth considering changing UUMPP references to MPP.

[edit] I'm using version: mlox.py 0.54 [mlox-base 2009-03-14 18:46:56 (UTC)]

@tetchy: Thanks for the heads up. I've included your suggestions for a new release of the rule-base: mlox-data_2009-03-15.7z
http://code.google.com/p/mlox/downloads/list

I've reworded the comment on the Bloodmoon Landscape Overhaul, hopefully it makes the situation more understandable now.

For some reason the MPP link on PES is still "pending" (whatp's up with PES?). So for now I've used the forum link until that goes through. But eventually, I'll try to link to the most "permanent" page.

I cleaned up a few other UUMPP -> MPP related issues, including that it no longer adds bloats. And I've updated the list of plugins "obsoleted" by the MPP.

This looks like a pretty sweet tool. Is it mostly safe to grab now/is there an upcoming update I should wait for?

In my opinion it is mostly safe :) There are 2 things to consider separately: the application and the rule-base.

At this point, there isn't really any outstanding planned work on the application. I will, of course, fix any bugs that come up, but it's been pretty stable for quite some time.

The rule-base will be updated periodically, since the world of mods continues changing. I'm still in the phase where I try to incorporate suggestions as quickly as possible when people bring them up in this thread. Maybe in the future updates will come out less frequently.

Edit: Another consideration: the application is 100% safe if you do not press the "Update Load Order" button. After all, some people may just want to use mlox for the advice it gives and use some other tool for changing load order. The Readme also gives a safe testing procedure, if you are still worried it might screw up your load order.

Cool. I'm trying to run it now but not only is there no mlox.exe in the directory, nothing really comes up when I run mlox.bat either. I downloaded the Python package (since I have Wrye Mash), but I'm wondering if the two prereqs are things I already downloaded for Mash. I recognize Python25 but not wxPython.

If you can already run Mash, then you probably have the Python/wxPython necessary for running mlox.py, which is in the mlox-0.54.7z archive. However, if you encounter any confusion or failure, it's probably easier in that case to run the mlox.exe version which is in the mlox-exe-0.54.7z.

If you unpack mlox-exe-0.54.7z in your Morrowind folder, it will create a folder called "mlox". You should visit that folder and run the mlox.exe application from there.

Works great, thanks! Though you might want to look at the readme for the .exe package, as it's really difficult to read. The one in the Python package was fine though, what happened?

I just checked it and the Readme in the .exe package is just a normal text file, like it is supposed to be. In what way was it difficult to read?

Well, I was gonna copy and paste mlox_readme to show you, but when I did it looked pretty again!-

Name: mlox
Version: 0.54
Copyright 2009 John Moonsugar
License: MIT License (see the file: License.txt)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
mlox - the elder scrolls Mod Load Order eXpert
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is mlox_readme.txt, which gives basic information on what mlox is
and how to use it.
See mlox_rules_guide.txt for a description of the rules and rule-base.
See mlox_guts.txt for a discussion of mlox's inner workings.
---------------------------------------------------------------------- etc.

Really though, it's a mess in .txt form so I'm not sure why pasting it into my browser cleans it up  Did you copy and paste it from its Google page into Notepad? I guess it's not a big deal since it's online as well.

Ah, I think I might know what "it's a mess" means :) It's probably the Unix line endings, versus the CRLF Windows line endings. I thought I'd fixed that, but maybe not for the .exe. I'll make sure that gets addressed in the next release. Thanks for letting me know.

Mlox reports that GCD_VH_patch2 is needed when using GCD with Vampiric Hunger 3 v1.2. But, is this indeed the case? Is this an updated GCD version of this patch because I always assumed that it was old as per the Vampiric Hunger readme.

"This version works with Galsiah's Character Development. You don't need the VH patch which was included with GCD anymore."

"Do not enable the Vampiric Hunger patch for Galsiah's Character Development. That was created for version 1.0 and it's no longer necessary."

As in version 1.0 of Vampiric Hunger 3 right?

New release: mlox-data_2009-03-16.7z, contains update for the GCD_VH_patch reported by Vharlak.
mlox-exe-0.55.7z/mlox-0.55.7z, just contains a small Doc tweak and ensures DOS line endings for .txt/.bat files for problem noticed by C-Euro. No code changes.

I agree your rewording is more clear now. Avoiding 'superceded' or 'obsoleted' was the main concern.
