MMM or WAC game experience and compatibility

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 3:36 am

I've managed to uninstall my old Oblivion and I want to reinstall it with mods.

Yesterday I downloaded WAC v1beta and I'd like some information.

Which Creature Overhaul offers the best experience overall? I used to run MMM alongside with OOO (cluttering my load order with many plugins), Tamriel Travellers, All ULs, Better Cities, RBP+LAME+Supreme Magicka (Integration, of course :whistling: ), Armamentarium, Realswords and many quest mods. I find WAC has a great appeal on it (and I simply LOVE Realswords), but I'm not sure about the experience. I like the new animals more than MMM's, but are the creatures as special as the Big monsters from MMM? (I remember about almost epic battles with giant monsters in snow, or the yellow belly ogres, and so on).
So I'm asking to players who have played both extensively a little advice...

Now, compatibility-wise: MMM is more supported than WAC, of course, and it has been built to work well alongside OOO.
What about this version of WAC?
I know for sure it conflicts with some of ULs, but there are many patches, as always, so nevermind;
I know it conflicts with OOO and there was an OOO-WAC.esp (or something like this) to make them work together, but it is now obsolete due to the new beta status of the mod (can somebody address me?);
I'm aware of a conflict with The Elder Council because of the new Legion Uniform WAC adds (any workaround?);
It adds new races for the beards, as I read somewhere, how it works with an IntegrationIntegrated (RBP+LAME) setup?
I don't know about other issues (minor or major), any report?

Thank you for patience :foodndrink:

I managed to find a workaround for OOO (and maybe even for MMM :o but I'd like free space in my load order). The site is Japanese, but I'll manage, one way or another :yes:
RBP should have no issue.
For conflicts I'm aware of there's only The Elder Council which needs a fix, but I don't know how.

Still, I need an opinion from players of which one between WAC and MMM gives the better experience.

Sorry for double posting

If your main mod is Oscuro's then I have to say that MMM is the way to go.
I also love WAC, but currently any patch is unsupported by ourselves and compatibility with OOO hasn't been tested fully.

So MMM will be... Still I have interest on the experience from players.
I'd really like to collect their points of view

I haven't played with WAC enough to be qualified to have an opinion on it. But I've played with MMM quite a bit. What I love most about MMM is not the new creatures, but the more advanced AI it adds to enemies and the randomness it adds to the game world.

When running MMM you are never quite sure what is going to happen. I once made a save just before an encounter with three wolves on a road. Each time I loaded this save something different happened: one time all the wolves were hostile and fought to the death; one time all of them but one were hostile and the last one ran away when its health was low; one time they were all hostile but they all ran away when their health was low; one time two were hostile, one fought to the death, one ran away when its health was low and the third was friendly. I'm sure I could have continued to get different results indefinitely.

MMM also a really cool "wounding" system. Wounded enemies trip, fall, stagger, miss their swings. It adds a lot dynamism to combat. It's also a great visual signal as to how things are going, much more immersive than a health meter. Another cool little touch is undead rising again after you've defeated them. That just never gets old for me. I love it. There are optional .esps for crafting, AliendSlof's horses, Shivering Isles and one that adds archers to city walls.

I really love Martigen's Monster Mod. It is on my short list of essential, must-have mods that I use in every game I play, regardless of character. I can't recommend it highly enough. I think it's truly a masterpiece.

You might want to also give a look at Oblivion Warcry - New Dimension (OWC-ND). It has several epic monsters in there, and it combined with WAC, you have the most creature/monster diversity available of all the overhauls. The only thing that really mars OWC is there are a couple of things unrelated to ElderScrolls in it, but those are easily taken out via TES4Edit or simply using CS to replace them.

If you're interested it, there's a guide about it here called Complete Modded Oblivion Installation Guide. It's a pretty comprehensive guide, but you don't have to install everything the poster put in. Just the ones related to OWC-ND and WAC.
