Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset

Post » Mon Dec 06, 2010 10:28 pm

glad to know i helped :)
Ive been doing some more work on the Pixelivion mod, as there are some dodgy looking areas currently. Hopely in the next few daays ill have a new release.

I'll start installing this on lunch at finish it when i get home this evening.

Great to hear your working on it still the help is appreciated, the laptop we have was too cheap to refuse when i got it and the only downfall is the graphics chipset but this may help out to play this!

How do you reckon Oblivion would cope with Vista as I really can't be bothered backing up my hdd and installing XP at the moment... if XP is going to be vital to this then I will wait until the weekend to do this...

well as you cacn see, i run on vista. It is better to run on XP as it uses less RAM (and to those you argue, IT DOES FOR ME!), no, it is not nessary.

Having some issues with getting everything working, mainly being...

5. Test a game (or start a new one), setting the Streamline to your preferance (i used 'Preformance').

How do I set it to performance, I have got this installed and it runs ok when I go into the game and does make a difference but not a major one...

8. Now you want to improve the stuttering a bit, well i have some suggestions fo you. There are many polygon replacers out there, the best are in this thread here, but i have to suggest the Oblivion PolyGone Overhaul, LowPolyTrees and LowTriPolyGrass. Install these and test again.

I understand this may be something to do with being on a vista system.. but when I went into my Oblivion/Data folder there wasn't a folder called meshes so i created one but then I have heard things like that on vista your files will be installed to a virtual area due to UAC (I have now turned this off) or something of the like and because of this and my fps being fairly low (fps dropping to 6 in internal fights with more then one enemy). How can i ensure the textures are working I installed OBMM and it said do you want to move the files from the virtual are so I did but this doesn't seem to have made a difference...

Any help appreciated as I am fairly new to installing mods etc. so I have become a bit puzzled!

you seem to have done well with the mods installing, you did install them after you turned off UAC right? if so they should be working. With streamline, you have OBSE right? needed to let the mod run, it should have added a "Streamline Signet" to your inventory, find it and activate it to bring a menu, choose preformance (or another option if needed)

okay what mods do you currently have running, maybe i can suggest something.

PS: do you have stuff happening in the background much, background programs that arent needed should be turned off. do you use google desktop, that csn be a bit of a killer with it taking so much RAM. maybe try disconnecting from the internet and play with your anti-virus off. might help.

Will check the signet, will it matter if I am using a modded Inventory & Map for streamline? I do have OBSE installed and streamline says it is active when i play the game.

I installed the mods before I turned off UAC but OBMM asked if I wanted to move stuff over and I backed up my Meshes folder before I did this but it doesn't seem to be any different...

Don't know if I am making sense here! :embarrass:

okay well.... try, re-installing the mods again (just in case) then i want you to post a dxdiag, i have a feeling that maybe
1) Your RAM is getting Filled
AND/OR
2) Your CPU doesnt have enough juice
AND/OR
3) your pagefile is higher then it should be.

Dont however post your dxdiag here (as it is REALLY long), make a new thread. That way is it is one of those things, more poeple can help to fix it.
To post a dxdiag:
Type "Dxdiag" (without quotes)
Hit enter
Wait for it to load (the green bar)
Hit "Save all infomation"
Save the file
Open the file and copy then paste everything in a post here

but like i said, in a new thread as it is super long and i dont really want this thread with a dxdiag from every person who needs help, as that would make the thread hard to scroll around. Start a new one, post the dxdaig, state the problems you are having, state that you know the intel 965 is weak and you have been using this thread to try and ruun the game on it (stop the people just linking you back to here, and the people who will just say that the game wont play on the card). I will then use that thread to try and give you help.

hope you got all that.

Ok I will do that when i get home at lunch. When i install the mods is it just a case of copying the files over? Should they replace something already there and/or do I have to run something to install the meshes and textures?

when installing mods, yes it is just copy and paste. and yes they can often replace files. the meshes are in the meshes folder, the textures in the texture folder, just copy both into the data folder and overwrite.

Thats possibly my problem then as none of the meshes where overwritten. I'm must also say I have yet to install Pixelivion but I suppose I should be getting much more than 6fps in interior fights!

one thing i noticed were my interior fights were very laggy, even worse then outside at times. i think i figured out that it was light reflecting off normal maps, there are more inside then out, that why in Pixelivion it has the DeNormal Mapper Mod.

Do you know what the virtual area Vista installs Oblivion to when UAC is active?

I will also try installing Pixelivion to get rid of the laggy indoor fights...

I'm glad to see that somebody has found a loophole to chipset dilemmas, but your solution doesn't seem to be working for me.

I've been stuck with a notebook that has an Intel ® 965 chipset as well and have followed your instructions to the letter except for #1, and I still cannot even get the Oblivion Launcher to successfully start Oblivion. Just the infamous "Windows has encountered a problem" (Even with Oldblivion!)

The notebook I'm using is a Sony Vaio NR series (Model # VGN-NR498E),

It has an Intel ® Duo Core CPU with 2.0 GHZ, 3 GB RAM, that damn chipset mentioned above, and is running on Vista 32-bit Home Premium. I believe everything for that computer should be in order for minimum settings except for that chipset, but still no avail. I've got v.0016 OBSE and Streamline 2.1 installed, and am using the OBSE launcher instead of the regular one, as the READme for OBSE instructs.

The only thing I am doing different for your instructions is installing the v15.9.0.1472 Intel Driver, because it will not allow me to, citing: "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from this computer's manufacturer." (That being Sony for me). I double-checked to make sure that I had chosen the right OS when Downloading the driver update.

So instead, I've attempted to update to two updates that Sony's website said will work for me, the 'Sony? VGP-UPR1 Graphics Driver Update' and the 'Original - Intel? Graphics Media Accelerator Driver,' both of which I found and downloaded from http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGN-NR498E®ion_id=1

I've also attempted running the OBSE launcher in XP SP2 compatibility mode and as administrator, but that has no effect on my attempts.

If you have any suggestions, I would be most appreciative. The only think of doing to aid my computer further would be to try some more texture mods and make tweaks to my .ini file (But I'm NOT going to touch that document without a tweak guide on it). I can also post a DXdiag if you want.

that doesnt suprise me, its also the most important step.

most laptop makers dont supply the important v15 driver which is what is need for the game. I have there a work around for Dell laptops that should work on yours too. Unistall your current video driver, then install the intel one, the intel driver then doesnt pick up that you are using a Sony laptop then. If after installing the driver you get messages saying the driver isnt working of something, install your sony driver overtop of it again, the v15 upddates will stay, but the errors will be fixed.

Also with 3 GIgs of RAM it shouldnt run to bad, you mighten even need Pixelivion, but that will still help.

Ah, I see. I'd foolishly overlooked that step since I'm not using a Dell.

Thanks, I'll try that out now..

Edit: Success! That fix for getting the driver update to work did just the trick. I've managed to get a near-acceptable FPS level with 800x600, streamline on aggresive, and Medium sized textures in the prison cell. I'm going tinker around more now and get some of your recommended texture mods. Thanks a bunch! I definitely think your thread deserves to be stickied in this subforum.

Why are you asking here? Unless you're confusing the GeForce 9600M with Intel's 965 chipset? These two are two entirely different video solutions. What you have is leagues better than the Intel chipset and it's an actual video card...the 965 chipset referred to in this thread is a weak chipset that is onboard. The 9600M is a medium, perhaps high, settings card for this game at a 1280x800 resolution (perhaps 1440x900 even), so it's a decent card.
