[RERELZ]MOBS Medieval Oblivion Equipment Balance System [RER

I have some fixes for OMOBS and OMOBS_SI - some of the staff models and weapons are looking for meshes and textures from Oscuro's if happening to be using them standalone and not using bash..Noticed this when I was merging them into OOO.. Not a problem if they have OOO installed but if not then wtf can happen..I need to check them over once again to make sure that I did not miss anything and will upload those later today.

When I get the DLC_OMOBS version done and your fixes have been applied, we should probably change the version on everything to 2.1 so that everyone knows whether they have the final version /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Corepc, as discussed above, there's both a VileLair_MOBS and a Lair_MOBS included with the latest file (2.0b). The VileLair_MOBS is your corrected version (and so is the one that should be used). I also see that you submitted that one for addition to BOSS.

Might I suggest that it be submitted as Lair_MOBS instead? All MOBS conversions prior to this one have been called Lair_MOBS.esp. Thanks, BFG

I will take a look this weekend at the issues you found, thanks! I will also try to get OMOBS_DLC done soon so we can release it at the same time as the 2.1 versions.

In the meantime, here are some quick thoughts on what you found:

I might need to take a look at these before release...in the original MOBS, most Area arrows appear to have a -8 modifier to damage, versus their non-Area counterparts. This is similar to how, in Vanilla, most Area arrows have a -5 modifier to damage. I tried to preserve this in MOBS 2 and OMOBS 2.

Yep, I think I did make a mistake on those /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Hmm, I will need to take another look at those...I may have gotten them wrong, as they were one of the very last weapon sets I adjusted!

Heya, I left a comment on the MOBS standalone page on TESNexus, and was directed here. I'll just snip out what I said there:

"I appreciate most of what this mod is trying to do, but I'd actually like something adressed with melee reach. The reduction in reach actually makes the game a lot easier because the enemies don't seem to understand their own reach anymore, so they swing when you're out of range, and even with the reduced backpedaling it's very easy to total melee kite a horde of Goblins or some such. Even with a short weapon like a Shortsword.

To me it's really immersion breaking to have a horde of enemies wildly swinging at air around me. The dirty fix would obviously be to restore the original reach of all weapons, but obviously I'd rather have custom AI that acknowledges the new reaches(not sure how hard this is to implement). "

I know that trying to fix or alter the AI in these games is very hit and miss, and that if it were easy it probably would've been done by now, but I figured it was still worthy of discussion, given that I hadn't seen it discussed in relation to MOBS before.

So I've been away for a while, and I want to be clear about this before I change anything.

I've got a bain package in my bash installer list with the unofficial patches, the mobs versions of those patches found here : http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17621,
and the supplementals by arthmoor. And another package with the mobs and omobs mods.

From what I understand, I do not need to use the mobs versions of the patches anymore and I can just use the patches, the supplementals, and
than install the new mobs/omobs version? I've always been a bit unsure what I needed to do with these =/

No you do not need to use mobs version of the UOP patches anymore

Install Unofficial Oblivion Patches, Supplementals Patches, then choose either MOBS or OMOBS and DLC_Mobs (DLC_OMOBS is not done yet)..

Perhaps try using this if you are not already using Frans, OOO, MMM which contain these tweaks already..

That only affects creatures do not affect Npc at all..

It doesn't affect normal playable races, but I checked BAIN before posting and it does affect other weapon-wielding foes like goblins, minotaurs, Xivilai, etc. Including FCOM-added variants.

Hope I'm doing the right thing bumping this old thread but I'm getting really confused....

I'm playing an install with Francesco's overhaul. I have Frans' extra weapons with MOBS and WEPON with MOBS as well. I thought for some reason I could get away without installing standalone MOBS but I saw some weapon weights and values that looked out of whack so I guess I need standalone MOBS to adjust some vanilla items not touched by the other two mods. BOSS recommends a Nomerge tag for MOBS esp....but Wrye Bash wants to deactivate and merge it. Who do I believe? To Merge or not to Merge? And if Not Merge, do I have to do something extra to Import it?

Also, re: the Optional Combat Settings. I am running Realistic Fatigue, Duke Patrick's Combat Archery and SDR all of which I really like, and all of which adjust things that are also adjusted by MOBS' Optional Combat Settings. I have foregone MOBS' Optional Settings and installed Phitt's Phighting Phixes to pick up a few improvements that are not covered by my other mods, with less overlap. Any thoughts on that approach - am I missing anything not using MOBS' Optional Settings or would it be worth figuring out how to get that esp to play with RF, SDR and Combat Archery...if that's even possible?

Thanks for any help!

You don't need MOBS optional settings with Duke Patrick Melee combat. It will be mostly overwritten and outperformed by DP anyway. Are you using DP melee combat?

Further I've seen old bugs from MOBS with the changelog said was fixed reactivated when used with DP. Spinning Archers being one such example.

When you installed Frans did you choose MOBS? I'd recommend not if using DP, because DP will adjust weapon stats on the fly through scripts that include taking into account aspects of the weapon that MOBS doesn't and is more thorough. for not only the stat reasons, but also because it will work with with any mod added weapon. While on the other hand MOBS always requires patches.

And these patches become an issue because MOBS will make all the core weapons one stat system then mods that aren't MOBS ready will add weapons that go by vanilla stat system - then DP will adjust further the stats. DP is designed to adjust from vanilla. This is the case with melee weapons if using DP melee and archery weapons when using DP archery.

Basically if you use DP mods (which you still are not sorting correctly in your load order) you don't need MOBS. If you are stuck with a MOBS only install (and the only overhaul that makes one have that is OOO) then it is better to MOBS as much as you can and then add DP.

Thanks Psymon for the reply. You remember me from the DPMCNR thread! My post here was actually about a different install for a different character. After tinkering with DP's Melee Combat and getting knocked around by Brutis a bit I decided to go back and try and "perfect" my non-DPMCNR install to see which I like better. I'll probably continue to play both as I enjoy both characters and the installs are different in other ways, too. I'm sure your comments will be helpful when I go back to my DPMCNR install.

Re: this non-DPMCNR install (which still uses DP's Combat Archery) after stepping back from it for a few hours I realized that I have no need for MOBS' Optional Combat Settings with all the other mods I'm running as mentioned above. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

So I guess my question now boils down to: for a Francesco's install with*out* DP's Melee Combat, do I need to install standalone MOBS? I installed Francescos' own version of MOBS (as recommended in the MOBS readme) but *not* Frans optional combat settings. I do not achieve 100% comprehension with readmes but I thought Frans' version of MOBS would tweak vanillla weapons. However, a couple of times I have seen weapons stand out of lists with stats that looked out of place. Sorry I didn't note the actual values but one was a Silver Battleaxe at Rasheda's that looked overpowered for its weight and cost relative to the other weapons in her inventory (I bought it of course, though I've since traded up); the other was a comparison of Steel, Silver, Elven, and Mithril war axes (the last I'm assuming added by WEPON) in the same inventory that looked off. Based on these two observations I suspected I needed to add standalone MOBS - but I'm prepared to be told the game was probably working fine already and it was my expectations that were off.

And if I do need standalone MOBS in addition to Francescos' built-in MOBS, do I follow Wrye Bash's suggestion to deactivate and merge the Mobs Si esp, or BOSS's not to merge? And if I don't merge, do I need to Import Stats from MOBS Si esp and/or simply activate it? I looked at Importing Stats from it and cancelled after I got a scary THIS IS NOT REVERSIBLE! warning. I am well under the maximum number of total mods so if there's no other disadvantage to activating the esp normally other than taking up space in my load order I think I'd go that way.

Re: my load order, can you be more specific? I've corrected the problem I had using BOSS and believe my load order is now ordered according to the latest recommendations by BOSS. I re-read the readme for DP's Combat Archery and did not see the same advice he includes with Melee Combat to load after the bashed patch, so I have left Combat Archery in the BOSS-recommended load order. Is that the problem; should I override BOSS and load Combat Archery last? As a perennial noob I don't override BOSS or Wrye Bash unless explicitly instructed.

Thanks again for sharing your experience; I hope your answers are useful to others as well.

bart1965-

First off unless you adjust the DP archery ini the damage rates for archery will be much higher than vanilla + the scripted stat adjustments will be as well. The result making archery far deadlier than it would be with just MOBS.

Secondly, the MOBS in frans is considered outdated and the version by ... err what is his name ... http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/users/892875 is considered more comprehensive and up to date. http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/35560 may be of interest to you then, but the point being if you get the MOBS updated by him that will be the latest.

My opinion is that in game you won't be blown away by the difference between the MOBS in Frans and the updated one.

Optional combat settings means optional. That is like asking do I have to have these optional sprinkles on my ice cream.

You are incorrect about whether things are reversible in the bashed patch. Everything about the bashed patch is reversible. If you don't want the settings just remove the mod and re-bash the patch. All changes brought by mods that alter the bashed patch are only ever carried in the bashed patch.

It should explicitly state so in the DP archery readme.

This is the passage in the readme to the most recent version of MOBS that I'm aware of ( http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/28537 ) that I may be misunderstanding:

I am not sure if this means "Install Frans' MOBS, in addition to newer MOBS," or "If you want Frans you are stuck with the outdated MOBS and should use it instead of the newer MOBS."

The reversibility of everything is good to know. I will first try activating the MOBS SI esp and see what happens.

And I did not see the load order instruction in the Combat Archery readme but will follow your advice, as well as re-check the readmes for DP's smaller mods. And I'm already running WEPON, with MOBS. Love the variety!

Thanks again and happy gaming!

With the bashed patch all weapon stat records should be just importing into bash during the bashing and I believe most will end up deactivated, but imported.

Yes frans has a lot of weapons, so install that version then the newer afterward. All that will happen is that the records from the newer (if sorted by BOSS) will import into the bashed patch instead with regard to the records that are changed in the newer version.

Load order matters even in the bashed patch - what order they are merged is what order will win in the merging. Tags are a way of overriding that.

That all makes perfect sense, but BOSS wants to load MOBS Si esp early, before the Frans esps and before WEPON. Attached is the most recent load, ordered by BOSS with Combat Archery moved to the bottom.

Where should I put MOBS SI? Right under WEPON?
[edit: OK, it says in the WEPON readme to load WEPON after any elements of Frans or MOBS so I'll try MOBS SI right above WEPON.]

When I Rebuild Patch, Wrye Bash wants to deactivate MOBS SI and merge it into the patch. It does not pickup the MOBS SI esp for Importing Stats. (BOSS, meanwhile recommends tags Nomerge and Stats).

Once I get MOBS SI located properly in my load order, should/can I deactivate it and force Wrye to import by right-clicking on the MOBS esp and selecting "Import... Stats"? That's the move that triggers the warning "Import Item Stats from text file. This will replace existing stats and is not reversible!" from Wrye Bash which sounds scary.
Or go ahead and merge it like Wrye Bash wants to, despite BOSS' advice?
Or just leave it as an active, unmerged esp?

EDIT: I think I figured it out....see below.
