Mod's aren't loading in game

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:06 pm

i'm attempting to make my first oblivion mod. I've used the construction set for morrowind quite a bit, and made quite a few mods, so i figured now that i'm playing oblivion i'd make an oblivion mod... except that the mod i made isn't showing up in the game. i have it selected in data files, and after reading a bit on the forums i've downloaded and tried using oblivion mod manager as well. it just simply doesn't load. even something as simple as creating a new item using existing vanilla game resources with a new object/reference id and adding it to the inventory using the in game console. it just simply isn't there. is there some additional step i need to do for oblivion mods that i didn't need to do in morrowind? help please.

And what patch do you have applied to your game? (bottom left corner of game menu)
And what version of the CS are you using? (toolbar ->Help ->About)

adding any item/actor/script/world space etc... anywhere. the game isn't loading any mods. i did a couple tests. i created a new mod with ONLY a new object id for an iron dagger and attempted to add it to my inventory in game with the console (player.additem xxxxxxxx 1) the game didn't recognize that the object id existed. I also tried adding a throng of zombies in the prison cell you start the game in (lol) but they don't show up when i start a new game.

patch idk... i don't see anywhere where is lists a patch the bottom left of anything. i don't have any downloaded game content or expansions or anything, just plain simple vanilla oblivion. Is there a patch for the game? i actually bought it when it first came out in stores but never played it cause i didn't have a computer that met the system requirements. now i have a new computer.

CS v1.2.404 (is there a newer version?)

CS is the latest. Are you enabling your mods in the launcher?

if by enabling you mean putting an x in the little box on the data files screen (like morrowind) then yes. that should be all i need to do right? i mean i've done it a billion times before and made some pretty advanced mods and scripts for morrowind, i'm assuming it's the same process for oblivion...

Yes and no. In some ways, oblivion is 'easier', in other ways, morrowind was.... Oblivion CS can be rather picky.

Try doing a clean save, (I.E. with NONE of your mods loaded.) exit the game, start it up again with your mods re-enabled. see if that helps.

You need to patch your game to the latest, or mods will continue to not show up in-game. So this is something you need to look at, before you drive yourself crazy chasing other avenues.

Right-click on Oblivion.exe. Click "Properties". The "Details" tab will tell you what version you have. If it is not 1.2.0.416, get to patchin'! :toughninja:

Two more questions:
1. Are you using Windows Vista or 7?
2. If so, did you install Oblivion to the default directory ( in C:\Program Files)?

If you answered "yes" to both, then the Windows UAC is probably the culprit. Installing Oblivion to a custom directory outside of Program Files (like C:\Games) should resolve the issue.

You start your oblivion game.
The main menu comes up with the moving map in the background.

You look at the bottom left of that screen. It tells you the version of the game you are running.

This is why I asked, because they must both be patched at the same levels or the mods will not load.

Good to know that unpatched versions do not show that. I will keep that in mind for later questions like this. :)
Thanks for the update.
