Mod Dubbing/Voice acting

Post » Mon Jul 04, 2011 3:58 pm

Me and my friend are owners of a semi-professional recording studio in Poland. We both are huge fans of Oblivion/Fallout 3/New Vegas and some of awesome mods posted on this site, but some of them would be a lot more enjoyable with semi-proffesional voice acting. We would like to help you in future work and offer dubbing for upcoming or already finished mods (no charge ofc). Quality of sound is very good, we know how to mix it. We could put some other friends to work as well, practically there will be no limits of actors.
We would really like to do some cooperation so please hit me up with PM or email if you are interested!

JCP from the http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/402693-mod-dubbingvoice-acting/ here. I'm not the modder for Integration; more the primary beta-tester, suggestioner, and PR guy. I have forwarded your offer to the mod's author: bg2408.

Just curious about some things though. Do you have any experience with Oblivion's engine? As I recall the voice files need some specific formatting and encoding. If you aren't familiar with it, it might help to look into it before hand... I personally don't know the specifics, but some people who've done voice acting for Oblivion in the past should know.

Any major experience, completed projects, or (ughh I forget the word) contracts, transactions, deals... something like that?

I personally don't mind, but some people might; hows the vocal diversity amongst your group? Sometimes mods have this weird thing where say... a German guy is trying to speak English in a Chinese accent, and it doesn't work out to well.

Thanks for helping us getting the message to modders.
We have no experience with modding and formatting/encoding files for oblivion. We hope that modders or groups which we will cooperate with are more familiar with the subject and will be able to convert our recordings to files supported by oblivion. We are going to just give our high-quality recorded and mastered/mixed voices in common formats like mp3 or wav and let modders do their work.
About out work - we are focused on recording music - rap and rock mostly with local artists. For now, we have no experience with lectors and actors or modding what so ever. Everybody have their beginnings ;)
Still, with our experience with audio processing we are able to give most modders quality of dialogs, they would never achieve without spending money on it. Simply because we have professional studio hardware/software and needed skiils :)
Vocal diversity is not a problem. Maybe it won't be perfect-american-like accent but surely it will work out well. And i know the problem of some mods you are talking about, i couldn't even understand what some companions were speaking with some kind of german/french accent recorded on a simple pc microphone ;)

so, we are waiting for offers ;)

My advice to you is to record some samples of your voice acting and upload them to youtube or somewhere for people to hear your work. Or better yet, take it upon yourself to overhaul a mod which is old/abandoned that had quests but no voice acting, and complete the voice acting for it, such as the Oblivion bank mod.

If it's as good as you say, then I'm sure you will quickly become overwhelmed with requests.

For now i can give you a music sample - www.myspace.com/lenioo
This track was recorded some time ago in our studio, you propably won't understant a word of it, but it's all about quality now ;)
If you have doubts if this is real look in "label" section, it says "Kurzysie Recs" (comming soon, because we are not a label yet)

If you'll post some random dialogue or text here, i can record it and post here tommorow, so you can see we can work fast and without any cheating.

Maybe it won't be perfect-american-like accent

The main problem, IMHO. And it should be more like Australian or British :)

This should be fun.... I'll give you hard one... Sarcastic female xivilai introducing herself:

"I am Karashivuel" (car-ah-shiv-you'll is how I assume it's pronounced.)
"Do not fear. I am not here to kill, maim, torture, eat, or eviscerate anyone."
*sigh*
"no, this time I've got nothing to do with the sacking of Kvatch, the battlespire incident or the feast of saint jiub.
"And you..."

Player says *I am...*
"From the look of you I guess the result of a lonely altmer and a slaughterfish?"
No? well there's an easy way to find out: lets see if you taste like fish"

Oh well. Your maormer are no fun at all. (I think the your might be a grammar error. bg's German* so those show up sparingly. "you" or "your" will work eitherway)
Player says: *err what?*
Oh please.
You may have noticed I am a Xivilai, not a big eyed little girl crying when she hears a story about dying fawn
pathertic. usually I'm the one gutting the fawn, it's friends, and families instead.
And don't let me get started on the good old days in which I'd slurped up miss little girl's intestines too. Ah well. time's changing even us.

I also got a video of the conversation in question. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTrj9QJMrqo&feature=view_all&list=PLE8AF2FC38AAD6935&index=1 It's a bit long and each time I pressed enter it's a new line, so feel free to just choose one of the larger lines and try that.

As I said it's a pretty damn big mod, and that's just one of many topics. Not to mention the fact that there's unique comments for each race you can choose from after the "I am" response.. Granted most topics probably aren't that long, but there are some that go even longer and go off into complete speeches. I mean personally I'd have no problem with incomplete voice acting, like in some old games how it's text and then when something important happens there's actual voice acting from the major characters involved. Can't speak speak for bg, or the community as a a whole though... personally I'd be fine with just voiced greetings that way you get a hint of the character and you can fill in the blanks and imagine that voice for the rest of the dialogue.

Anyway let's see if I can find some easier ones...

One of the few main characters that is male. A Daedra seducer working for Clavicus Vile as a debt collector.... pretty all work, no play type vibe:

Welcome to Fog Slope stranger
player says: Daedra seducer
The form this image takes is no matter to me nor you (So he might not really be A daedra seducer. Maybe a very subtle unnatural type vibe to his voice to signify his mysteriousness and not really knowing what he is)
Player says: fog slope
Witness the weather in this mundane location. always foggy, or snowing reminds me of another world I once had the honor to visit. Always foggy, or raining.
Another video.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWRNSowVvhk Forgot to mention the videos are pretty fast... it's a quirk of the recording I did, it should give a basic idea on the setting, appearance, and demeanor of the speaker though.

I'll finish up with... uhh how about Teshekru's friendship proposal, as soon as I can find it, for now I'll post this as is... edit in a bit
