Mod esp alteration in TES4edit

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:02 am

I have long used that old classic "DarkerRegalICRedimized" and am right pleased with it. However, not too terribly long ago, in some mod recommendation thread or other, someone mentioned installing DarkerRegal sans esp due to what he or she considered undesirable weather changes. I had forgotten about that. The comment did, however, remind me that I too would as soon dispose of DarkerRegal's weather component. The catch is that I like all other esp changes and want to keep them. What to do?

I launched TES4edit, then loaded only "300 Regal Imperial City.esp" (along with Oblivion.esm of course). The esp is pretty basic. It breaks down thusly:

  • [ 00 ] Oblivion.esm
  • [ 01 ] 300 Regal Imperial City.esp
  • - File Header
  • - Worldspace
  • - Weather

Seems to me all I need do is right-click on the Weather module, select Remove from the resultant context menu, and accept the action. VOILA, a functional esp minus weather changes. I'd recreate my Darker Regal BAIN package, making the newly modified esp a selectable choice along with the standard esp.

But I'm no modder. What seems cut-and-dry to me might not be. Will this work? Is it safe and effective?

Thanks in advance!

I had two .esps conficting before. They altered the same thing and the load order forced the one I didn't like to win. I opened up them in TES4Edit and changed the values. I changed them so that the .esp I didn't like had the exact same values as the .esp I did like.

I'm not sure about deleting an entire thing. I think it should be more safe just to alter it so that its weather changes is equivalent to something else you desire. Not a TES4Edit expert and could very well be wrong though.

You'll want to open the weather branch and highlight each one, checking for the "referenced by" tab at the bottom. If none of the weathers show up as referenced by anything it's probably safe to just gut the entire weather branch.

Looks like I'm in the clear. The mod's weather section has a grand total of one sub-section, "01000CE8 ImperialCityWeather", which itself contains no sub-sections. No Referenced By tab in sight. I even relaunched TES4edit with all mods selected and found a mod that DID have Referenced By tabs to make sure they were located where I thought they should be. They were. Already have my new BAIN package made and dropped in installers:

00 ESP - no weather - cleaned
00 ESP - original (archival)
00 ESP - original - cleaned
01 textures

Haven't yet installed it, but likely will sometime today.

Thanks for the input.
