Mod Hype

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 1:55 am

Maybe modern culture has become so indoctrinated by commercial advertising that the majority of people think in exclamation points while trying to sell themselves in every human interaction. Maybe I am the only one who gets annoyed that people who start threads about their mods treat me like a shill with their promotional topic descriptions:

"An immersive, more challenging, more adventerous Fallout 3 experience"

"One of the most comprehensive mods for FO3!"

"Incredible visual overhaul released!!"

...yada yada yada... if you do say so yourself.

It's like you guys think you are going to get paid or something. I even saw one that said something like "This mod is what makes you wake up with your sheets wet!!" Because you are making me pissed? Give me a #@$% break already, ok? How many mods can really be "Improved" "Enhanced" "Advanced" "Incredible" "Extreme" etc., etc.? I have yet to see a mod that I consider anywhere near as good as the original game. All of them are derivative and the hype is kind of embarrassing.

I know that you worked hard on your mods and it makes you feel all warm and creamy when people download them, but it feels like that infommercial dude is yelling at me whenever I read the forum thread list. I doubt that most people are so feeble minded that they will take your word that your mod is INCREDIBLE just because you say it is while adding lots of !!!.

If your mod is good, word will get around and they will come get it. Just give us the facts please.

Have you tried DUIF3? You really should. It's going to make you crap your pants over and over again - that's the level of pure awsumness you'll get! :mohawk:

Seriously though, if people provide you with free stuff, you're in no position to [censored] and moan about the way they present their creations. Download and be thankful.

jeez, chill out.

its just a little flavor added to the description of said mods. nothing more, nothing less. you are taking one or two lines of the entire description of a mod totally out of context. most mods that i have seen do indeed include this over-the-top advertising, but then later explain very seriously and blandly exactly what the mod is about and what it does.

+1 for what DarN said.

this thread should be locked now before the real flaming starts.....

Word, DarN. Of course modders exaggerate a bit to promote their mods, and most of the time they add all the necessary information about their mods in addition to this. Did you really expect them to say things like "I know it svcks but I'm releasing anyway" or "I used craptastic textures to make you feel sick in the stomach"? Please...

Try to be more appreciative.

OP. If you have nothing constructive to say it is best to keep silent. Your post was nothing constructive, it avoided the forum censor, flamebaited and flamed other members of these boards.

Justifiably closed.
