Mod Installation Problems

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 8:51 pm

I'm sure you experienced modders and gamers are tired of this question cropping up again, but after reading the massive amount of literature available on modding I'm still stuck in the same rut.

I recently installed both Oblivion and the Shivering Isles on my Windows 7 64-bit computer. Oblivion was a bit dodgy to start with (for some reason it kept crashing when I fast travelled to Cheydinal on a Dark Brotherhood quest) but has settled down now, and Shivering Isles installed without a hitch.

However, I downloaded the OOO mod, hearing it was a good one, and after trying to extract it to my Oblivion data file, it whined at me, saying "it is not a supported archive."

In this scenario would the OBMM or Wyre Bash programme help?

Thanks in advance, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best to ensure vanilla Oblivion is installed and running correctly before adding mods.

Read the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1099204-relz-oscuros-oblivion-overhaul-133/page__hl__OOO for latest versions, installation advice, etc

In this scenario would the OBMM or Wyre Bash programme help?

Manual installation is not generally advised. Both these utilities are worth learning about and installing. See http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=preparing_for_mods for more info on these issues... and pretty much everything else you need to know.

Thanks for the advice. I've had a read through those guides and I'll download Wyre Bash after work. I should think the source of my problem is using the wrong programme to extract it: simply downloading 7-zip will probably fix it.

Wrye Bash and Bain installation is the way to go.

I certainly consider 7-zip a must have program if you are downloading mods.
